The Colorado Plateau structural province features long monoclinal flexures between uplifts and basins that are the major lines of deformation within and marginal to the Plateau. These folds are named, well-known, and have been described as part of several previous tectonic syntheses of the Colorado Plateau (Kelley, 1955; Davis, 1978; 1999). However, no digital data have ever been created that locate these folds in digital map space. This digital dataset compiles mapped locations of monoclinal folds from several geologic maps from the Colorado Plateau, most released only in “paper”, non-vector format. Fold names and their general map trace were guided by regional-scale maps that synthesize the tectonic elements of...

This part of DS 781 presents data for the folds for the geologic and geomorphic map of the Offshore Aptos map area, California. The vector data file is included in "Folds_OffshoreAptos.zip," which is accessible from https://doi.org/10.5066/F7K35RQB. These data accompany the pamphlet and map sheets of Cochrane, G.R., Johnson, S.Y., Dartnell, P., Greene, H.G., Erdey, M.D, Dieter, B.E., Golden, N.E., Hartwell, S.R., Ritchie, A.C., Kvitek, r.G., Maier, K.L., Endris, C.A., Davenport, C.W., Watt, J.T., Sliter, R.W., Finlayson, D.P., and Krigsman, L.M., (G.R. The geologic map database of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park region of Tennessee and North Carolina is a result from studies from 1993 to 2003 as part of a cooperative investigation by the U.S. Geological Survey with the National Park Service (NPS). This work resulted in a 1:100,000-scale geologic map derived from mapping that was conducted at scales of 1:24,000 and 1:62,500. The geologic data are intended to support cooperative investigations with the NPS, the development of a new soil map by the Natural Resources Conservation Service, and the All Taxa Biodiversity Inventory. In response to a request by the NPS, we mapped previously unstudied areas, revised the geology where problems existed, and developed...

Regional geologic investigations show that all the metamorphosed crystalline rocks underlying the Greenville 1 degree x 2 degree quadrangle are allochthonous. Seismic-reflection studies, the COCORP line (Cook and others, 1979), and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) seismic lines (Harris and Bayer, 1979; Harris and others, 1981) present seismic profiles across different parts of the southern Appalachians. Recent geophysical studies for the now discontinued Appalachian Ultradeep Core Hole (ADCOH) project were concentrated in the Greenville quadrangle (Hatcher and others, 1988). The ADCOH seismic-reflection profiles tie in with the COCORP profile of Cook and others (1979), providing a three-dimensional view of the...

This part of DS 781 presents fold data for the geologic and geomorphic map of the Monterey Canyon and Vicinity map area, California. The vector data file is included in "Folds_MontereyCanyon.zip," which is accessible from http://pubs.usgs.gov/ds/781/MontereyCanyon/data_catalog_MontereyCanyon.html. These data accompany the pamphlet and map sheets of Dartnell, P., Maier, K.L., Erdey, M.D., Dieter, B.E., Golden, N.E., Johnson, S.Y., Hartwell, S.R., Cochrane, G.R., Ritchie, A.C., Finlayson, D.P., Kvitek, R.G., Sliter, R.W., Greene, H.G., Davenport, C.W., Endris, C.A., and Krigsman, L.M. The 1:100,000-scale geologic map database of the South Boston 30' × 60' quadrangle, Virginia and North Carolina, provides geologic information for the Piedmont along the I-85 and U.S. Route 58 corridors and in the Roanoke River watershed, which includes the John H. Kerr Reservoir and Lake Gaston. The Raleigh terrane (located on the eastern side of the map) contains Neoproterozoic to early Paleozoic(?) polydeformed, amphibolite-facies gneisses and schists. The Carolina slate belt of the Carolina terrane (located in the central part of the map) contains Neoproterozoic metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks at greenschist facies. Although locally complicated, the slate-belt structure mapped across the South Boston...

This part of DS 781 presents data for the folds of the Point Sur to Point Arguello, California, region. The vector data file is included in the “Folds_PointSurToPointArguello.zip,” which is accessible from https://doi.org/10.5066/P97CZ0T7. Folds in the Point Sur to Point Arguello region are identified on seismic-reflection data based on warping and tilting of reflections. Folds were primarily mapped by interpretation of seismic reflection profile data collected by the U.S. Geological Survey between 2008 and 2014 and interpretation of high-resolution bathymetry data.

This Geologic Map Schema (GeMS) database contains all the geologic map information used to publish the Preliminary Bedrock Geologic Map of the Blythe 30' x 60' Quadrangle, California and Arizona, U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 2021-1097. The Blythe 30' x 60' quadrangle in southeastern California and southwestern Arizona displays complex geology that includes Mesozoic contractional deformation, metamorphism, and magmatism and Cenozoic extensional deformation and magmatism. The scope of the present map is limited to bedrock units of Miocene and older age because the younger deposits have not been mapped in sufficient detail across the quadrangle to support a systematic compilation. This geologic map database...
