Remote sensing technologies, such as high-resolution sonar, can be used to collect more detailed information about the benthic characteristics of macro habitats in the Illinois River. Multibeam echosounders collect multibeam and sidescan simultaneously, providing high-resolution images of the riverbed. Sidescan images, in raster format, show the recorded intensity of acoustic signal returns from the riverbed. The acoustic data were collected from the East Pit of the Hanson Pits (where accessible) of the Marseilles reach June 27, 2018, and August 25, 2020.

Hydroacoustic (sonar) data were collected for the Mississippi, St. Croix, and Minnesota Rivers for the development of high-resolution bathymetry and sidescan imagery. Combining these data in a GIS can provide key components to characterizing physical benthic habitat for native mussels in a riverine environment. These information needs were highly desired by the National Park Service to more accurately assess environmental factors that influence native mussel distribution. The collaborative effort was funded by the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR) Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund (ENRTF), to help maintain and enhance Minnesota’s environment and natural resources.

Hydroacoustic (sonar) data were collected for the Mississippi, St. Croix, and Minnesota Rivers for the development of high-resolution bathymetry and sidescan imagery. Small areas containing priority mussel habitat had additional collection efforts to map water velocities and bottom composition. Combining these data in a GIS can provide key components to characterizing physical benthic habitat for native mussels in a riverine environment. This information is highly desired by the National Park Service to more accurately assess environmental factors that influence native mussel distribution. The collaborative effort was funded by the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR) Environment and Natural...
Egg mat retention trials were conducted with walleye (Stizostedion vitreum) and lake whitefish (Coregonus clupeaformis) eggs in an experimental flume tank, seeded directly on egg mats (test retention efficiency) and hand dispersed in flowing flume water to simulate spawning over egg mats (test capture efficiency) with and without alternate substrate. In the field study, we measured number of eggs collected on mats and with bottom drift nets in the Detroit River to compare capture effectiveness. The field collection data describe the number, date of collection, and exact collection location of target species (walleye and lake whitefish). The flume trial data include number of eggs retained or collected, water velocity,...
This dataset is a combination of annual Probability of Streamflow Permanence (PROSPER) predictions, Northwest Stream Temperature (NorWeST) predictions of monthly mean stream temperatures for August of each year, and predicted monthly streamflow discharge for stream reaches in the Pacific Northwest from the USGS database of natural monthly streamflow estimates, U.S., 2004-2015. The PROSPER model provides predictions of the annual probability of a 30-meter stream segment maintaining year-round streamflow. The NorWeST model provides annual predictions of monthly mean stream temperature for August for 1-kilometer stream segments. Finally, predictions of natural monthly streamflow were combined with NorWeST and PROSPER...

Clean water is important for a variety of uses, including drinking, recreation, and as habitat for aquatic species. Nonpoint-source pollution, such as nutrients, sediment, and pesticides from agricultural runoff, is a major cause of impaired water quality in the United States . Vegetation and soil in natural land cover help to remove pollutants from runoff water before it reaches streams and other waterways by slowing water flow and physically trapping sediment. To assess the spatial distribution of water purification potential in the southeastern United States, we mapped the demand for purification as the total area of agricultural land and the supply of natural land cover in the flowpath over which water moves...

This dataset contains spatial datasets of topographic and bathymetric survey data in addition to data table the shapefile data collected at the 3 focal areas of research included in the Sustainable Rivers Program (SRP) in the Allegheny River that were collected and processed in collaboration with US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). The dataset is a combination of terrestrial topographic and bathymetry data measured by Trimble R10 Model 2 GNSS survey equipment or a FlowTracker2 Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter (ADV). The FlowTracker2 was used for flow measurements and water depth and spatial location of each flow measurement point were used to calculate river bottom bathymetry at those locations. Additionally, National...

This data release includes a file geodatabase with high-resolution geospatial products that illustrate the geomorphology and various land-surface parameters along a 313-kilometer segment of the mainstem Klamath River corridor downstream of Iron Gate Dam, CA. The geospatial products were derived from topobathymetric elevation data collected to document baseline topography and bathymetry before the removal of four hydro-electric dams. The elevation survey included aerial lidar, using an integrated topobathymetric sensor (with near-infrared and green wavelengths), and boat-based sonar measurements of water depths. Acquisition dates for the aerial topobathymetric lidar spanned 06/01/2018 to 06/14/2018. For the bathymetric...

Annual assessment of nesting populations of geese on the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta (YKD) provides information for biologists, participants in cooperative goose management plans, and Pacific Flyway technical committees. A ground-based sampling procedure has been used since 1986 to estimate the number of total nests, active nests, and eggs for cackling geese, emperor geese, greater white-fronted geese, and spectacled eiders. Annual information on the size of the nesting population and potential number of young produced contributes long term data needed to understand goose and eider population ecology and better manage these species. The survey has been the primary method of measuring recovery status for the western population...

This GeoPackage contains the analysis strata (“YKG_AnalysisStrata”) used in calculating population indices for geese, swans, and cranes. This layer was created from the file (“YKD_DesignStrata”) when the existing rotating panel design was developed in 1999. This layer was originally created as an ArcInfo coverage, saved to a shapefile, and imported to SQLite Database format.

This dataset contains environmental DNA (eDNA) concentrations and spawning adult abundances for sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka) in Hansen Creek, a small tributary in the Wood River watershed, southeast Alaska, USA. We took temporally- and spatially-replicated eDNA samples during the spawning period (mid-July through August), along with fish counts (live, naturally dead, and killed), dissolved oxygen (DO), discharge, and temperature data at each time of sampling. Samples were collected at each site before adults entered the stream, and then continued to be collected daily or every other day for the next three weeks.

This data release includes both a tabular data set and a zipped file of images. The tabular data set consists of measurements of annuli widths from Walleye dorsal spine thin sections. Walleye spines were sampled non-lethally from fish that were selected for acoustic telemetry tag implantation in several interrelated investigations. The telemetry work was coordinated through the Great Lakes Acoustic Telemetry Observation System (GLATOS, https://glatos.glos.us/). Measurements were obtained from digital images of spine thin sections within the zipped file provided, and can be used to understand the age and growth characteristics of tagged Walleye. These data can be cross-referenced with biological and tagging data...
