This dataset includes the audio-magnetotelluric (AMT) sounding data collected in 2009 in and near the San Luis Basin, New Mexico. The U.S. Geological Survey conducted a series of multidisciplinary studies, including AMT surveys, in the San Luis Basin to improve understanding of the hydrogeology of the Santa Fe Group and the nature of the sedimentary deposits comprising the principal groundwater aquifers of the Rio Grande rift. The shallow unconfined and the deeper confined Santa Fe Group aquifers in the San Luis Basin are the main sources of municipal water for the region. The population of the San Luis Basin region is growing rapidly and water shortfalls could have serious consequences. Future growth and land management...

The Edwards and Trinity aquifers are major sources of water for agriculture, industry, and urban and rural communities in south-central Texas. Both the Edwards and Trinity aquifers are classified as major aquifers by the State of Texas. The dissolution of the carbonate rocks composing the Edwards and Trinity aquifers results in distinctive landforms rich in both springs and karst features (caves, sinkholes, and other visible areas of solution-enlarged porosity). Previous studies such as those by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the Texas Bureau of Economic Geology (BEG) have mapped the geology, hydrostratigraphy, and structure in these areas at various scales. The purpose of this data release is to present...

Rapid population growth and declining annual recharge to aquifers in the upper Santa Cruz basin area of southern Arizona, has increased the demand for additional groundwater resources. This demand is predicted to escalate in the future due to higher temperatures, longer droughts, less aquifer recharge, and decreased river and stream base flow. We conducted geologic studies to help evaluate and better understand groundwater resources in the basin. Results of these studies are presented in this report, which summarizes the basin geologic framework and hydrogeology, and presents a 3-D hydrogeologic model for the Rio Rico and Nogales 7.5' quadrangles. Three major hydrogeologic units are displayed in the 3-D model; a...
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) entered into a cooperative study with the California Department of Water Resources and the Ramona Band of Cahuilla to characterize the hydrogeology of the Cahuilla Valley and Terwilliger Valley groundwater basins and surrounding water-bearing units, with the ultimate goal of developing a calibrated integrated hydrologic model to manage the groundwater supplies on a sustainable basis. A three-dimensional geologic framework model (GFM) was developed to quantify the structural geometry and distribution of water-bearing units in the groundwater basins, using borehole lithology and hydraulic information, geologic maps, and gravity-derived depth-to-basement information. This dataset includes...
