The Geologic Map Index of Alaska (Map Index) is an online, interactive web mapping application that provides access to an actively growing geographic index of geology-related maps of Alaska and adjacent areas. This online research tool provides the locations and outlines of most DGGS and U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) geologic and geophysical maps of Alaska in a single, interactive web map. It allows searches of the map database by geographic area of interest, keywords, themes, publishing agency, dates, and other criteria. The search results provide links to DGGS's comprehensive, multi-agency publications database, where users may view and download publications for free. No other geographic index of Alaska geologic...
During 2009, the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys continued a program, begun in 2006, of reconnaissance mapping of surficial geology in the proposed natural-gas pipeline corridor through the upper Tanana River valley. The study area is a 12-mi-wide (19.3-km-wide) area that straddles the Alaska Highway from the western boundaries of the Tanacross B-3 and A-3 quadrangles near Tetlin Junction eastward to the eastern boundaries of the Nabesna D-1 and C-1 quadrangles along the Canada border. Mapping during 2008-2009 in the Tanacross and Nabesna quadrangles linked with the mapping completed in the Tanacross, Big Delta and Mt. Hayes quadrangles in 2006-2008. Surficial geology was initially mapped in...

The geologic map described in this study covers the Horse Mesa Dam Quadrangle (1:24,000) (Figure 1) (Sheets I-III). The area encompasses part of the northern Superstition Mountains and southern Mazatzal Mountains. Bedrock in this area consists largely of Proterozoic granitic and metamorphic rocks overlain by a thick sequence of early Miocene volcanic rocks. The study in one of a series of related geologic maps from the Arizona Geological Survey that cover the Superstition volcanic field and adjacent areas (Ferguson and Gilbert, 1997; Ferguson and Skotnicki, 1995; Skotnicki and Ferguson, 1995, 1996; Skotnicki and Leighty, 1997; Spencer and Richard, 1995). The rugged physiography of the area is dominated by drainages...

The Sawtooth Mountains are a small (45 km2 ), low-relief (250 m), yet rugged range composed of essentially flat-lying, Mid-Tertiary volcanic rocks. Along with the West Silver Bell Mountains, which consist mostly of Middle Proterozoic granitic rocks, the ranges form the southwestern boundary ofthe Picacho basin, a major north-trending, approximately 20 km-wide, 3 l<m-deep basin in the Basin and Range structural province of southern Arizona. Access on paved roads is possible from Interstate 10, taking Sunland Gin Road about 20 km south to within few kilometers ofthe Sawtooth Mountains. From this point, four-wheel drive vehicles are required to negotiate the crossings of sandy washes on all roads that lead into the...

The Systematic mapping of lava flow units in the Tharsis region has been compiled into a series of 16 maps at 1:2,000,000 scale. This work provides information on the sources and areal extent of the lava flows, on their eruptive sequences and relative ages, and on relations between the flows and geologic structure in the largest, most active tectonic and volcanic province on Mars. Some of the maps were made from controlled Viking photomosaics published as quarter quadrangles in the Atlas of Mars Topographic Series (U.S. Geological Survey, 1979) and tied to the Viking control net. Where these photomosaics were not available, larger scale catalog photomosaics tied to the Mariner 9 control net were used. These maps...
The surface of the Moon is heterogenous. Local surfaces can be classed on the basis of telescopic observations into units, each having a limited range of physical properties such as topograhpy, visible under low illumination. The properties of such surface units are considered to represent properties of under lying materials, so that the surface units corespond to underlying rock units which are analogous to the rock-stratigraphic formations of terrestrial geology. These rock units are arranged in order of relative age and grouped into time stratigraphic units by application of the concepts of superpositon and intersection, and by their apparent modification of properties with time. Following terrestrial convection,...
The Preliminary Interpretive Report 2004-3B, "Bedrock geologic map of the Livengood SW C-3 and SE C-4 quadrangles, Tolovana mining district, Alaska," is the bedrock geologic map of an approximately 123-square-mile area in the central Livengood Quadrangle, Alaska.
This report provides detailed (1:63,360-scale) mapping of the Tanana A-1 and A-2 quadrangles (500 square miles; equivalent to eight 7.5-minute quadrangles). The area is part of the Manley Hot Springs-Tofty mining districts and adjacent to the Rampart mining district to the south of the Tanana B-1 Quadrangle. This report includes detailed bedrock, surficial, structural, and stratigraphic data. Based on the resulting geologic maps, field investigations, and laboratory materials analyses, the report also includes derivative maps of geologic construction materials and geologic hazards. The Tanana A-1 and A-2 Quadrangles and surrounding area comprise several isolated mountainous ridges in the western Yukon-Tanana Upland...
