Airborne geophysical surveys were conducted in the eastern Adirondacks from Dec. 7, 2015 - Dec. 21, 2015, by Goldak Airborne Surveys. The area was flown along a draped surface with a nominal survey height above ground of 200 meters. The flight line spacing was 250 meters for traverse lines and 2500 meters for control lines. Here we present downloadable magnetic and radiometric (gamma spectrometry) data from those surveys as image (Geotiff) and flight line data (csv format). Background The Eastern Adirondacks region was known for iron mining in the 1800's and 1900's but it also contains deposits of rare earth minerals. Rare earth minerals are used in advanced technology such as in cell phones, rechargeable batteries...

This data release includes 40Ar/39Ar data from the U.S. Geological Survey for samples from Old Mine Park Area, Trumbull, Connecticut. Mineral samples were collected by Robert Wintsch and Harold Moritz. Potassium-bearing mineral grains were separated from the bulk sample and analyzed by argon geochronology at the U.S. Geological Survey Bascom ARgon Dating (BARD) Laboratory in Reston, Virginia. The data provide age constraints on units in the relevant geologic mapping area.

These geologic and topographic maps show a basin in the Elysium region of Mars that is thought to have been the site of a large paleolake during the most recent period (Amazonian) in Mars' history (Scott and Chapman, 1991b). The basin, referred to as the Elysium basin, extends for more than 2,000 km across the lowland plains. It is important, not only geologically, but because the amount, location, and duration of liquid water that it may have contained would have been critical factors governing the possible origin and survival of life on Mars.

The geology for this map was compiled using Viking Orbiter images on 1:500,000- scale photomosaics of the Mars Transverse Mercator quadrangles -40262, -40267, and -40272. This map represents a detailed extension of regional geologic mapping of the east Hellas rim (Crown and others 1990, 1992) and is published at 1:1,000,000 scale. The map area is on the east rim of one of the largest impact structures in the Solar System, the ~2,000-km-diameter Hellas basin (fig. 1). Channeled plains, with Dao, Harmakhis, and Reull Valles as the primary drainage features, dominate much of the surface within the map area. Dao Vallis is the downstream extension of Niger Vallis, which originates on the south flank of Hadriaca Patera,...

Annual summaries of mineral extraction and exploration activities in Idaho and factors impacting these activities. Published and unpublished content. In 1975 Idaho Geological Survey, then named Idaho Bureau of Mines and Geology, began compiling annual summaries for use by U.S. Bureau of Mines and U.S. Geological Survey annual reports after dissolution of the office of the Idaho State Inspector of Mines in 1974. These state data resources are generally more rich in content and context than federal summaries. As part of an ongoing project funded in part by U.S. Geological Survey and Idaho Department of Lands, data from these documents are being geo-related within the Idaho Geological Survey's Database of Mines and...

Line data (EAdirondacksSpec.csv) are presented as comma separated values with the following definitions (see technical report for details): LINE: Flight line number DATE: YYYY/MM/DD TIME: Time (UTM, 24-hour) hh:mm:ss LONG: Longitude, WGS84 (degrees) LAT:...

This data release provides the locations and certain key metrics of landslide features offshore southern California, including landslide perimeters, scarps, evacuation zones, debris aprons, and slide-prone areas in geographic information system (GIS) shapefile format. The offshore region of southern California is a tectonically active area that includes more than 20 fault-bounded basins and ridges that are subject to various types of mass-wasting and landslide processes. The collection of high-resolution seafloor mapping data offshore southern California, mostly within the last 25 years, provide a new data set that forms the basis for the identification and mapping of landslides and slide-related features throughout...
The surface of the Moon is heterogeneous. Surface materials are classed on the basis of telescopic observations into units, each having a limited range of topographic and other physical such as albedo, the reflectivity under full-Moon illumination. Such units are considered analogous to the rock-stratigraphic formations of terrestrial geology. By application of the principals of superposition and intersection, these rock units are arranged in order of relative age and grouped into time-stratigraphic units. Following terrestrial convention, the major time-stratigraphic units are designated systems, and their subdivision series; corresponding to these units are periods and epochs of time, respectively (Shoemaker,...

A comprehensive map of Quaternary faults has been generated for offshore of California. The Quaternary fault map includes mapped geometries and attribute information for offshore fault systems located in California State and Federal waters. The polyline shapefile and matching KML file have been compiled from previously published mapping where relatively dense, high-resolution marine geophysical data exist. The data are accompanied by a PDF containing citations for the compiled source data. Most of the marine geophysical data used for mapping have been processed, merged, and released by the USGS in maps, data releases, and journal publications in support of the California Seafloor Mapping Program and the U.S. West...

This part of DS 781 presents data for the geologic and geomorphic map of the Offshore Santa Cruz map area, California. The vector data file is included in "Geology_OffshoreSantaCruz.zip," which is accessible from https://doi.org/10.5066/F7TM785G. These data accompany the pamphlet and map sheets of Cochrane, G.R., Dartnell, P., Johnson, S.Y., Erdey, M.D., Golden, N.E., Greene, H.G., Dieter, B.E., Hartwell, S.R., Ritchie, A.C., Finlayson, D.P., Endris, C.A., Watt, J.T., Davenport, C.W., Sliter, R.W., Maier, K.L., and Krigsman, L.M. (G.R. Cochrane and S.A. Cochran, eds.), 2016, California State Waters Map Series—Offshore of Santa Cruz, California: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 2016-1024, pamphlet 40 p., 10...
The Oregon Geologic Data Compilation (OGDC) is a digital data collection of geologic studies created by the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI).
The surface of the Moon is heterogeneous both on a regional and a fine scale. The geologic mapping of this surface is similar in principle to the geologic mapping of the Earth's surface and depends on the discrimination of similarities and differences between materials and features at different points on the surface. Differences from area to area in characteristic topographic forms and in such physical properties as albedo indicate that the areas are underlain by materials of different nature and have formed under different processes. The units shown on the map are analogous to stratigraphic units adopted for mapping terrestrial geology in that they are bodies of rock with a limited range of properties and age and...
