Geomorphic features mapped from historical aerial photographs (1935, 1950s, 1970s, and 1996), satellite imagery (November 2006), and digital aerial imagery (Standard Imagery LiDAR Composite; Spectrum Mapping, LLC, 2005) are provided in shapefiles for each year of data. Features mapped are tops of the arroyo walls, edges of the arroyo bottom (covering the active floodplain and channel), tops of channel banks, the channel centerline, canopy cover, and 2006 flood sand deposits. In addition, shapefiles containing a reference arroyo centerline, points at 0.5-km intervals along the arroyo centerline, and polygons identifying the 0.5-km arroyo segments are provided. A long-term study of the geomorphic history of the lower Rio Puerco arroyo in north-central New Mexico included the collection of high-precision (Real-time kinematic) GPS survey data (2002, 2007, 2010, and 2014), registration and rectification of historical aerial photographs (1935, 1950s, 1970s, and 1996), an aerial LiDAR survey (2005) with collection of digital imagery, and acquisition of post-flood (2006) satellite imagery. The Rio Puerco is a single-thread, meandering stream inset within an arroyo located in semiarid north-central New Mexico. These data were used to investigate the effects of age, height above, and distance from the channel on mortality of male and female trees of plains cottonwood (Populus deltoides subsp. monilifera) as described in the Friedman and Griffin (2017) report. The Siletz River Basin encompasses 970 square kilometers of western Oregon and drains to the Pacific Ocean. In cooperation with the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians of Oregon (CTSI), the U.S. Geological Survey is evaluating how streamflow and bedload sediment conditions may influence mainstem spawning habitats for spring Chinook Salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytschya) and Pacific Lamprey (Entosphenus tridentatus). This study encompasses approximately 105 kilometers of the Siletz River, including bedrock and alluvial reaches, between Elk Creek and the Pacific Ocean. One of the largest hydraulic mines (1.6 km2) is located in California’s Sierra Nevada within the Humbug Creek watershed and Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park (MDSHP). MDSHP’s denuded and dissected landscape is composed of weathered Eocene auriferous sediments susceptible to chronic rill and gully erosion whereas block failures and debris flows occur in more cohesive terrain. This data release includes a 2014 digital elevation model (DEM), a study area boundary, and a geomorphic map. The 2014 DEM was derived from an available aerial LiDAR dataset collected in 2014 by the California Department of Conservation.
