This is a coverage of the Colorado Plateau coal assessment study area. The study area outline was drawn on the county lines that most closely outline the coal-bearing rocks in the Colorado Plateau Region. The county outlines originate from a national coverage for which lines were extracted from U.S. Census 1990 TIGER/line files using an AML program written by Nebert, D., and Negri, M., USGS-Water Resources Division (WRD), running on two Data General 6220 servers.

This is an Arc/Info coverage showing the general elevation of the top of the Herrin (No. 6) coal in Illinois. These 100-foot isolines were contoured by Earthvision software using more than 22,000 data points. The data was not contoured using fault lines for control and no manual adjustments were made to the contours to reflect the presence of known faults. Limited data were available in the north central and central portions of the state. This data set is intended for use at a scale of 1:750,000.

Outlines of areas mined for the Springfield coal in Illinois as of January 1, 1996. This information was extracted from detailed coal mine data stored in the ISGS Coal Section library database. Lines delineate the approximate outer boundary of individual mines (if known) or general mined areas. Interior mine boundaries such as pillars or small blocks of unmined coal are commonly not depicted. Outlines have been compiled from a variety of sources. Outlines of areas mined before 1987 are commonly from source maps at scales of 1:62,500 or smaller. This dataset represents soils of Wyoming at 1:100,000- scale. The layer contains 350 separate soils descriptions across 23 Wyoming counties. The layer was compiled based on the five-factor soil forming model using digital surficial geology, bedrock geology, and elevation. This dataset will be more fully documented in 23 AES publications scheduled for completion in winter of 99/00. These publications will use the designation AES Bulletin B-1071 followed by a two letter abreviation for each county.

This dataset contains geochemical data for unconsolidated sediments (stream sediments, lake sediments, etc.) collected by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) personnel and analyzed in the analytical laboratories of the Geologic Division of the USGS. These data represent analyses of sediment samples collected in support of various USGS programs. The data were originally entered into the in-house Rock Analysis Storage System (RASS) database which was used by the Geologic Division from the early-1970's through the late-1980's to archive geochemical data. An unpublished CD-ROM was developed in 1996 that contains the RASS data in GSSEARCH format. That CD was used to generate this data set.

This map describes the possible hazard from earthquake-induced landslides for the city of Berkeley, CA. The hazard depicted by this map was modeled for a scenario corresponding to an M=7.1 earthquake on the Hayward, CA fault. This scenario magnitude is associated with complete rupture of the northern and southern segments of the Hayward fault, an event that has an estimated return period of about 500 years. The modeled hazard also corresponds to completely saturated ground-water conditions resulting from an extreme storm event or series of storm events. This map layer includes sand and gravel operations in the United States. These data were obtained from information reported voluntarily to the USGS by the aggregate producing companies. The data represent commodities covered by the Minerals Information Team (MIT) of the U.S. Geological Survey, and the operations are those considered active in 2002 with production greater than 50,000 tons, which are non-government, non-portable, and surveyed by the MIT. This is a replacement for the January 2001 map layer.
