In March 2015, the U.S. Geological Survey acquired seismic reflection and refraction data along an approximately 2.8-km-long profile across northwest-trending San Andreas Fault splays located at the Dos Palmas Preserve east of Salton Sea. To acquire the reflection and refraction data, we collocated shots and geophones, spaced every 3 m along the profile. We used 933 SercelTM L40A P-wave (40-Hz vertical-component) geophones with a sensitivity of 22.34 volts/meter/second to record 925 P-wave shots. We generated P-wave data using one of two active sources: 400-grain Betsy-SeisgunTM shots at approximately every 90 m and a 3.5-kg sledgehammer and steel plate combination at every 3 m between the seisgun shots. Groundwater residence times were simulated for the major regional aquifers of the Northern Atlantic Coastal Plain aquifer system from New York to North Carolina using particle tracking in a regional groundwater flow model. Millions of particles were distributed throughout the aquifers of the North Atlantic Coastal Plain in a MODFLOW model with a volume-weighted algorithm, then tracked backwards using MODPATH6 (Pollock, 2012) until termination of their paths at their sources of origin, usually the simulated water table. To determine aquifer characteristics, pneumatic slug tests were performed on selected zones and aquifers at a monitoring site near the North and South Belridge oil fields in the Southern San Joaquin Valley in Kern County. On November 19th and 20th, 2018, pneumatic slug tests were performed at five monitoring wells located at the multiple-well groundwater-monitoring site BWSD (28S/21E-08M1 through –M5) near Lost Hills, CA in the Southern San Joaquin Valley. A three-dimensional hydrogeologic framework model (3D HFM) of the westernmost western Snake River Plain (WSRP) aquifer system was prepared to represent the subsurface distribution and thickness of four hydrogeologic units. The primary source of data for the 3D HFM was lithologic data from a total of 291 well-driller reports. These data were then processed using Rockware Rockworks17 three-dimensional modeling software. This dataset consists of five comma-delineated CSV files containing well information: location, lithology, well construction, aquifer, and comments. It is one of three related datasets.

These systems are susceptible to contamination due to the inherent connectivity between surface water and groundwater systems in karst systems. This dataset contains field measurements of temperature in shallow vertical profiles beneath a lake-bottom in the vicinity of a permeable reactive barrier (PRB) at Ashumet Pond, Falmouth, MA. From August 21, 2015 – September 3, 2015 vertical temperature profilers designed to quantify groundwater upwelling dynamics were installed at seven locations. Short-term aquifer tests were conducted to estimate hydraulic properties in an alluvial aquifer. Tests included eight single-hole pumping and recovery tests and three slug tests (in a single well). These investigations were conducted in the Wet Mountain Valley, in Custer and Fremont Counties, Colorado. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) conducted aquifer tests in May, 2019. This data release consists of 1,984 line-kilometers of airborne electromagnetic (AEM), magnetic data and radiometric data collected from October to November 2017 in the upper East River and surrounding watersheds in central Colorado. This dataset contains field measurements of direct groundwater seepage by using half-barrel style seepage meters permanently installed in a lake-bottom permeable reactive barrier (PRB) at Ashumet Pond, Falmouth, MA. The meters are a modified version of a standard half-barrel seepage meter. Each meter consists of a 208-L polyethylene, corrosion-inhibiting drum cut to a length of 0.8 m and fitted with a removable 0.56-m-diameter lid. A 1.3-cm-diameter hole was drilled into each lid to allow outflow or inflow to be measured. Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) is a trace atmospheric gas that is primarily of anthropogenic origin but also occurs naturally in fluid inclusions in some minerals and igneous rocks, and in some volcanic and igneous fluids. SF6 has been used as a dating tool of groundwater because atmospheric concentrations of SF6 are expected to continue increasing (Busenberg and Plummer, 1997). SF6 samples were collected in 30 wells in New Hanover County, North Carolina in May 2017. The Little Sequatchie River and Pryor Cove Creek watersheds are located in southern Tennessee and drain the eastern escarpment of the Cumberland Plateau to the Sequatchie River. The Little Sequatchie River has the largest drainage area of any Sequatchie River tributary, with over 130 square miles in the topographic confines of the watershed. This dataset contains 50-ft contours for the Hot Springs shallowest unit of the Ouachita Mountains aquifer system potentiometric-surface map. The potentiometric-surface shows altitude at which the water level would have risen in tightly-cased wells and represents synoptic conditions during the summer of 2017. The heat-pulse flowmeter (HH) used in this testing is a KVA Model 200 system. The instrument computes groundwater vectors from heat arrival and decay in an array of four thermistors that surround a single heat source. An external compass attached to the top of the deployment system is used to orient the flowmeter in the borehole. The HH measured groundwater velocity and flow in the x-y plane. Fuzzy packers were filled with 0.08-inch diameter glass beads for all tests. The HH thermistors were centered over the simulated fracture during measurements. One to four measurements were made with the HH for each simulated flow.

The colloidal borescope flowmeter (HB) used in this testing was developed by AquaVISION, Llc. The instrument employs a charge-coupled device camera, an optical magnification lens (140x), and a light-emitting diode (LED) illumination source to visually track neutrally buoyant colloids (approximately 1-5 microns) moving horizontally through the borehole. The device measured groundwater velocity and flow direction in the x-y (horizontal) plane. Geochemical data were obtained to investigate the fate and transport of nitrogen in a subterranean estuary near East Falmouth, Massachusetts. The goal of this investigation was to assess nitrogen attenuation in the aquifer under the Eel River Estuary and the adjacent peninsula that was densely populated with residences having septic systems and legacy cesspool inputs of inorganic nitrogen. This estuary is one of many small embayments on Cape Cod where nutrient enrichment can lead to eutrophication and is a major concern for water-quality impairment.
