The San Juan Bay Estuary, Puerto Rico, contains mangrove forests that store significant amounts of organic carbon in soils and biomass. There is a strong urbanization gradient across the estuary, from the highly urbanized and clogged Caño Martin Peña in the western part of the estuary, a series of lagoons in the center of the estuary, and a tropical forest reserve (Piñones) in the easternmost part with limited urbanization. We collected sediment cores to determine carbon burial rates and vertical sediment accretion from five sites in the San Juan Bay Estuary. In 2013, a large blinded, paired placebo-controlled field trial for the prairie dog oral sylvatic plague vaccine started in the Western US. On 17 paired plots, vaccine and placebo plots, small rodents were trapped annually for 3-5 consecutive nights (when weather allowed). Up on capture, we documented the trap numbers and the processed animals. We noted standard biological information (species, sex, age) and took samples (fleas, blood, hair and whiskers). When logistics allowed we also trapped diurnal animals. Hair and whisker samples were taped to a transparent sheet and scored for the presence (high dose 1, low dose 2) or absence (0) of Rhodamine B fluorescence (RB dataset)

This dataset provides a watershed index of surface drinking water importance, a watershed index of forest importance to surface drinking water, and a watershed index to highlight the extent to which development, fire, and insects and disease threaten forests important for surface drinking water. This symbology for this layer is based on the index value for insect and disease threat to forests which are important to surface drinking water on a range from 1-100.

Arsenic (As) toxicity is a global environmental and health problem. There are both natural (eg volcanic activity) and anthropogenic sources of As (eg lead arsenate and copper arsenate were commonly used pesticides in the 1900’s). Aqueous levels of arsenic in the Klamath Basin (CA, OR), which has a volcanic origin, can exceed at some locations both the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality human health water quality criteria (2.1 ug/L) (Sturdevant, 2011) and the US EPA drinking water limit (10 ug/L) (US EPA., 2001). Data were collected using GPS radio collars on mares or tail transmitters braided into the tails of stallions, at a 2-hour fix rate for a period spanning 2016 to 2020. Horses were located at Conger Herd Management Area (HMA) or Frisco HMA in the Great Basin ecosystem of Utah, USA.

This dataset represents a potential indicator to be used in spatial analyses to assess riparian condition for the Southeastern United States. It is a table of values representing the square meters of each land cover type (NLCD 2016) present in the floodplain boundary (EPA enviroatlas 100 year) within NHDPlus medium resolution catchments identified by FEATUREID. In addition to square meters of land cover type, the percent of the total floodplain containing natural land cover (as determined by land cover classes 11, 12, 31, 41, 42, 43, 51, 52, 71, 72, 73, 74 90, and 95) and disturbed land cover (as determined by land cover class values 21, 22, 23, 24, 81, 82) is calculated.

Using nest records and locations to identify landscape-scale parameters (distance to coast, elevation, slope, and land cover) that provide potential nesting habitat, we produced a final map classifying 12% (70,411 km2) of the lands assessed as potential Kittlitz’s Murrelet nesting habitat with dense but distinct patches located in northern Alaska and a more uninterrupted, narrow band extended across coastal mountainous areas in the Pacific Coastal Mountains, Alaska Peninsula Mountains, and Aleutian Islands. The technology to recover natural gas depends on undisclosed types and amounts of toxic chemicals. A list of 944 products containing 632 chemicals used during natural gas operations was compiled. Literature searches were conducted to determine potential health effects of the 353 chemicals identified by Chemical Abstract Service (CAS) numbers. More than 75% of the chemicals could affect the skin, eyes, and other sensory organs, and the respiratory and gastrointestinal systems. Approximately 40-50% could affect the brain/nervous system, immune and cardiovascular systems, and the kidneys; 37% could affect the endocrine system; and 25% could cause cancer and mutations. This dataset was developed for the BLM-Rapid Ecoregional Assessment (REA) project for the Seward Peninsula - Nulato Hills - Kotzebue Sound Lowlands. This datasets represents the Change Agent, pests and disease, specifically identifiying beetle infestations. The information was collected, cooperatively by aerial surveys by both the USFS, Forest Health Protection (FHP) and ADNR, Div. of Forestry with beetle data clipped to the REA project boundary. The data represents a 10 year cumulative effect for 1989-2010.

2010 USDA Forest Service, Rocky Mountain Region Aerial Detection Survey Data. This data depicts the occurrence and location of forest insect, disease, and other biotic and abiotic causes of tree mortality and tree damage. Aerial survey data is collected by observing areas of tree damage or tree mortality from an aircraft and manually recording the information onto a map. Due to the nature of aerial surveys, this data will only provide rough estimates of location, intensity and the resulting trend information for agents detectable from the air. These geotiffs represent the raster GIS outputs of Linear Deconvolution (Linear Spectral Unmixing) analysis of ASTER image pixels covering various sand dune and sand sheet fields throughout the Western United States and Alaska. This particular dune field (DS-2) represents Big Dune, Nevada and the surrounding areas of alluvial fan sediments along the Amargosa River valley. The accompanying zip file contains linear deconvolution-derived mineral fractional abundance maps for a three-component mixture model of Quartz, Potassic Feldspars and "Andesitic Volcanic Glass", as well as RMS and residual errors.
