In cooperation with the South Carolina Department of Transportation, the U.S. Geological Survey prepared a geospatial raster dataset describing impervious surface in the SC StreamStats study area derived from the 30m resolution National Land Cover Dataset (NLCD) 2019. This layer, which covers the SC StreamStats study area, has been resampled from the source resolution to a scale of 30ft pixels and reprojected to the common projection of the other project data layers (SC State Plane NAD 1983 International Feet WKID 2273). It will be served as part of the SC StreamStats application (https://streamstats.usgs.gov) to describe delineated watersheds. The StreamStats application provides access to spatial analytical tools...

Contamination to aquatic resources from co-produced water (brine) associated with energy development has been documented in the northeastern portion of the Williston Basin; an area mantled by glacial drift. The presence and magnitude of brine contamination can be determined using the contamination index (CI) value from water samples. Recently, the U.S. Geological Survey published a section (~2.59 km2) level risk assessment of brine contamination to aquatic resources for Sheridan County, Montana, using oilfield and hydrogeological parameters. Our goal was to improve the Sheridan County assessment (SCA) and evaluate the use of this new Williston Basin assessment (WBA) across 31 counties mantled by glacial drift in...

The Great Dismal Swamp (the swamp) is a forested peatland in southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. Since early colonial times, timber harvesting and drainage through a network of ditches constructed to facilitate the harvesting have altered these ecosystems. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has managed the swamp as the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge since 1974 to restore its forest communities to those present in early colonial times. Part of the approach to forest restoration has been to "restore the hydrology." The report by Speiran and Wurster (2020) describes the hydrology and water quality across the swamp. Part of the data used to describe the hydrology and water quality of...

Greater sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus) are at the center of state and national land use policies largely because of their unique life-history traits as an ecological indicator for health of sagebrush ecosystems. These data represent an updated population trend analysis and Targeted Annual Warning System (TAWS) for state and federal land and wildlife managers to use best available science to help guide current management and conservation plans aimed at benefitting sage-grouse populations range-wide. This analysis relied on previously published population trend modeling methodology from Coates and others (2021, 2022) and includes population lek count data from 1960-2023. Bayesian state-space models estimated...

Sage-grouse continue to use habitat following wildfire, so prioritizing high selection, low survival areas can help ameliorate potential post-wildfire ecological traps. This shapefile represents areas within the burn scars at the Virginia Mountains field site which are high selection and high or low survival which have been deemed to be 'priority' targets for post-fire restoration efforts. The 'burn scar' used in this project is an amalgamation of multiple fires which occurred within the field site during the summers of 2016 and 2017.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has calculated over 25 different basin characteristics as part of preparing the West Virginia StreamStats 2021 application. These datasets are raster representations of various environmental, geological, and land use attributes within the West Virginia StreamStats 2021 study area and will be served in the West Virginia StreamStats 2021 application to describe delineated watersheds. The StreamStats application provides access to spatial analytical tools that are useful for water-resources planning and management, and for engineering and design purposes. The map-based user interface can be used to delineate drainage areas, get basin characteristics, and estimates of flow statistics...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), calculated several basin characteristics as part of the updated New Jersey StreamStats 2022 application (U.S. Geological Survey, 2022). These datasets are raster representations of various environmental, geological, and land use attributes within the New Jersey StreamStats 2022 study area; they are applied in the New Jersey 2022 application to describe delineated watersheds. This update features improvements in base elevation resolution from 10 meters to 10 feet and stream centerline hydrography from 1:24,000 to 1:2,400, as well as resampling of previously existing datasets to match the 10-foot resolution....
In cooperation with the South Carolina Department of Transportation, the U.S. Geological Survey calculated four land cover basin characteristics rasters as part of preparing the South Carolina StreamStats 2021 application. These datasets are raster representations of impervious surface, developed, forested, and storage land cover attributes within the South Carolina StreamStats 2021 study area, and will be served in the South Carolina StreamStats 2021 application to describe delineated watersheds. The StreamStats application provides access to spatial analytical tools that are useful for water-resources planning and management, and for engineering and design purposes. The map-based user interface can be used to...

This dataset is comprised of 3 .csv files related to the use of unmanned aerial systems over waterbird colonies. Specifically, data detail the disturbance observed in birds during flights, the time required for traditional ground surveys to be conducted, and the distance at which birds flush during traditional ground surveys.
