A revision to the hydrogeologic framework of the Virginia coastal plain southwest of the James River was developed by USGS during 2019-2021. This revision includes modifications to existing understanding of the groundwater system in Prince George, Surry, Sussex, Isle of Wight, and Southampton counties and the cities of Franklin and Suffolk in southeast Virginia. This USGS data release contains a csv file of interpreted borehole hydrogeologic-unit top-surface altitudes, a shapefile of the study area extent, a shapefile of faults within the study area, shapefiles of altitude contours for 12 hydrogeologic-unit top surfaces, shapefiles of hydrogeologic-unit margins for 10 hydrogeologic-units in the coastal plain of...

Digital hydrogeologic datasets were developed for the Rondout-Neversink study area in upstate New York in cooperation with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. These datasets define the hydrogeologic framework of the valley-fill aquifer and surrounding till-covered uplands within the study area. Datasets include: bedrock elevation raster, lacustrine silt and clay top and bottom elevation rasters, lidar minimum elevation raster, lacustrine extent polygon, valley-fill extent polygon, and surficial geology polygons. Elevation layers were interpolated at 125-foot discretization to match the model grid cell size.

A digital model of the sedimentary Northern Atlantic Coastal Plain aquifer system is composed of 20 rasters and hydrogeologic unit extent polygons. Rasters describe the top elevations of regional aquifers and confining units at a resolution of 2640 feet (1/2 mile). The rasters are clipped to the extent polygons, which represent the spatial extents of the hydrogeologic units onshore and several miles offshore. This three-dimensional hydrogeologic model was constructed as part of a U.S. Geological Survey Groundwater Resources Program study of groundwater availability in the Northern Atlantic Coastal Plain (NACP) aquifer system, including parts of New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina....

Note: this data release has been deprecated. Please see new data release here: https://doi.org/10.5066/P9PEFY11. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) undertook a 5-year study beginning in 2016 to assess groundwater availability for the aquifers proximal to the Gulf of Mexico from the Texas-Mexico border to the western part of the panhandle of Florida; these aquifers are collectively referred to as the coastal lowlands aquifer system. This study is one of several regional groundwater availability studies being done as part of the USGS Water Availability and Use Science Program. Groundwater from the coastal lowlands aquifer system is used mainly for public, irrigation, and industrial supply. Land-surface subsidence...

The Ozark Plateau aquifer system stretches across approximately 70,000 square miles (mi2) of Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma, and is composed of many hydrogeologic units, such as the Boone aquifer and the Roubidoux aquifer. However, this data release is focused on only 11,000 mi2 in northern Arkansas, southeastern Kansas, southwestern Missouri, and northeastern Oklahoma. The Boone aquifer covers approximately 10,700 mi2 of this area, and the Roubidoux aquifer covers the 11,000 mi2 area entirely. These aquifers are mostly made of Mississippian-aged and Ordovician-aged carbonate rock, and serve as the main sources of fresh groundwater in northeastern Oklahoma (Imes and Emmett, 1994). In 2017, the U.S. Geological...

This topobathymetric digital elevation model (TBDEM) represents the topography and bathymetry for the Eastern Shore peninsula of Virginia, including Accomack and Northampton counties, and extending into Worcester and Somerset counties in Maryland. The TBDEM has a horizontal grid spacing of 1 meter and vertical units of 1 (integer) centimeter. This dataset combines U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center Coastal National Elevation Database topobathymetric DEM (CoNED TBDEM) data with data from the USGS Northern Atlantic Coastal Plain DEM, the latter of which were used to extend the bathymetric surface further offshore. In some areas, National Map 3D Elevation Program (3DEP)...

In 2004, the U.S. Geological Survey initiated a large-scale regional study of the Denver Basin aquifer system to evaluate the hydrologic effects of continued pumping and document an updated groundwater-flow model useful for appraisal of hydrologic conditions (Paschke, 2011). This data release includes spatial datasets used as input for a three-dimensional groundwater-flow model of the Denver Basin aquifer system. Spatial datasets were developed for six Denver Basin bedrock aquifers and five intervening confining units including, from oldest to youngest, the Laramie-Fox Hills aquifer (KLF), Laramie confining unit (KLC), lower Arapahoe aquifer (LKA), Arapahoe confining unit (KAC), upper Arapahoe aquifer (UKA), Denver...

This study is one of several regional groundwater availability studies being done as part of the USGS Water Availability and Use Science Program. Groundwater from the coastal lowlands aquifer system is used mainly for public, irrigation, and industrial supply. Land-surface subsidence related to groundwater pumping is an issue of ongoing concern within this study area. During the first two years of...

In cooperation with the Llano Estacado Underground Water Conservation District (LEUWCD), the Sandy Land Underground Water Conservation District (SLUWCD), and the South Plains Underground Water Conservation District (SPUWCD), the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) compiled historical geophysical and geochemical data in Gaines, Yoakum, and Terry Counties, Texas, and collected additional data where gaps were evident to assist with building a conceptual hydrogeologic model of the Gaines, Yoakum, and Terry Counties region. The compiled historical data includes all data available from predevelopment (pre-1945) through present day. For this study, predevelopment is considered everything prior to 1945 when the large-scale groundwater...

A hydrogeologic framework was developed by USGS during 2016-19 to describe the groundwater system on the Virginia Eastern Shore. This USGS data release contains text files of (1) interpreted borehole hydrogeologic-unit top-surface altitudes, (2) summary values of previously documented estimates of aquifer hydraulic properties, and (3) groundwater-sample chloride concentrations and well summary statistics. In addition are shapefiles of altitude contours for 10 hydrogeologic-unit top surfaces, and for the groundwater 250 milligrams per liter chloride-concentration surface. This data release supports the following publication: McFarland, E.R., and Beach, T.A., 2019, Hydrogeologic framework of the Virginia Eastern...
