This dataset displays the boundaries of Intact Forest Landscapes for the Kenai region of the state of Alaska. Intact Forest Landscapes are defined as areas at least 50,000 hectares that are absent of human disturbance visible on satellite imagery (e.g., roads, logging, mining, settlement). For more information, see the full report, available on the Global Forest Watch website (www.globalforestwatch.org), or the Conservation Biology Institute website (http://www.consbio.org/cbi/projects/show.php?page=alaska);.

This dataset was last updated 02/2017. This version includes a new tidal restrictions metric that assesses the effect of undersized culverts and bridges on tidal regime. The previous version (3.1) was updated on 05/2016 by incorporating a revised version of the land cover classification, DSLland Version 3.1, developed by UMass, which included the addition of The Nature Conservancy’s Northeast lakes and ponds classification. This dataset depicts the ecological integrity of locations (represented by 30 m grid cells) throughout the northeastern United States based on environmental conditions existing in approximately 2010. Ecological integrity is defined as the ability of an area (e.g., local site or landscape) to...

This dataset combines "key ecological values" within intact forest landscapes in order to identify what can be called "key ecological areas" that is, the most valuable areas from an ecological perspective. Although intact forest landscapes have intrinsic value in themselves, identifying "key ecological values" within intact forest landscapes is challenging due to the limited amount of information on most remaining intact areas. It is also difficult to evaluate trade-offs in various prioritization schemes, as value judgments are required and values vary widely. In addition, the methodologies that have been developed for identifying and prioritizing values may not yet be sufficiently refined in order to receive...

This dataset depicts the ecological integrity of locations (represented by 30 m grid cells) throughout the northeastern United States based on environmental conditions existing in approximately 2010 for aquatic systems. The values for this dataset were extracted from the Index of Ecological Integrity, Region-wide, Version 3.2 for all aquatic systems. Updated 09/2017. The metadata for the original dataset is as follows:This dataset was last updated 02/2017. An intact forest landscape is defined by Global Forest Watch Canada as a contiguous mosaic of naturally occurring ecosystems, including forest, bog, water, tundra, and rock outcrops, that is within a forest ecozone, and that is essentially undisturbed by significant human influence visible on Landsat satellite images. Intact forest landscape fragments are the best remaining pieces of our once-intact forest landscapes and they are therefore critical to the restoration of ecosystem functioning in areas affected by human development. By mapping the remaining intact forest landscapes within Canada's forest ecozones, we aim provide better information for balancing industry needs and values with the need for recognition...

This dataset displays the boundaries of Intact Forest Landscapes for the islands in the Tongass region of the state of Alaska. Intact Forest Landscapes for islands are defined as areas at least 500 hectares that are absent of human disturbance visible on satellite imagery (e.g., roads, logging, mining, settlement). For more information, see the full report, available on the Global Forest Watch website (www.globalforestwatch.org), or the Conservation Biology Institute website (http://www.consbio.org/cbi/projects/show.php?page=alaska).

This dataset was last updated 05/2016. This version was updated using DSLland Version 3.1. The update to DSLland Version 3.1 from Version 3.0 is the addition of a lakes and ponds classification. This dataset depicts the ecological integrity of locations (represented by 30 m grid cells) throughout New York State based on environmental conditions existing in approximately 2010. Ecological integrity is defined as the ability of an area (e.g., local site or landscape) to sustain important ecological functions over the long term. In particular, the functions include the long-term ability to support biodiversity and the ecosystem processes necessary to sustain biodiversity. The Index of Ecological Integrity (IEI) is...

This dataset displays the boundaries of Intact Forest Landscapes for the islands in the coastal Kenai region of the state of Alaska.
