These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. This layer is geographically based on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and U.S. General Land Office Geographic Coordinate Data Base (GCDB) 1:24,000-scale Land survey Information System Data Base (LSIS) data for the states of Nevada and Utah sourced from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Digital Line Graph (DLG) dataset. Tabular data is derived from the Nevada Division of Water Resources (NDWR) Crop Inventory Data. NDWR inventories...
Every five years since 1950, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Water Use Information Program (NWUIP) has compiled water use information in the United States and published a circular report titled "Estimated use of water in the United States", that includes estimates of water withdrawals by State, sources of water withdrawals (groundwater or surface water), and water use category (irrigation, public supply, industrial, thermoelectric, etc.). This report discusses the impact of important considerations when estimating irrigated acreage and irrigation withdrawals, including estimates of conveyance loss, irrigation system efficiencies, pasture, horticulture, golf courses, and double cropping.

These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. Accurate delineations of irrigated acreage are needed for the development of water-use estimates and in determining water-budget calculations for the Basin and Range carbonate-rock aquifer system (BARCAS) study. ISatellite imagery from the Landsat Thematic Mapper and Enhanced Thematic Mapper platforms were used to delineate irrigated acreage on a field-by-field basis for the entire study area. Six hundred and forty-three fields were...
