To accurately estimate agricultural water use or to project future water demands, a detailed inventory of current irrigated crop acreage is needed at a high level of resolution. In many Florida counties this kind of detailed high-resolution inventory is not available. A detailed digital map and summary of irrigated acreage during the 2015 growing season was developed for 13 of the 15 counties that compose the Suwannee River Water Management District. The irrigated areas were delineated using land-use data, orthoimagery, water management district consumptive water-use permits, and digitized agricultural landuse maps developed by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Florida Statewide Agricultural...

This dataset is a 100-meter cell resolution raster dataset of estimated use of irrigated agricultural water use data for the southwestern U.S. The dataset was generated from 1:100,000-scale county boundary data, 30-meter 2001 National Land cover database (NLCD), and USGS estimated use of water in the United States in 2000.
In the western United States, more than 79 000 km2 has been converted to irrigated agriculture and urban areas. These changes have the potential to alter surface temperature by modifying the energy budget at the land–atmosphere interface. This study reports the seasonally varying temperature responses of four regional climate models (RCMs) – RSM, RegCM3, MM5-CLM3, and DRCM – to conversion of potential natural vegetation to modern land-cover and land-use over a 1-year period. Three of the RCMs supplemented soil moisture, producing large decreases in the August mean (− 1.4 to − 3.1 °C) and maximum (− 2.9 to − 6.1 °C) 2-m air temperatures where natural vegetation was converted to irrigated agriculture. Conversion to...

Near-surface geophysical surveys were conducted during March 2018 in an irrigated agricultural drainage near Delta, Colorado, locally know as Sunflower Drain. This data release presents results of two surveys, one using fiber-optic distributed temperature sensing (FO-DTS) and the second using a horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio (HVSR) passive seismic method. For the FO-DTS, a temperature sensitive armored cable with a spatial resolution of 3.31 feet (1.01 meter) was deployed along a 0.3 mile reach of Sunflower Drain. Data were collected and processed using an Oryx model SR Remote Logging DTS unit (Sensornet, 2020) run over a 48-hour period and integrated at 10-minute intervals. The DTS data are provided in two...

These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. This dataset represents the extent and spatial distribution of irrigated agricultural lands in the Upper Colorado River Basin for 2007-10. The boundaries in this dataset were modified from data developed by state and local agencies in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. The data contain information about the irrigation method used to water the fields and an estimate of the irrigation status of the field for the summer growing...
