Sea lamprey (Petromyzon marinus) control is achieved in tributaries to the Laurentian Great Lakes by applying lamprey-specific pesticides (lampricide) to habitats containing larval sea lamprey. Lampricide treatments are cheaper and more effective in watersheds where dams block runs of adult sea lamprey and hence limit the distribution of sea lamprey larvae. However, dams impound water and those without fishways block movement of valued fishes, outcomes that are untenable for some stakeholders. Here, an alternative to physical barriers was tested to block adult sea lamprey; a portable and seasonal non-physical barrier of pulsed direct current that does not impound water, allows fish passage when not operated, and...

These data contain biodata, net catch, and detection records for juvenile sea lamprey sampled in natural streams in Michigan and Quebec, Canada and those stocked into an artificial stream at the USGS Hammond Bay Biological Station for monitoring diel activity. During October 31 through November 9, 2011 scientists collected downstream migrating juvenile sea lamprey from the Little Carp River, Michigan, Lake Superior (46°50'6.34"N 88°28'57.58"W). Collections were permitted by the State of Michigan under the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Scientific Collectors Permit issued to U.S. Geological Survey, Hammond Bay Biological Station December 12, 2007; amended February 23, 2011. Between November 3, 2014 and...

In general, ChesMMAP is fishery-independent monitoring survey that uses a large-mesh bottom trawl to sample late juvenile-to-adult fishes in the mainstem of Chesapeake Bay. This program currently provides data on relative abundance, length, weight, sex ratio, maturity, age, and trophic interactions for several important fish species that inhabit the bay seasonally.

Columns of data representing Chehalis River tributary, sample reach locations, dates of water sampling, quantitative PCR results, and whether lamprey were sampled by electrofishing in each sample reach. ***Please note that the title of this data release used to be "Environmental DNA surveys for lampreys in Chehalis River tributaries, Washington, from 2015 and 2017," but was updated for version 2.0.

This dataset contains data collected on various vessel operations on the Great Lakes and their connecting channels, primarily the St. Clair River, Lake St. Clair, Detroit River, and western Lake Erie, although other locations have been sampled and included in this dataset. This dataset contains the field variables, environmental conditions, larval catches (numbers), larval fish identifications, and associated auxiliary information with the sampling locations.
