As part of a research study in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Army at Fort Irwin National Training Center, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) evaluated unsaturated zone soil property data of cores from a borehole for a newly drilled monitoring well near a dry well and Four-plex baseball field. Cores were continuous from land surface down to 240 feet below land surface and were drilled by consultants to EPA using sonic rotary–a fluidless drilling technique. Data on this page consist of: 1) field drilling notes from USGS and consultants to EPA (GeoSystems Analysis, Inc., Tucson, Arizona); 2) field descriptions of core lithology–including grain size, sorting, color, mineralogy,...

These digital maps are a reformulation of previously published maps, primarily maps of states. The reformulation gives all the maps the same structure and format, allowing them to be combined into regional maps. The associated data tables have information about age and lithology of the map units, also in a standard format.
Dataset contains digital versions of physical core logs housed in Missouri Geological Survey archives. The logs are variable in detail, ranging from simple locations and formation tops to extensive stratigraphic descriptions and chemistry. A portion were done by MGS staff; others were donated by industry, academia, and government entities. The dataset includes logs for mines or undeveloped deposits with occurrences of or potential for critical minerals, along with logs in areas with permissive geology. The dataset comprises three tables: header and location information; formation/stratigraphic top, bottom and written description; and geochemical and assay data.

This data release contains California Department of Water Resources borehole data that were regularized by the US Geological Survey. The dataset contains borehole lithologic data, and geospatial data of water wells in the Hat Creek basin California, located east of Mount Shasta in northern California. The borehole dataset is released as an excel table and a shapefile and includes (1) individual borehole location, and (2) downhole lithologic interval data derived from well drillers’ lithology logs. The geospatial data consists of a point feature class that is a 2-dimensional representation of the locations of Hat Creek basin well logs.

This data release codifies and attributes explanatory variables that could potentially influence groundwater quality at 50 groundwater wells used for domestic water supply and 43 groundwater sites used for public water supply in the U.S. Geological Survey’s Priority Basin Project Redding-Red Bluff shallow aquifer (NSV-SA) study unit in 2018-2019 and Northern Sacramento Valley public-supply (NSV-PA) study unit in 2007, respectively. Water quality from domestic and public-supply groundwater sites was assessed as part of the California State Water Resources Control Board’s Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment (GAMA) program. The NSV-SA and NSV-PA study units include domestic and public-supply wells within...

These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. This dataset is one of many developed in support of The High Plains Groundwater Availability Project and the U.S. Geological Survey Data Series Report: Geodatabase Compilation of Hydrogeologic, Remote Sensing, and Water-Budget-Component data for the High Plains aquifer, 2011 (DS777). This dataset represents a thickness-weighted average of hydraulic conductivity (K) and specific yield (Sy) for 4,309 well points in the northern High...

This geospatially explicit vector-based polygon dataset identifies 85 terrestrial ecological subsection delineations present in Southeast Alaska and the Tongass National Forest. Within each subsection one can expect to find a relatively consistent occurence and distribution of vegetation types. Due to the hydrologically-influenced geomorphology of Southeast Alaska specific key indicators of physiography, lithology, and surface geology were employed to systematically distinguish terrestrial ecosystems.

Borehole erosion tests were performed to quantify sediment erosion rates as a function of depth below grade and flow speed at locations along the Sacramento and American Rivers in 2019. The dataset consists of: - borehole caliper files describing the initial geometry of the borehole, and its shape after each test flow event, - where available, a digital time series describing discharge into the hole - where available, a digital time series describing water level in the water supply tank - log sheets with details such as test location, date, and personnel - digital log sheets in .pdf format include field-based and laboratory-based soil classification data, see "Drilling log file explanation.txt" for explanation of...

This data release was prepared as part of an agreement between the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) and the United States Geological Survey (USGS) to support the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA). Of the many components of that agreement there is a specific task requiring the Enhancement of Digital Well Completion Reports. Well-completion reports (WCRs) contain information about the wells, such as construction characteristics and lithologic data that is very valuable to SGMA. The data set presented here is a compilation of lithologic information transcribed verbatim from a subset of WCRs contained in DWRs Online System for Well Completion Reports (OSWCR). The format of the lithologic descriptions...

Africa terrestrial ecosystems were modeled using a biophysical stratification approach based on mapping the major structural components of ecosystems. New 90 meter base resolution continental datasets were developed for several key physical environment datalayers including coastlines, land surface forms, surficial lithology, and bioclimates. These unique physical components, considered as the fundamental building blocks of ecosystems, were reviewed by regional vegetation and landscape ecology experts and used in a classification and regression tree (CART) inductive model to map intermediate scale Africa terrestrial ecosystems. In the final dataset a total of 126 terrestrial ecosystem types were mapped, each with...

This data release provides a generalized lithology look-up table for the lithogeochemical classification of Vermont's bedrock geologic map units. The table is defined from the mapped bedrock geologic units published by Ratcliffe and others (2011) and the generalized lithology of rock group A and rock group B for lithogeochemical classification as defined by Robinson and Kapo (2003). The 2003 classification was created for all six New England states and Vermont's geologic units were based on an older, less detailed, bedrock map of Vermont by Doll and others (1961). The new data table in this data release is designed to be joined with the published attribute table from the 2011 map database, as part of the bedrock...

This data release consists of a single ESRI shapefile, Hydrogeo_SECTpts, with geologic information from the previously published Hydrogeology of Southeastern Connecticut (Melvin, 1974). Test boring location points digitized from georeferenced area maps (1:24,000 scale) are attributed with associated well log information: town, identification numbers, altitude, depth to bottom, and remarks regarding the geology of the well finish. Descriptions for the bottoms of boreholes recorded the source driller's logs.

This data release, RI_WRpts.gdb, consists of information from Rhode Island Ground-water maps published by the Rhode Island Water Resources Coordinating Board, the Rhode Island Port and Industrial Development Commission, Rhode Island Industrial Commission, and the Rhode Island Development Council; in cooperation with the U.S. Geological Survey. The point data on these maps have been digitized into a standard ArcGIS geodatabase format. Data about wells and test borings consists of geographic location, identification number, geologic material (bedrock or unconsolidated), altitude in feet of the bedrock surface or altitude of the bottom of well, and data source. Seismic survey locations and bedrock outcrops where they...
