During the summers of 2017 and 2020, our team collected gravity, ground magnetic (ATV and hiked traverses), paleomagnetic and rock property (density and susceptibility) data on the Umatilla Indian Reservation (UIR) in northeast Oregon to aid in characterizing subsurface stratigraphy using 2D and 3D modeling methods. This data was integrated with conductance surfaces from a 3D magnetotelluic model and regional stress data to generate geothermal resource favorability maps to inform future exploration and drilling efforts by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR).

This 3D voxel model of density in GOCAD format was used to study crustal architecture beneath the Southern Midcontinent (USA) by McCafferty and others (2019). The study covered a rectangular, multi-state area of 924 by 924 kilometers centered on Missouri, and a corresponding volume extending from the topographic surface to a depth of 50 kilometers below sea level. The 3D voxel model describes the density of the crust and upper mantle as interpreted using 3D inversion. The masked version excludes densities in areas where the Precambrian basement surface elevations are unknown. The individual voxel elements are 2,000 by 2,000 meters by 500 meters thick. The GOCAD voxel (GRID3D or Voxet) file format is documented...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) collected rock magnetic susceptibility measurements to help understand causative sources of airborne magnetic survey anomalies in the Iron Mountain-Menominee region, Michigan-Wisconsin. The measurements were made on outcrop and drill core using a handheld magnetic susceptibility meter. The measurements facilitate the interpretation of aeromagnetic anomalies and help map the distribution of Precambrian rocks in the region.

This database contains a comprehensive inventory of geologic (coral, coral reef, limestone, and sediment) cores and samples collected, analyzed, published, and/or archived by, or in collaboration with, the U.S. Geological Survey St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center (USGS SPCMSC). The SPCMSC Geologic Core and Sample Database includes geologic cores and samples collected beginning in the 1970s to present day, from study sites across the world. This database can be accessed through the CoreViewer 3.0 ArcOnline web mapping application, linked below. A copy of the data can also be downloaded from the web mapping application and the metadata is accessible through a link in the header of the application, as...

Gravity data were collected in August of 2019 at 21 sites on and around Iliamna Volcano and Anchorage, Alaska. Measurements were taken with a Lacoste & Romberg G-161 meter and reduced to obtain the complete Bouguer anomaly. A total of 39 magnetic susceptibility measurements were taken at 13 locations using a ZH Instruments SM30 susceptibility meter. This data release includes susceptibility measurements, processed gravity data, shapefiles with field locations, and site photos.

Variability in sediment properties with depth and the thickness of individual sedimentary layers are critical determinants of seabed acoustic response. The New England Mud Patch, located south of Cape Cod, is an unusual feature on the U.S. Continental Shelf in that it is composed of fine-grained sediment layers containing a relatively-homogeneous mix of sand, silt, and clay-sized particles bounded by more typical sandy shelf sediments. The unique characteristics and nature of this deposit is due to a derivation of sediments that have been transported to, and deposited in, a basal bowl-shaped depression since the last glacial maximum. Ninety-two piston, vibra-, and gravity cores with a maximum length of 8.2 meters...

This data release contains data from various geophysical studies performed around the larger Clayton Valley, NV area. These include reprocessed existing gravity data compiled from multiple sources, as well as newly collected gravity and ground magnetic data, and bulk densities and magnetic susceptibilities from outcrop, hand samples, and drill cores.

This dataset contains paleomagnetic data from 30 sites at two locations in northern California (16 sites at Ash Creek Butte and 14 sites at Crater Mountain), magnetic susceptibility-temperature curves for selected samples at Ash Creek Butte, and geochemical data for map units at Crater Mountain.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) collected magnetic susceptibility measurements on rock outcrops to help understand causative sources of magnetic survey anomalies in the Silverton caldera region, southwest Colorado. A total of 1,400 measurements of magnetic susceptibility from 87 locations have been conducted on Paleogene volcanic and plutonic rocks that have been hydrothermally altered. Magnetic susceptibility measurements were taken using an SM30 handheld instrument manufactured by ZH Instruments. The measurements aid in understanding the geology and potential mineral resources in the Silverton caldera. Previously mapped lithologies and alteration assemblages were used to guide measurement locations. Multiple...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) collected rock magnetic susceptibility measurements to understand the causative sources of airborne magnetic survey anomalies in the Wet Mountains, Colorado. A total of 808 measurements were collected over 50 locations from August 2021 to June 2022 on rocks ranging from Paleoproterozoic to Oligocene age. These measurements aid the interpretation of newly collected airborne geophysical data to identify concealed Ediacaran-Ordovician alkaline igneous features and potential rare earth element deposits. On average, 16 measurements were taken at each location and sample lithology was derived from field observations and previously published maps noted in the supplemental information section...
The Halfway House site in interior Alaska is arguably the most studied loess deposit in northwestern North America. The site contains a complex paleomagnetic and paleoenvironmental record, but has lacked the robust chronologic control that would allow its full potential to be exploited. Detailed reexamination of stratigraphy, paleomagnetics and tephrostratigraphy reveals a relatively complete marine isotope stage (MIS) 6 to Holocene record constrained by the Old Crow (124 ± 10 ka), VT (106 ± 10 ka), Sheep Creek-Klondike (ca. 80 ka), Dominion Creek (77 ± 8 ka) and Dawson (ca. 30.2 cal ka BP) tephras. We show two well-developed paleosols formed during Marine Isotope Stages (MIS) 5e and 5a, while MIS 5c and 5b are...
