This data set includes geographic coordinates for both pre- and post-adjustment locations used to georectify orthoimagery and digital surface models derived from aerial imagery collected using unoccupied aerial systems (UAS) in October 2016. Georeferencing links are provided for each data type (color or multi-band imagery) and portion of the atoll sampled during different UAS missions. Orthoimagery and DSM derived from a given data set and area were georeferenced using the same set of points.

The data provide location and data quality information for ground control points (GCP) deployed at Palmyra Atoll for acquisition of imagery using small unoccupied aerial systems (sUAS) in October 2016. Thales ProMark 3 handheld geographic positioning systems (GPS) were used as both a local base station and to record locations of individual GCPs, with occupancy times of approximately 30 minutes per GCP. Location data for GCPs were post-processed against base station data using Mobile Mapper Office software to yield local position accuracy of approximately 0.1 m.

This database is a compilation of marine mammal and seabird information collected along the Pacific coast of the United States and U.S. territories in the Pacific from surveys that were solicited among regional research communities and persons. Information from standardized surveys was gathered from 2015 to 2018 and includes programs and researchers who collected information regarding seabirds since 1960. These data support the following publication: Adams, J., Lafferty, K.D., Kelsey, E.C., and Johnston, C.A. 2019. Synopsis of Research Programs that can Provide Baseline and Monitoring Information for Offshore Energy Activities in the Pacific Region: Seabird and Marine Mammal Surveys in the Pacific Region. U.S....

These data provide observations of food items observed held by anterior foot of black abalone (presumably for feeding) at 9 different sites in the rocky intertidal zone around San Nicolas Island, California. Observations were made at low tide while censusing the population on permanently marked transects over a 26 year time period. Also included are some associated abalone size data.

Marine biodiversity is a key component of ocean health. Monitoring and understanding marine biodiversity is essential for our ability to forecast and respond to changes. The goal of the Arctic Marine Biodiversity Observing Network (AMBON) project is to demonstrate and build an operational marine biodiversity observing network from microbes to whales, integrating diversity levels from genetic to organismal. AMBON field region is located on the Chukchi Sea continental shelf in the US Arctic as a region exposed to climatic changes and anthropogenic influences. This dataset contains biomass and abundance data collected in the Chukchi Sea during the August 2017 Arctic Marine Biodiversity Observing Network (AMBON) research...

Status and distributions of global mangroves have been mapped using recently available Global Land Survey (GLS) data and the Landsat archive. Approximately 1000 Landsat scenes were interpreted using hybrid supervised and unsupervised digital image classifcation techniques. Each image was normalized for variation in solar angle and earth-sun distance by converting the digital number values to the top-of-the-atmosphere reflectance. Ground truth data and existing maps and databases were used to select training samples and also for iterative labelling. Results were validated using existing GIS data and the published literature to map ‘true mangroves’.

The data set includes feeding observations of black abalone (Haliotis cracherodii) at long-term intertidal monitoring sites around San Nicolas Island, California from 1982 - 2019. This includes site locations, sites, date of observation, observed food items, and abalone shell length when available. Seasonal (spring and fall) GIS maps of giant kelp (Macrocystis pyrifera) canopy distributions from the waters surrounding San Nicolas Island in 1981-1992 are also provided. These data support the following publication: Vanblaricom, G.R. and Kenner, M.C., 2020. Dietary Patterns in Black Abalone Haliotis cracherodii Leach, 1814 as Indicated by Observation of Drift Algal and Seagrass Capture at San Nicolas Island, California,...
