Data provided here describe geochemical correction of carbon-14 in dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) for groundwater age dating. Datasets include major ion chemistry of groundwater samples, model parameter inputs, and final corrected carbon-14 in DIC. Geochemical correction was completed in two phases: determination of reactive phase mole transfers through an inverse geochemical model (PHREEQC; Parkhurst and Appleo, 1992) and tracking of isotopic mass transfer among phases (NetpathXL; Parkhusrtand Charlton, 2008). Parkhurst, D.L., and Appelo, C.A.J., 2013, Description of input and examples for PHREEQC version 3—A computer program for speciation, batch-reaction, one-dimensional transport, and inverse geochemical...

These data were compiled to evaluate the magnitude and direction of change from historical conditions in climate metrics across the Southeastern Utah Group (SEUG) of National Parks. Objective(s) of our study were to quantify the magnitude and direction of change from historical conditions in climate metrics across SEUG parks at a meaningful scale for land managers and practitioners. These data represent the historical and projected future average temperatures for two emission scenarios and 12 global circulation models. Included are the annual average temperatures and the average temperatures for each season. These data were created by sampling representative locations across each National Park unit and simulating...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Bureau of Land Management, used streamflow measurements at 11 partial-record sites and related them to nearby USGS or Idaho Power Company real-time streamgages (index sites) to provide daily mean streamflow values at ungaged (partial-record) sites within the Wild and Scenic River of the Owyhee Canyonlands Wilderness, Idaho. Daily mean streamflow was estimated by developing a regression relationship between streamflow at each partial-record site and the index site for the period of record of the index site. The regressions are then used to estimate annual and semimonthly 20-, 50-, and 80-percent exceedance probability streamflow statistics at each partial-record...

This data release contains extent shapefiles for 16 hypothetical slope failure scenarios for a landslide complex at Barry Arm, western Prince William Sound, Alaska. The landslide is likely active due to debuttressing from the retreat of Barry Glacier (Dai and others, 2020) and sits above Barry Arm, posing a tsunami risk in the event of slope failure (Barnhart and others, 2021). Since discovery of the landslide by a citizen scientist in 2020, kinematic structural elements have been mapped (Coe and others, 2020) and ground-based and satellite synthetic aperture radar (SAR) have been used to track ongoing movement at a high spatial resolution (Schaefer and others, 2020; Schaefer and others, 2022). These efforts have...
An idealized domain is setup to test the development of Submerged Aquatic Vegetation (SAV) growth model within the Coupled Ocean-Atmosphere-Wave-Sediment Transport (COAWST) model. The change in SAV biomass is computed from temperature, nutrient loading and light predictions obtained from coupled hydrodynamics (temperature), bio-geochemistry (nutrients) and bio-optical (light) models. In exchange, the growth of SAV sequesters or contributes nutrients from the water column and sediment layers. The presence of SAV modulates current and wave attenuation and consequently affects modelled sediment transport. The idealized domain simulation shows that the newly developed framework can simulate a two-way coupled SAV-biogeochemistry-hydrodynamic...

These GeoTIFF data were compiled to investigate how a new multivariate matching algorithm transfers simulated plant functional biomass of big sagebrush plant communities from 200 sites to a gridded product with 30-arcsec spatial resolution. Objectives of our study were to (1) describe how climate change will alter the biomass and composition of key plant functional types; (2) quantify the impacts of climate change on future functional type biomass and composition along climatic gradients; (3) identify if and which geographic locations will be relatively unaffected by climate change while others experience large effects; and (4) determine if there is consistency in climate change impacts on plant communities among...

The algorithms in this data release implement a State-Space Model (SSM) of vertical infiltration through the unsaturated zone and recharge to the water table. These algorithms build on previous investigations available at https://doi.org/10.1029/2020WR029110 and https://doi.org/10.1111/gwat.13206. The SSM is defined by observed states (i.e., the water-table altitude) and unobserved states (i.e., fluxes through the unsaturated zone and recharge to the water table)and interprets time-series data for observations of water-table altitude and meteorological inputs (i.e., the liquid precipitation rate and the Potential Evapotranspiration (PET) rate). The algorithms first perform the estimation of the SSM parameters from...

In 2011-12, the U.S. Geological Survey conducted a study of the and hydrogeomorphic history and hydrodynamic characteristics of the lower 5 kilometers of the Sheboygan River, a tributary to Lake Michigan in eastern Wisconsin. The hydrogeomorphic history and stability of an ecologically important island complex in the Sheboygan River, the Wildwood Islands, was studied to determine the potential effects of inundation of island surfaces on riparian vegetation and potential areas of erosion and deposition. A two-dimensional (2D) channel hydraulics model was developed for simulating the interaction of riverine flows with varying lake levels and seiche effects. This dataset contains model input and output associated with...

This data release describes one (1) Microsoft Excel table of lumped parameter models of groundwater age for groundwater discharging to the South Loup River, Nebraska. The table (LPMAgeResults) includes final models of groundwater age and metrics by calibration of lumped parameter models to tracer concentrations using TracerLPM software (Jurgens and others, 2012). Interpreted results presented here were used to guide hydrologic interpretations of groundwater sources and flow paths of groundwater discharging to the South Loup River, NE.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho, used streamflow measurements at 14 partial-record sites and related them to nearby USGS real-time streamgages (index sites) to provide daily mean streamflow values at ungaged (partial-record) sites. Daily mean streamflow was estimated by developing a regression relationship between streamflow at each partial-record site and the index site for the period of record of the index site. The daily mean streamflow at partial-record sites will support the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho effort to understand fish and wildlife habitat in the watershed and provide streamflow estimates for Kootenai River tributaries for use in hydraulic modeling that...

Greater sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus) has been identified as a potential umbrella species with the assumption that conservation of their habitats in sagebrush ecosystems may benefit multiple other wildlife species, but co-occurrence with an umbrella species does not necessarily guarantee species will respond positively to management for sage-grouse. This may be particularly true for ecotones, such as at the eastern edge of the sage-grouse range where sagebrush steppe and Great Plains grasslands intersect. We used a novel application of neutral landscape models (Etherington et al., 2015) to evaluate observed and expected overlap between greater sage-grouse habitat (1994-2010; Fedy et al., 2014) and distribution...
These data were compiled for the study: Divergent climate change effects on widespread dryland plant communities driven by climatic and ecohydrological gradients. The objectives of our study were to (1) describe how climate change will alter the biomass and composition of key plant functional types; (2) quantify the impacts of climate change on future functional type biomass and composition along climatic gradients; (3) identify if and which geographic locations will be relatively unaffected by climate change while others experience large effects; and (4) determine if there is consistency in climate change impacts on plant communities among a representative set of climate scenarios. These data represent geographic...
