These data describe the distribution and abundance of Hydropsyche, a widespread and diverse genus of net-spinning caddisflies, in the Colorado River Basin. Abundance data, measured as catch rates, were collected by citizen scientists using light traps. We subsampled Hydropsyche spp. from light trap samples collected throughout the Colorado River Basin and measured the lengths and widths of mesothoracic tibia and first tarsal segments. Samples and measurements were processed at Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center in Flagstaff, AZ.
This data release is part of a larger data release including data collected in the pursuit of identifying pre- and post-colonial riparian ecosystems found throughout Anne Arundel County, Maryland, USA. A single raster file is included, and represents a topological classification of the entire county according to a hydrologically conditioned Digital Elevation Model (DEM). These data were generated through the use of r.geomorphon, a GRASS GIS toolkit, to classify local terrain conditions into one of ten distinct landforms called geomorphons.

Eggshells of 13 waterbird species were divided in half longitudinally and the outer eggshell membrane was removed from one of the halves. Eggshell thickness was measured for both eggshell halves, both with and without the outer eggshell membrane. The eggshell membrane thickness was calculated by taking the difference between the two thickness measurements. These data support the following publication: Santolo, G.M., Peterson, S.H., Cooney, B., Hartman, C.A., Herzog, M.P. and Ackerman, J.T., 2024. Eggshell membrane thickness and its contribution to total eggshell thickness for 13 waterbird species. The Wilson Journal of Ornithology. https://doi.org/10.1676/23-00017

This dataset contains morphometric information from Burmese pythons collected from an invasive population in southern Florida between 1995-2021. Scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey and the National Park Service curated this dataset as a repository for records of Burmese pythons found on or nearby federal lands in southern Florida, including Everglades National Park, Big Cypress National Preserve, Biscayne National Park, and Crocodile Lake National Wildlife Refuge. As such, numerous entities actively or incidentally involved in python research or management activities contributed specimens and/or data to this dataset, including but not limited to the U.S. Geological Survey, National Park Service, U.S. Fish...
We analyzed morphological and molecular data from one existing and one newly discovered population of 'bullseye' snakehead (Teleostei: Channidae) from Florida. Morphological and meristic data were collected from museum collections and compared with data from recent taxonomic revisions of related species in the 'Marulius' species group from southeast Asia. Additionally, we performed DNA sequencing of COI barcodes from museum tissue vouchers (corresponding with lots examined for morphology) and compared these sequences with an existing COI barcode library for the 'Marulius' group. These analyses were used to determine the taxonomic identity of snakeheads established in Florida.
This dataset contains information about 58 hatchling Burmese pythons collected in 2015 from an invasive population in southern Florida. These hatchlings were used in an experiment that assessed the effects of food availability, clutch, and sex on their growth in captivity. The hatchlings were collected as eggs from the nests of two wild pythons, assigned to High or Low feeding treatments, and their growth and meal consumption were monitored for 12 weeks. The dataset includes their hatch dates, feeding treatment groups, clutch designations, sex, weekly morphometric measurements, feeding activity, and feeding behavior.
These data describe morphometric (body shape) measurements of wild and artificially reared (i.e., raised in a laboratory or fish hatchery) cisco (Coregonus artedi) from lakes Huron and Ontario in the Laurentian Great Lakes. Specifically, this data release includes traditional morphometric data (i.e., measurements of fish specimens) describing wild and artificially reared cisco from Lake Huron, as well as geometric morphometric data (i.e., landmarks placed on images of fish) describing cisco head shapes for wild and artificially reared cisco from both lakes Huron and Ontario. Artificially reared individuals from Lake Huron were raised at the U.S. Geological Survey Great Lakes Science Center in Ann Arbor, MI, USA,...

This data release includes data collected in the pursuit of identifying pre- and post-colonial riparian ecosystems found throughout Anne Arundel County, Maryland, USA. Two comma-delimited tables are included. The first documents pollen records at various depths identified within sediment samples taken throughout the county's floodplains. The other describes morphological information identifying tree species found buried in-situ throughout the county.

This data package contains one table with morphometric and diet information for "non-die-off" seabirds captured and collected in southcentral and southwest Alaska. Data pertains to birds captured (live) or collected (lethally) including, bird identification numbers, sampling dates, geographic locations, body measurements, diets (from either stomach contents or regurgitated prey), and sex and age of the bird when discernible. Common Murres (Uria aalge) and Black-legged Kittiwakes (Rissa tridactyla) were captured from their breeding colonies in lower Cook Inlet, Alaska, 2016-2023. Kittiwakes, murres, Glaucous-winged Gulls (Larus glaucescens) and Horned Puffins (Fratercula corniculata) were collected in Prince William...

These data contain morphometric measurements collected on the left side of Cisco (Coregonus artedi) collected from Lake Ontario in 2018. Measurements were obtained by two methods, first by direct measurements made on the thawed specimens using a hand caliper by one person, then using a digital image technique. The digital image measurements were completed by two different measurers to evaluate how reproducible measurements extracted from digital images were between the two measurers.
These data were compiled to evaluate the effects of low steady weekend flows on emergent aquatic insects during the first year of experimental Bug Flows below Glen Canyon Dam (2018) and recreation in Glen Canyon in the second year of Bug Flows (2019). Bug Flows are experimental flows that were released from Glen Canyon Dam in 2018 and 2019. The flows consist of low steady flows on weekends and have the goal of increasing aquatic insect production. These data were compiled for an outreach article providing Citizen Scientists with an update on ongoing research evaluating the effects of Bug Flows. Midge and caddisfly data were collected by Citizen Scientists using light traps. Angler data were collected under a paired...
This data release includes data collected in the pursuit of identifying pre- and post-colonial riparian ecosystems found throughout Anne Arundel County, Maryland, USA. The single shapefile included documents the depths cored at both detailed study sites, and their spatial locations. Seventeen comma-delimited tables are included. Fourteen record pollen records at various depths identified within sediment cores taken at this study's two detailed investigation sites: Main Creek, near Pasadena, MD, and Bacon Ridge Branch, near Crownsville, MD. The remaining three include: radiocarbon dates associated with woody material identified in these sediment cores, visible, near-infrared, and X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) information...

This is a tabular data set that contains morphological and experimental data for a study testing if silver stage American eel respond to each other's odor. Inside a laboratory flume, downstream-swimming eels were exposed to both live (putative attractant) and dead (putative repellent) conspecific washings to determine whether their trajectory of downstream movement, level of activity, or time spent inside targeted areas of the arena changed after exposure. One CSV file contains eel morphological data and the other CSV file describes behavioral responses.
