These tables serve as input data for hierarchical models investigating interactions between raven density and Greater Sage-grouse nest success. Observations were recorded over an 11 year time period, spanning from 2009 through 2019. The model is run in JAGS via R, the code is publicly available via the U.S. Geological Survey's GitLab (O'Neil et al. 2023). We recommend not making any changes or edits to the tables unless the user is experienced with hierarchical modeling. Trout Unlimited will extend its existing Adopt-a-Trout program to the Henrys Fork River, a tributary to the Green River in the Colorado River basin. The project will include work with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department and local schools to tag and monitor Colorado River Cutthroat trout movements to learn more about fish passage issues, areas of high entrainment, habitat use, and native and wild trout migratory patterns. Colorado River Cutthroat trout are native to the Henrys Fork River and occupy portions of the drainage; however, no data exists for Colorado River Cutthroat trout in the Wyoming portion of the Henrys Fork drainage to understand population dynamics and habitat restraints.FY2014Trout Unlimited will...
A raster representing Greater Sage-grouse (hereafter sage-grouse) space-use and lek abundance. A higher pixel value corresponds to a greater amount of likelihood that the area is utilized by sage-grouse. Values are the result of combining a kernel density estimation on lek abundances with a raster representing distance to lek. The kernel density was calculated using maximum lek abundances observed between the most recent population nadir for the Great Basin region (2013) and the most recent lek counts available (2021). Polygons representing high-space use areas of Greater Sage-grouse (hereafter sage-grouse) space-use and lek abundance. Areas represent the 85 percent isopleth of the abundance and space-use index...
THIS IS A HISTORICAL RECORD. As of December 17, 2021, the BISON application will no longer be available online and has been replaced by https://www.gbif.us. The BISON APIs are still available at https://bison.usgs.gov/#api and the Integrated Publishing Toolkit is still available at https://bison.usgs.gov/ipt. The USGS Biodiversity Information Serving Our Nation (BISON) project is an online all-species mapping information system consisting of a large collection of species occurrence datasets (e.g., plants and animals) found in the United States, U.S. Territories, U.S. marine Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ), and Canada, with relevant geospatial layers. Species occurrences are records of organisms at a particular...
These data were collected by the Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center (GCMRC) to support riparian vegetation monitoring along the Colorado River between Glen Canyon Dam and the full pool level of Lake Mead. The objectives of the GCMRC riparian vegetation monitoring program are to annually measure and summarize the status (composition and cover) of native and non-native vascular plant species within the riparian zone of the Colorado River between Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Mead, assess change in the vegetation composition and cover in the riparian zone, as related to geomorphic setting and dam operations, particularly flow regime, and collect data in a manner that can be used by multiple stakeholders and is...

These data were compiled to investigate the evolutionary history of Hilaria jamesii, Hilaria mutica, and Hilaria rigida. The data release consists of two tab delimited text files that may be used to infer population structure (viva_structure.stru) or relationships among sampling localities (viva.phylip). Files record genetic variation on an individual (.stru) or sampling locality (.phylip) level. These files may be opened and edited in a text editor program, such as Notepad ++ (PC) or BBEdit (Mac). The .phylip file can be uploaded to phyML or SVDQuartets to generate a tree-based visualization of relationships ( http://www.atgc-montpellier.fr/phyml/ or https://paup.phylosolutions.com, repectively). The .stru file...
These data were compiled to monitor native fishes (particularly humpback chub Gila cypha) in the Little Colorado River, in the Grand Canyon, AZ. Objective(s) of our study were to evaluate the timing of native fish migration and the abundance of migratory and resident fishes between the Colorado and Little Colorado Rivers in the Grand Canyon. These data represent encounter histories for fishes - including array detections and physical captures. These data were collected in the lower 13.56 river kilometers of the Little Colorado River in April and May of 2021 and 2022. These data were collected by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (physical captures) and U.S. Geological Survey (array detections). These data can be used...
Background: The Nonindigenous Aquatic Species (NAS) Database functions as a repository and clearinghouse for the occurrence of nonindigenous aquatic species information from across the United States. The Database contains locality information on more than 1,300 species introduced as early as 1800, including freshwater vertebrates and invertebrates, aquatic plants, and marine fishes. Taxa include both foreign species and North American native species that have been translocated outside of their natural range. Locality data are derived from many sources, including scientific literature; Federal, State, and local natural resource monitoring programs; museum collections; news agencies; and direct submission through...
Cisco and Bloater growth data from hatchery reared fish were collected in association with a project to repopulate Lake Ontario native prey species. Fish were grown and measured under hatchery conditions for up to nine months before being released into Lake Ontario. Weekly measurements of total length, total weight, and morphometrics were recorded for both species to determine growth during their first year of growth for eight separate year-classes, 2012-2019.
Rasters representing Greater Sage-grouse (hereafter sage-grouse) habitat selection indices (HSI), habitat selection categories, HSI combined with space-use, and example management categories. Researchers with the U.S. Geological Survey, in close cooperation with multiple state and federal resource agency partners, sought to map sage-grouse distribution and produce example habitat designations in these states. Herein, we report results of our primary study objective, which was to map sage-grouse distribution and create example habitat management and priority designations, based on more than a decade of location and survival data collected from marked sage-grouse across the study region.
Rasters representing median raven density estimates, calculated from approximately 28,000 raven point count surveys conducted between 2009 and 2019. Estimates were the result of a Bayesian hierarchical distance sampling model, using environmental covariates on detection and abundance.
A raster identifying areas that met the criteria to be priority habitat before a fire disturbance occurred. This file is binary, a value of 1 indicates the pixel represents pre-fire priority habitat, a value of 0 indicates the pixel did not meet the criteria of selection, survival, and space-use to be considered pre-fire priority habitat.
Rasters representing Greater Sage-grouse (hereafter sage-grouse) survival indices and categories during the nesting, early brood, and late brood life stages. A higher pixel value corresponds to a better chance of survival. The four categories of survival are very low, low, moderate, and high. We have also included rasters representing source and sink habitats for sage-grouse. Habitat sinks occur in areas of maladaptive habitat selection, where there are relatively high levels of selection, but low chance of survival. Source habitats were defined as any pixel that supported both high selection and high survival for a given life stage. Importantly, a given pixel was only considered source habitat if it was not sink...
This data publication contains data files collected as part of a field, laboratory, and modeling effort aimed at uncovering ecological drivers of avian malaria transmission and impacts on Hawaiian honeycreepers across an elevational gradient on the eastern flank of Mauna Loa and Kilauea volcanoes on Hawaii Island. From 2001-2004, mosquito and bird data were collected at nine sites ranging 25 to 1,800 m above sea level. This data publication includes site and sampling coordinate data, mosquito capture data, mosquito avian malaria infection data, and point-transect distance sampling data. Site coordinate data consists of GPS spatial location data of sampling points where mosquitoes were captured and birds were surveyed...

We expanded developed methodology to incorporate habitat selection and survival during reproductive life stages and specific seasons with updated greater sage-grouse location and known fate datasets. We included brood-rearing areas that are understood to be threatened and important for population persistence. We combined predictive habitat map surfaces for each life stage and season with updated information on current occupancy patterns to classify habitat based on its suitability and probability of occupancy. We performed additional steps to delineate example habitat management areas, specifically: (1) incorporated corridors connecting key nesting and brood-rearing habitat; (2) corrected outputs for pre-wildfire...
We combined approximately 28,000 raven point count surveys with data from more than 900 sage-grouse nests between 2009 and 2019 within the Great Basin, USA. We modeled variation in raven density using a Bayesian hierarchical distance sampling approach with environmental covariates on detection and abundance. Concurrently, we modeled sage-grouse nest survival using a hierarchical frailty model as a function of raven density as well as other environmental covariates that influence risk of failure. Raven density commonly exceeded more than 0.5 ravens per square kilometer and increased at low relative elevations with prevalent anthropogenic development and/or agriculture. Reduced sage-grouse nest survival was strongly...
A biologist and field crew from Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center visited sites nine times throughout the breeding season (late May to mid-July) to record counts of grassland birds. Surveyors applied North American Breeding Bird Survey methodology to obtain counts at On-, Near-, and Off-road Stops, but unlike the North American Breeding Bird Survey, which features a single survey at each site, three replicate surveys were conducted on back-to-back-to-back days during each survey period to facilitate estimation of detection and occupancy probabilities. Assignment of surveyors to individual sites followed a design protocol that allows observer effects to also be estimated. The biologist visited each site once...

We propose to identify future risk of wildlife population decline for species inhabiting the Rio Grande, New Mexico. Specifically, we will examine and quantify the interactive effect of fire and climate change on the presence and long-term persistence of native and nonnative species in residing within Rio Grande riparian and wetland habitats. We will build upon recent species vulnerability assessment work conducted for the Rio Grande and incorporate new data and model output regarding fire behavior under different climate scenarios. Predictions for future species distributions will be coupled with scores representing species adaptive capacity to quantify vulnerability to changing climate and disturbance regimes....

Stream flow in the Colorado River and Dolores River corridors has been significantly modified by water management, and continued flow alteration is anticipated in future decades with projected increases in human water demand. Bottomland vegetation has been altered as well, with invasion of non-native species, increases in wildfire and human disturbance, and currently, rapid shifts in riparian communities due to biological and mechanical tamarisk control efforts. In light of these conditions, land managers are in need of scientific information to support management of vegetation communities for values such as healthy populations of sensitive fish and wildlife species and human recreation. We propose to address these...
