National Wildlife Refuges (NWRs) along the East Coast of the United States protect habitat for a host of wildlife species, while also offering storm surge protection, improving water quality, supporting nurseries for commercially important fish and shellfish, and providing recreation opportunities for coastal communities. Yet in the last century, coastal ecosystems in the eastern U.S. have been severely altered by human development activities as well as sea-level rise and more frequent extreme events related to climate change. These influences threaten the ability of NWRs to protect our nation’s natural resources and to sustain their many beneficial services. Through this project, researchers are collaborating with...

Create an inventory of water-related models that have been developed for the Rio Grande/Bravo basin. The summary includes a description of model river extent, spatial and temporal resolution, time period, model type, and their possible application for testing environmental flows or climate change future alternatives.

This model archive contains files for a set of groundwater flow, particle tracking, and management optimization models that simulate the area around the Navy-Northrop-Grumman contamination plume on Long Island, New York. These models were developed as in insets from the Long Island Regional “parent” Model, from which perimeter boundary conditions were inherited. In addition to input and output files for these models, this archive contains the modeling workflow python code and source data used to build the model. These materials have been included for repeatability and decision transparency.

Control of invasive sea lamprey recruitment from tributary streams is a major management objective in the Great Lakes, and benefits from barriers that prevent access to spawning habitat. As society moves toward removal of more tributary barriers due to concerns about native migratory fishes, aging infrastructure, and vulnerability to climate-driven flooding, it is important to assess the costs of alternative options for sea lamprey control. This project is integrating cost estimates for application of a lamprey-specific pesticide into cost-benefit optimization models used to support decisions about barrier removals that maximize restoration of habitat for native species. By integrating lamprey control options...
