Dataset contains sample-level metadata on unpublished field maps contained in Missouri Geological Survey archives. Maps were used for a wide range of projects; therefore type and quantity of data on each map varies considerably. Maps contain spatial data (locations of mines, springs, wells, outcrops, sinkholes, and other features), as well as field notes, measured and cross sections, detail sketches, material properties, and other geologic data. Maps are primarily 7.5-minute and 15-minute quadrangles; some with other scales are included. Display coordinates are the lower left hand corner of the map. Maps are available through the Material Request instructions noted below. MGS is in the process of attaching individual...
This dataset is a polygon coverage of counties limited to the extent of the Fire Clay coal zone resource areas and attributed with statistics on the thickness of the Fire Clay coal bed, its elevation, and overburden thickness, in feet. The file has been generalized from detailed geologic coverages found elsewhere in Professional Paper 1625-C. This resource model for the Fire Clay coal zone must be considered provisional, because the correlation of the zone continues to be evaluated in West Virginia.

The U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission, the Arkansas Geological Commission, and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has monitored water levels in the Sparta Sand of Claiborne Group and Memphis Sand of Claiborne Group since the 1920's. Ground-water withdrawals have increased while water levels have declined since monitoring was initiated. This report has been produced to describe ground-water levels in the aquifers in the Sparta Sand and Memphis Sand and provide information for the management of this valuable resource. The 2005 potentiometric-surface map of the aquifers in the Sparta Sand and Memphis Sand was constructed using water-level data...

Pittsburgh Coal Bed County Statistics (Chemistry) in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, and Maryland
This dataset is a polygon coverage of counties limited to the extent of the Pittsburgh coal bed resource areas and attributed with statistics on these coal quality parameters: ash yield (percent), sulfur (percent), SO2 (lbs per million Btu), calorific value (Btu/lb), arsenic (ppm) content and mercury (ppm) content. The file has been generalized from detailed geologic coverages found elsewhere in Professional Paper 1625-C. The attributes were generated from public data found in the geochemical dataset found in Chap. C, Appendix 8, Disc 1, as well as some additional proprietary data. Please see the metadata file found in Chap. C, Appendix 9, Disc 1, for more detailed information on the geochemical attributes. The...

This dataset is a polygon coverage of the resource areas of the Lower Kittanning coal zone. This dataset is the digital compilation of geologic and resource maps provided mostly by State geologic surveys and depicts the projected area of occurrence of the Lower Kittanning coal bed. The Lower Kittanning coal bed is in Ohio, West Virginia, western Pennsylvania, and western Maryland and is an important economic coal bed in the northern part of the Appalachian Basin. It is of additional importance because it is one of the coal beds that has potential for coalbed methane development within the Allegheny Group throughout most of the Appalachian foreland basin in Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Maryland. This file...

The Sparta aquifer is used in 15 parishes in north-central Louisiana, primarily for public supply and industrial purposes. Of those parishes, eight (Bienville, Claiborne, Jackson, Lincoln, Ouachita, Union, Webster, and Winn) rely on the Sparta aquifer as their principal source of groundwater. In 2010, withdrawals from the Sparta aquifer in Louisiana totaled 63.11 million gallons per day (Mgal/d), a reduction of more than 11 percent from 1995, when the highest rate of withdrawals (71.32 Mgal/d) from the Sparta aquifer were documented. The Sparta aquifer provides water for a variety of purposes which include public supply (34.61 Mgal/d), industrial (25.60 Mgal/d), rural domestic (1.50 Mgal/d), and various agricultural...

This dataset is a polygon coverage of counties limited to the extent of the Pocahontas No. 3 coal bed resource areas. The eastern limit of the coal bed is along the Allegheny structural front, where the bed is either folded to vertical, overturned to the northwest, or covered by thrust sheets in the western part of the Valley and Ridge Province. The western limit of minable coal is in the subsurface and was selected at the 14-inch isoline. The file has been generalized from detailed geologic coverages found elsewhere in Professional Paper 1625-C.
