These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. The U.S. Geological Survey developed this dataset as part of the Colorado Front Range Infrastructure Resources Project (FRIRP). One goal of the FRIRP was to provide information on the availability of those hydrogeologic resources that are either critical to maintaining infrastructure along the northern Front Range or that may become less available because of urban expansion in the northern Front Range. This dataset extends from the...

Digital surfaces and thicknesses of selected hydrogeologic units of the Floridan aquifer system were developed to define an updated hydrogeologic framework as part of the U.S. Geological Survey Groundwater Resources Program. This feature class contains a gridded surface depicting thickness of residuum in feet. It was calculated by surface subtraction: land surface DEM - fig19_top_FAS_raster

This ArcView shapefile contains a polygon representation of the overburden thickness above the uppermost coal in the Deadman coal zone in the southern part (Black Butte area) of the Point of Rocks-Black Butte coalfield, Greater Green River Basin, Wyoming. This shapefile is part of the National Coal Resource Assessment of the Northern Rocky Mountain and Great Plains Fort Union Coal Resources Assessment Area. This shapefile can be shown in relation to other relevant themes of this area.

This ArcView shapefile contains a polygon representation of the overburden to the base of the Rosebud-Robinson coal zone, Colstrip coalfield (Powder River Basin), Montana. This theme was created specifically for the National Coal Resources Assessment in the Northern Rocky Mountains and Great Plains Region.

This ArcView shapefile contains a polygon representation of the Jim Bridger Coal Zone overburden. This coal zone is a part of the National Coal Resources Assessment of the Northern Rocky Mountain and Great Plains Fort Union Coal Resources Assessment Area. This coal zone can be shown in relation to other relevant themes of this area.

The obtop_f grid represents the modeled elevation of the top of the Overburden geomodel unit at a 500 foot resolution. It is one grid of a geomodel that consists of eleven grids and a spatial extent polygon shapefile. As part of a U.S. Geological Survey Groundwater Resources Program study, a three-dimensional geomodel was constructed for approximately 53,000 mi2 of the Columbia Plateau in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. This geomodel...

This is a coverage that shows areas in the Kaiparowits Plateau where geologic conditions in the Calico and A-sequences are more favorable for current underground mining technology (Hettinger and other, chap. T). This coverage contains numerous attributes of information. It was compiled by computing the geometric intersection of nine polygon coverages using the ARC/INFO UNION command. This coverage is characterized as being a GUIDE TO WHERE THE MORE FAVORABLE COAL AREAS ARE LIKELY TO BE for current underground mining technology: areas where coal beds in the Calico and A-sequences are greater than 3.5 feet thick, less than 3,000 feet deep, and inclined by less than 12 degrees, as described in Hettinger and others,...

These are shapefiles and polygon coverages that contain numerous attributes of information on coal in the Calico and A-sequences of the Upper Cretaceous Straight Cliffs Formation in the Kaiparowits Plateau study area in southern Utah. These layers were derived from a "union" process of combining numerous polygon coverages using the Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc. (ESRI) Arc/Info UNION command, and finally calculating coal tonnage in INFO. Net coal thickness values are from 209 data points and represent all coal beds that are more than 1 foot thick. The outside polygon defines the base of the coal-bearing Calico and A-sequences east of 112 degrees of longitude. The northern boundary is delineated by...
