Federal protected areas such as national parks and preserves and wildlife refuges cover large areas of the study area. Because of its remote location, few people visit the region for recreational use, and except for the Iditarod, activities are concentrated in the summer. Recreation in the region includes sport hunting, sport fishing, and general outdoor hiking and camping activities.

This "Surface Management Agency" data layer portrays tracts of federal land for the United States and classifies these holdings by administrative agency. Multiple federal agencies have contributed to the contents of this layer and it is in a continuous state of update. Source and date of feature updates are tracked to the feature level.

This shapefile contains land status and Federal mineral ownership of the Hanna and Carbon Basins, Wyoming. The polygon shapefile contains two attributes of ownership information for each polygon. One attribute indicates where the surface is State owned, privately owned, or, if Federally owned, which Federal agency manages the land surface. The other attribute indicates which minerals, if any, are owned by the Federal govenment. This coverage is based on land status and Federal mineral ownership data compiled by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the Wyoming State Bureau of Land Management (BLM) at a scale of 1:24,000. These data were compiled primarily to serve the USGS National Coal Resource Assessment Projects...

This dataset contains generalized land status pattern for Alaska with respect to Federal, State, and Native Lands. The Land Status attributes are a snapshot of the Land Information System Database and are only accurate as that database. The data is produced to the section (square mile) level.

These layers show some of the human interactions with the bottomland area. Recreation sites, roads, fuel treatment areas, and river camp layers were all acquired from project partners or publically available data and clipped to or near the bottomland boundary for use here. Bottomland reaches, kilometers, 2010 channel layers were created for the Colorado River Conservation Planning project.

It is important to note that just because an area has high mineral potential does not mean it will be developed. There are several factors that go into starting up a mining endeavor. Also areas with high mineral potential inside protected areas are not likely to be developed.

These data was collected by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in New Mexico at both the New Mexico State Office and at the various field offices. This dataset is meant to depict the surface owner or manager of the land parcels. In the vast majority of land parcels, they will be one and the same. However, there are instances where the owner and manager of the land surface are not the same. When this occurs, the manager of the land is usually indicated. BLM's Master Title Plats are the official land records of the federal government and serve as the primary data source for depiction of all federal lands. Information from State of New Mexico is the primary source for the depiction of all state lands. Auxilliary...

Land status and Federal mineral ownership in the Danforth Hills coal field, northwestern Colorado. Polygons that make up the ownership coverage include counties, 7.5' quadrangles, townships, surface and coal ownership. The ownership coverage was clipped to the base of the A and B coal zones or top of the Trout Creek Sandstone Mbr.

The REA estimates the condition of 14.2 million acres of land in southern New Mexico. It is based on states described in “ecological site descriptions” (ESDs) and expert knowledge. ESDs have been developed by the Natural Resource Conservation Service, and they are a consistent, science and expert-based resource increasingly used by land managers. It focuses on public rangelands - grasslands, shrublands, and savannas - managed by the Bureau of Land Management, and includes some other lands as well. The REA compares current condition to the expected or “reference” condition, and summarizes the vegetation, ecological processes and restorative management options of these states. Depending on these management options...

These data display national forest and ranger district boundaries for Region 1, 2 and 4. Note that many private and state-owned parcels lie within the national forest boundaries depicted in these data. Note that these data do not conform entirely with official national forest boundaries: (1) the boundaries included here have been expanded to encompass national forest system lands that lie outside of the official forest boundary and (2) many small and discrete polygons that have no national forest ownership but were (and are) included in the officially designated forest boundary are not included in these data. To obtain actual boundaries use most accurate land management data layer.

Colorado Ownership, Management and Protection is a comprehensive dataset of land ownership and management. This version contains data from Federal agencies, State agencies, The Nature Conservancy, city and county sources and land trust sources. Data was collected from multiple sources and processed into one complete layer. This dataset was created to support the BLM's San Luis Valley-Taos Plateau Landscape Assessment by clipping the data to the ecoregion boundary.
