This dataset compiles land ownership and management data from state and federal agencies to create a map showing ownership, management, and conservation status of all land in Alaska. State, federal, and private lands, including Native corporations and Native allotments, are included. Conservation status describes the degree to which land, particularly public land, is legally designated and explicitly managed for biodiversity conservation. The most common classification, developed by the USGS GAP Program (www.gap.uidaho.edu), classifies land management types into four conservation status categories according to the degree to which the land is explicitly managed for conservation. In general, conservation status 1...

These data display national forest and ranger district boundaries for Region 1, 2 and 4. Note that many private and state-owned parcels lie within the national forest boundaries depicted in these data. Note that these data do not conform entirely with official national forest boundaries: (1) the boundaries included here have been expanded to encompass national forest system lands that lie outside of the official forest boundary and (2) many small and discrete polygons that have no national forest ownership but were (and are) included in the officially designated forest boundary are not included in these data. To obtain actual boundaries use most accurate land management data layer.

This dataset is used to denote USFS Land Use Designations (LUD) on the Tongass National Forest. Chapter 3, of Land and Resource Management Plan includes the complete management prescription for the 19 LUDS used in the Forest Plan. Please refer to the following document for further information:Â https://fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5367422.pdfNote: Private land was taken out from this layer. Before doing any calculations, users will need to overlay with currrent ownership.

This map depicts the major terrestrial landforms in the Wyoming Basin Ecoregion. Major hydrologic features within the Wyoming Basin Ecoregions are shown for by hydrologic region 1st level and 2nd level watersheds. In addition, the Bureau of Land Management Field Office boundaries, Land ownership, distribution of ecological communities and dominant land use that intersect the Wyoming Basin Rapid Ecoregional Assessment project area are portrayed. These data are provided by Bureau of Land Management (BLM) "as is" and may contain errors or omissions. The User assumes the entire risk associated with its use of these data and bears all responsibility in determining whether these data are fit for the User's intended use....

This "Surface Management Agency" data layer portrays tracts of federal land for the United States and classifies these holdings by administrative agency. Multiple federal agencies have contributed to the contents of this layer and it is in a continuous state of update. Source and date of feature updates are tracked to the feature level.

This report is volume 2 of a two-volume ecological assessment of grassland ecosystems in the Southwestern United States. Broad-scale assessments are syntheses of current scientific knowledge, including a description of uncertainties and assumptions, to provide a characterization and comprehensive description of ecological, social, and economic components within an assessment area. Volume 1 of this assessment focused on the ecology, types, conditions, and management practices of Southwestern grasslands. Volume 2 (this volume) describes wildlife and fish species, their habitat requirements, and species-specific management concerns, in Southwestern grasslands. This assessment is regional in scale and pertains primarily...

About NM Resource Geographic Information System (RGIS) is New Mexico’s geospatial data clearinghouse, hosted and managed by the Earth Data Analysis Center at University of New Mexico for over 23 years. The RGIS Program was created by the New Mexico Legislature in 1988 and was designated as the state digital geospatial data clearinghouse in 2013. The RGIS Program was designed and developed specifically by the Earth Data Analysis Center (EDAC) and the Bureau of Business and Economic Research (BBER) at the University of New Mexico. The RGIS Program mission is to develop and expand geographic information and use of GIS technology, creating a comprehensive GIS resource for state and local governments, educational institutions,...

Our Mission & History Volunteers in the Tumacacoris. Photo by Trevor Hare Sky Island Alliance is a science-based conservation organization. We are dedicated to the protection and restoration of the rich natural heritage of native species and habitats in the Sky Island region of the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. We work with volunteers, scientists, land owners, public officials, and government agencies to establish protected areas, restore healthy landscapes, and promote public appreciation of the region's unique biological diversity. Sky Island Alliance pioneered landscape-level conservation planning by integrating the science of conservation biology with grassroots organizing and on-the-ground...

Information about the condition of the land and related natural resources is needed at many different scales to inform decision makers. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) gathers rangeland on-site data as part of the National Resources Inventory (NRI). This report focuses on information derived from NRI rangeland data collected on-site 2004 to 2011. The findings reported here focus on key issues in rangeland science, including rangeland health, non-native plant species, non-native and native invasive plant species, bare ground, inter-canopy gaps and soil surface aggregate stability. Future reports will provide monitoring results based on data collected at revisited...

Currently in Mexican arid regions, high pressure is applied to natural resources for their utilization, principally in the form of: uncontrolled grazing omnipresent in every corner accessible to cattle, opening high risk lands up for crop production, overexploitation of aquifers, discharge of contaminated waters, riparian areas drying up, exploration and uncontrolled exploitation of natural goods: flora, fauna, oil, gas, etc., without promotion of participatory activities for resource conservation and improvement among users, which results in a poor understanding of the precarious condition of the grassland environment. Se ejerce actualmente en México, una elevada presión de uso de los recursos naturales de estas...

This data set depicts federal lands having restrictions on access or activities -- that is, lands mangaed by the National Park Service, Defense Department, or Energy Department -- in western North America. The data set was created by reformatting and merging state- and province-based ownership data layers originally acquired from diverse sources (including state GAP programs, USBLM state offices and other sources). For each original dataset 3 additional fields, "Pub_Pvt", "CA_OWN", and "SOURCE" were added and populated based on the specific ownership information contained in the source data. The original coverages were then merged based on the "CA_OWN" field. Finally, NPS, DOD, and DOE lands were selected out of...

SurfaceManagementAgency: The Surface Management Agency (SMA) Geographic Information System (GIS) dataset depicts Federal land for the United States and classifies this land by its active Federal surface managing agency. The SMA feature class covers the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa and the Virgin Islands. A Federal SMA agency refers to a Federal agency with administrative jurisdiction over the surface of Federal lands. Jurisdiction over the land is defined when the land is either: Withdrawn by some administrative or legislative action, or Acquired or Exchanged by a Federal Agency. This layer is a dynamic assembly of spatial data layers maintained at various federal...
