These data were compiled for a study that investigated the effects of drought seasonality and plant community composition in a dryland ecosystem. In 2015 U.S. Geological Survey ecologists recorded vegetation and soil moisture data in 36 experimental plots which manipulated precipitation in two plant community types. The experiment consisted of three precipitation treatments: control (ambient precipitation), cool-season drought (-66% ambient precipitation November-April), and warm-season drought (-66% ambient precipitation May-October), applied in two plant communities (perennial grasses with or without a large shrub, Ephedra viridis) over a three-year period. These data were collected from 2015 to 2022 near Canyonlands...

These data were compiled for a study that investigated the effects of drought seasonality and plant community composition on two dominant perennial grasses, Achnatherum hymenoides (C3 photosynthesis), and Pleuraphis jamesii (C4 photosynthesis), in a dryland ecosystem. In 2015 USGS Ecologists recorded vegetation and soil moisture data in 36 experimental plots which manipulated precipitation in two plant community types. The current economic collapse in the United States, which has now spread around the world, has multiple causes. One of them, the recent unprecedented run up in oil prices certainly helped destabilize our economic and financial system. The US appetite for imported oil and its gaping dependence on it has enriched our adversaries in the largest wealth transfer in human history. For the moment, the oil price bubble has burst, but it should give us great pause. For geopolitical security, climate stabilization, and economic sustainability, we must break the global addiction to oil and other fossil fuels, especially to achieve an 80 percent carbon emissions reduction by 2050. This paper examines the potential for second...

These GeoTIFF data were compiled to investigate how a new multivariate matching algorithm transfers simulated plant functional biomass of big sagebrush plant communities from 200 sites to a gridded product with 30-arcsec spatial resolution. Objectives of our study were to (1) describe how climate change will alter the biomass and composition of key plant functional types; (2) quantify the impacts of climate change on future functional type biomass and composition along climatic gradients; (3) identify if and which geographic locations will be relatively unaffected by climate change while others experience large effects; and (4) determine if there is consistency in climate change impacts on plant communities among...

This bibliography was created over several years as an aid to a variety of PHS projects as well as my work at the Glenbow Archives. It aims to include all publications and audiovisual products from the Social Sciences and Humanities. Most government documents are excluded as they are accessible through Library and Archives Canada. I would like to thank my PHS colleagues for their contributions and suggestions, including David Finch, Peter McKenzie-Brown, Clint Tippett, Peter Savage, Micky Gulless, Frank Dabbs, Aubrey Kerr and Jack Porter. I would also like to acknowledge the assistance of Calgary book dealers, Cameron Treleaven and Tom Williams and former Oilweek editor Gordon Jaremko. Historians David Breen and...
These data were compiled for the study: Divergent climate change effects on widespread dryland plant communities driven by climatic and ecohydrological gradients. The objectives of our study were to (1) describe how climate change will alter the biomass and composition of key plant functional types; (2) quantify the impacts of climate change on future functional type biomass and composition along climatic gradients; (3) identify if and which geographic locations will be relatively unaffected by climate change while others experience large effects; and (4) determine if there is consistency in climate change impacts on plant communities among a representative set of climate scenarios. These data represent geographic...
