One of the largest hydraulic mines (1.6 km2) is located in California’s Sierra Nevada within the Humbug Creek watershed and Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park (MDSHP). MDSHP’s denuded and dissected landscape is composed of weathered Eocene auriferous sediments susceptible to chronic rill and gully erosion whereas block failures and debris flows occur in more cohesive terrain. This data release includes a 1992 digital surface model (DSM), 1992 orthophoto mosaic, masked orthophoto of the study area, 1992 ground cover classification, and 1992 pruned DSM with the vegetation bias removed. Stereo-photogrammetry was used to create a 1992 digital surface model (DSM) and orthophoto mosaic from archived aerial photographs....

We analyzed variation in canopy closure around 47 Mexican spotted owl (Strix occidentalis lucida) nest sires and 47 random forest sites on the Coconino National Forest in northcentral Arizona. We mapped distinct habitat polygons on 1:15,840 color aerial photographs, assigned each polygon to one of 4 canopy-closure classes (70%), and measured the area in each canopy class within 5 concentric analysis zones with radii of 0.1, 0.4, 0.8, 1.2, and 1.6 km (delineating rings of about 4, 47, 150, 252, and 352 ha). Landscape composition differed between spotted owl nest and random sites (P 70% canopy-closure class and less area in the 70% canopy predominated Nesting spotted owls selected areas with denser canopy than randomly...

Structure from motion photogrammetry was used to contruct a digital elevation model of the Nooksack River based on images acquired on September 15, 2015. Images were acquired using a Ricoh GR II camera mounted in a near-nadir orientation in the wing of a fixed-wing aircraft, flying approximately 1,500' above ground level. Ground control consisted of 53 chalked X's on gravel surfaces, with centriod positions measured using RTK-GNSS. All photo and ground control processing was performed in Agisoft Photoscan

Digital elevation models of the SR530 Landslide, created using structure from motion photogrammetry. These surveys were performed at irregular intervals between July 1, 2014 and July 7, 2015. Due to the photogrammetric methods used to collect these surveys, there may be substantial artifacts near the edges of the surveys, in areas of vegetation, or over extents of bare water, and should be used with caution in these areas. Details of the collection and processing of these data are provides in the overview metadata file.
