Compilation of Geospatial Data (GIS) for the Mineral Industries and Related Infrastructure of the People's Republic of China

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has compiled a geodatabase containing mineral-related geospatial data for the People's Republic of China. The data can be used in analyses of the extractive fuel and nonfuel mineral industries and related economic and physical infrastructure integral for the successful operation of the mineral industries within the area of study as well as the movement of mineral products across domestic and global markets. Improving bioethanol production from sugarcane: evaluation of distillation, thermal integration and cogeneration systems

Demand for bioethanol has grown considerably over the last years. Even though Brazil has been producing ethanol from sugarcane on a large scale for decades, this industry is characterized by low energy efficiency, using a large fraction of the bagasse produced as fuel in the cogeneration system to supply the process energy requirements. The possibility of selling surplus electricity to the grid or using surplus bagasse as raw material of other processes has motivated investments on more efficient cogeneration systems and process thermal integration. This dataset shows land in the DRECP area with less than 10 percent slope. Slope (along with insolation, proximity to existing infrastructure, and land use/restrictions) dictates the siting for solar power generation. Most solar generating technologies must be sited on relatively flat ground to ensure that the solar collectors can utilize the solar resource effectively. Typically, solar facilities must be sited on land that has less than 5% slope. This dataset was created by mosaicing multiple 30 m DEMs from the NED into a single raster and deriving slope from that layer. The main purpose of this work is to assess the unavoidable increase in the cost of electricity of a generation system by the integration of the necessary renewable energy sources for power generation (RES-E) technologies in order for the European Union Member States to achieve their national RES energy target. This data release contains a comprehensive, spatially referenced database of surface-water transfer and removal events in the Pacific drainages of the United States, which include the Columbia River basin, the Puget Sound basin, the coastal drainages of Washington, Oregon, and California, and the Central Valley of California. The database also includes mean annual estimates of the water diverted at each event.
