This data release comprises nearly three decades of measurements of sandbar topography for monitoring sites along the Colorado River in Grand Canyon National Park and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The data were collected to monitor the effects of the operations of Glen Canyon Dam on sandbars, which are also recreational campsites. The data were collected by the US Geological Survey Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center in cooperation with Northern Arizona University. Funding for data collection, processing, and reporting has been provided by the Glen Canyon Dam Adaptive Management Program administered by the US Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation.
This dataset presents water withdrawal estimates, consumption estimates, and associated information for 1,122 water-using, utility scale thermoelectric power plants in the United States for 2015. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) developed models to estimate thermoelectric water use based on linked heat-and-water budgets, including thermodynamically plausible ranges of minimum and maximum withdrawal and consumption, to provide a consistent method for water-use estimation across the fleet of U.S. thermoelectric plants. Historically, thermoelectric water withdrawal and consumption has been estimated by the Department of Energy's Energy Information Administration (EIA) based on surveys of plant operator-reported data...

These data were compiled to predict hourly Glen Canyon Dam operations and hydropower impacts. The objective of our study was to estimate hydropower impacts under different future LTEMP sEIS alternatives. These data represent hourly outflow in cubic feet per second, generation in megawatt hours, and economic value of hydropower in nominal dollars. These data were created for operations at Glen Canyon Dam for October 2023 through November 2027. These data were created by the U.S. Geological Survey, Southwest Biological Science Center, Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Cetner using mathematical modeling methods.
