In 2006, the Century Commission for a Sustainable Florida called for an identification of those lands and waters in the state that are critical to the conservation of Florida’s natural resources. In response, the Florida Natural Areas Inventory, University of Florida Center for Landscape Conservation Planning, and Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission collaborated to produce CLIP - the Critical Lands and Waters Identification Project. CLIP is a GIS database of statewide conservation priorities for a broad range of natural resources, including biodiversity, landscape function, surface water, groundwater, and marine resources. CLIP is now being used to inform planning decisions by the Peninsular Florida...
What are current conditions for important park natural resources? What are the critical data and knowledge gaps? What are some of the factors that are influencing park resource conditions? Natural Resource Condition Assessments (NRCAs) evaluate and report on the above for a subset of important natural resources in national park units (hereafter, parks). Focal study resources and indicators are selected on a park-by-park basis, guided by use of structured resource assessment and reporting frameworks. Considerations include park resource setting and enabling legislation (what are this park's most important natural resources?) and presently available data and expertise (what can be evaluated at this time?). In addition...

In 2007, American Wildlands (Bozeman, MT) initiated a "Priority Linkage Assessment" (PLA) through which we have identified, cataloged and prioritized the threats to, and opportunities for, maintaining connectivity in the U.S. Northern Rockies (Montana, Idaho and Wyoming). The process involved interviewing wildlife movement and connectivity experts from state and federal agencies, and independent biologists with proven knowledge of wide-ranging wildlife. The experts were asked to use their professional and personal experience in the field (knowledge of related scientific studies and their own field research) to identify important areas of wildlife connectivity ("linkages" - defined as as a specific area through which...

The Arkansas MAV Conservation Delivery Network serves to link the fundamental planning and design functions of the Lower Mississippi Valley Joint Venture partnership with the delivery programs of conservation partners by establishing a forum for cooperative coordination, leveraging, and targeting of their actions on-the-ground. The Delivery Priority Tool for the AR-MAV CDN is an model overlay that stacks (or combines) Ducks Unlimited's Wetland Restoration Suitability Model for the MAV, the Forest Breeding-bird Reforestation Decision Support Model for the MAV created by the LMV Joint Venture, and Ducks Unlimited's Easement Protection Priority Model for the MAV. The Tool then takes the upper tier(priority values...

The REA estimates the condition of 14.2 million acres of land in southern New Mexico. It is based on states described in “ecological site descriptions” (ESDs) and expert knowledge. ESDs have been developed by the Natural Resource Conservation Service, and they are a consistent, science and expert-based resource increasingly used by land managers. It focuses on public rangelands - grasslands, shrublands, and savannas - managed by the Bureau of Land Management, and includes some other lands as well. The REA compares current condition to the expected or “reference” condition, and summarizes the vegetation, ecological processes and restorative management options of these states. Depending on these management options...

This dataset identifies Key Nongame Wildlife Areas for avian and mammalian fauna of interest in Wyoming. This layer was developed by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s Nongame Program. The 30 delineated polygons identify important areas (e.g., habitats) for Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN). We identified Key Areas by considering faunal diversity and density, uniqueness of habitat, intactness of habitat, and their importance to maintaining native SGCN fauna in Wyoming. Landownership and habitat vulnerability were only loosely considered. The attributes table of this layer contains a 4-letter species codes for avian and mammalian fauna that are expected to occur within each key area. The 4-letter species...
NPS is transforming the way park resource information is managed and delivered to parks, partners, and the public. IRMA (Integrated Resource Management Applications) is the name given to the project that has guided this transformation, and to the web portal that is its end result. View or download the IRMA project brief (.pdf). IRMA is a portfolio of tools and applications, and the beginnings of a "one-stop" for data and information on park-related resources. From IRMA you can search for, view, and download documents, reports, publications, data sets, and park species lists. You can get information on park visitor numbers, park projects, and apply for a park research permit. Park staff can navigate to certain internal...

Priority resources are the set of biological, ecological, and cultural features and ecological processes collaboratively identified as most important, and are the focus of the PFLCC’s planning and scientific efforts. These are based on the draft set of priority resources established by the first Conservation Target Working Group of the PFLCC. The priority resources established in this working group are as follows: coastal uplands, cultural, estuarine, freshwater aquatic, freshwater forested wetlands, freshwater non-forested wetlands, hardwood forested uplands, high pine and scrub, landscape connectivity, marine, pine flatwoods and dry prairie, and working lands. The majority of these priority resources are based...
