Projected land use/land cover for 2050. Spatial and temporal distributions of current and projected land-use and land-cover (LULC) changes are essential in modeling future potential carbon storage and fluxes within the nation's major ecological regions (Zhu and others, 2010). Annual raster-based maps of future LULC conditions for the years 2006 to 2100 were created based on historical LULC conditions combined with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Special Report on Emissions Scenarios (IPCC-SRES) scenario elements to develop four distinct, equally plausible outcomes. The historical LULC baseline conditions were derived from 1.) a modified version of the 1992 National Land Cover Dataset (http://www.epa.gov/mrlc/nlcd.html),...

This map shows the projected area burned in the YKL region for the current, near-term, and long-term decades, using the Alaska Frame-Based Ecosystem Model (ALFRESCO). These data are provided by Bureau of Land Management (BLM) "as is" and may contain errors or omissions. The User assumes the entire risk associated with its use of these data and bears all responsibility in determining whether these data are fit for the User's intended use. These data may not have the accuracy, resolution, completeness, timeliness, or other characteristics appropriate for applications that potential users of the data may contemplate. The User is encouraged to carefully consider the content of the metadata file associated with these...

Using GIS, the SILVIS Lab at the University of Wisconsin-Madison calculated housing and population counts at the block group level with data from the decennial U.S. Census to produce a spatially explicit dataset for the conterminous U.S. This data can help to understand where on the landscape the most and the least dense populations of people live. Housing density can be used as an indicator of urbanization and land-use intensification.

This dataset contains historical and projected dynamically downscaled climate data for the State of Alaska and surrounding regions at 20km spatial resolution and hourly temporal resolution. Select variables are also summarized into daily resolutions. This data was produced using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model (Version 3.5). We downscaled both ERA-Interim historical reanalysis data (1979 - Oct 2015) and both historical and projected runs from 2 GCM’s from the Coupled Model Inter-comparison Project 5 (CMIP5): GFDL-CM3 and NCAR-CCSM4 (historical run: 1970-2005 and RCP 8.5: 2006-2100). This dataset was updated in August, 2023 to retain useful fields of latitude and longitude geolocation grids from...

Efforts to model and predict long-term variations in climate, based on scientific understanding of climatological processes, have grown rapidly in their sophistication to the point that models can be used to develop reasonable expectations of regional climate change. This is important because our ability to assess the potential consequences of a changing climate for particular ecosystems or regions depends on having realistic expectations about the kinds and severity of change to which a region may be exposed. The fifth phase of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP5) is a collaborative climate modeling research effort coordinated by the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP).This is the most recent phase...

Developed by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), the LandCast 2050 High-Resolution Population Projection models future national-level human population densities. The models estimate the probability of a population being at a particular location, which measures where people will likely be in the future, not necessarily their places of residence. The LandCast 2050 data set is an empirically-informed spatial distribution of projected population of the contiguous U.S. for 2050 compiled on a 30” x 30” latitude/longitude grid. Population projections of county level numbers were developed using a modified version of the U.S. Census’ projection methodology-with the U.S. Census’ official projection as the benchmark....

This data layer was created by subtracting is2050rclss (representing projections for year 2050 under a2) from is2010reclss (representing projections for year 2010) to create a difference in percent impervious surface layer. Negative values represent an increase in percentage by 1, 2, or 3 levels, 0 indicates no change, and positive values represent a decrease in impervious layers by 1 or 2 levels. Levels refer to the values, 1-7, of is2050rclss and is2010reclss created by reclassifying the source rasters such that 0%=1, 0.01-9.5%=2, 9.5-19%=3, 19-29%=4, 29-38%=5, 38-48%=6, 48-58%=7. Description from original file: ICLUS v1.3 Estimated Percent Impervious Suface for the Conterminous USA. Pixel values are projected...
