The Wild Areas of the Northern Appalachian/Acadian ecoregion are those areas with a Human Footprint score equal to or less that 10 (HF <= 10). These are the 10% wildest, or least human influenced places in the ecoregion. The Human Footprint (HF) of the Northern Appalachian/Acadian ecoregion measures the extent and relative intensity of human influence on terrestrial ecosystems at a resolution of 90 m using best available data sets on human settlement (population density, dwelling density, urban areas), access (roads, rail lines), landscape transformation (landuse/landcover, dams, mines, watersheds), and electrical power infrastructure (utility corridors). The Human Footprint is calculated by assigning Human Influence...

This map shows all the places conservation elements. Some of the places included exhibit high biodiversity or ecological and cultural value. This map also shows other managed areas from the Protected Areas Database, as well as those that are excluded. Associated input datasets are also included; they relate to biodiversity, special areas, and development. These data are provided by Bureau of Land Management (BLM) "as is" and may contain errors or omissions. The User assumes the entire risk associated with its use of these data and bears all responsibility in determining whether these data are fit for the User's intended use. These data may not have the accuracy, resolution, completeness, timeliness, or other characteristics...

The purpose of the Coral Reef Evaluation and Monitoring Project (CREMP) is to monitor the status and trends of selected reefs in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary(FKNMS). CREMP assessments have been conducted annually at fixed sites since 1996 and data collected provides information on the temporal changes in benthic cover and diversity of stony corals and associated marine flora and fauna. The core field methods continue to be underwater videography and timed coral species inventories. Findings presented in this report include data from 109 stations at 37 sites sampled from 1996 through 2008 in the Florida Keys and 1999 through 2008 in the Dry Tortugas. The report describes the annual differences (between...

Offshore exploration and production of oil and gas have increased significantly in the last decade. Computer models are used in emergency response, contingency planning, and impact assessment to simulate the behavior of oil and gas if accidentally released from a well, pipeline, or ship. There are two types of models used for this purpose-models that have both plume dynamics stage and the advection diffusion stage and models that are of simplified nature that has only the advection diffusion stage. This paper compares both types of models and shows what information are similar and what are different and under what conditions. The paper also examines in detail about different criteria that can be used as the transition...

In 1998, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's (FWC) Fisheries Independent Monitoring (FIM) program began a long-term monitoring effort of key reef fish populations in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. This effort was aimed at evaluating the relative abundance, size structure, and habitat utilization of specific reef fish species that are targeted by commercial and recreational fisheries.; Smith,S.G., et al. 2011,Multispecies survey design for assessing reef-fish stocks, spatially explicit management performance, and ecosystem condition. The Forests to Faucets project uses a GIS to model and map the land areas across the United States that are most important to surface drinking water sources, as well as to identify forested areas important to the protection of drinking water and areas where drinking water supplies might be threatened by development, insects and diseases, and wildland fire. The results of this assessment provide information that can identify areas of interest for protecting surface drinking water quality. The spatial dataset can be incorporated into broad-scale planning and can help identify areas for further local analysis. In addition it can be incorporated into existing decision support tools that currently lack spatial data on...
The purpose of the pilot project is to trial different methods and vendors of wind power forecasting to determine the best approach to forecasting wind power in Alberta in the future. Three vendors were chosen with global forecasting experience; AWS Truewind (New York), energy & meteo systems (Germany), and WEPROG (Denmark). Each vendor will forecast for 12 geographically dispersed wind power facilities for a year (May 07 to May 08) providing a forecast covering the next 48 hours refreshed hourly. ORTECH Power was chosen to perform the quantitative analysis of the results analyzing methods, timeframes and geographical locations. Phoenix Engineering was chosen to collect all the necessary meteorological data required...

This data set represents the Wildlife Habitat Management Area boundaries. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department, under the direction of the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission, administers lands and public easement areas that are home to vast numbers of fish and wildlife. The department maintains approximately 413,000 acres of land under deed, lease or by agreement and continually strives to acquire new access areas. These areas include access to nearly 225 miles of streams, over 21,000 lake surface areas, and more than 148 miles of road right-of-ways. Management of these lands demonstrates our state's commitment to its precious wildlife heritage and those people who seek to enjoy our wildlife and wild lands. Wyoming's...
