The sustainability of coastal wetlands largely hinges on their ability to accrue elevation capital at a rate that equals or exceeds relative sea-level rise. A better understanding of these processes is needed to accurately assess the sustainability of these landscapes, and to predict their response to restoration measures such as sediment delivery through river diversions.

This dataset contains vertical profiles of soil bulk density, percent organic matter, percent total carbon and cesium-137 activity from the surface down to 50-60 cm deep at 25 marsh locations across Breton Sound basin, Louisiana. These data will provide information related to rates of vertical accretion, organic and mineral accumulation and carbon burial in wetland soils across a large portion of the Mississippi River delta plain.
The spatial distribution of roots of two alien grasses, Bromus tectorum and Poa pratensis, grown singly and in a mixture, was examined using a double-labelling radioisotope technique. Interactions between the root systems of these plants led to a restricted B. tectorum rooting volume in P. pratensis neighborhoods @?30-d-old. The roots of B. tectorum failed to develop laterally. The altered B. tectorum root systems may contribute to its inability to persist in established P. pratensis swards. Published in Ecology, volume 63, issue 3, on pages 640 - 646, in 1982.

This data release contains data from cores collected in marshes and in sediments under invasive Brazilian waterweed (Egeria densa Planchon) in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta of California during the spring of 2018. Data are provided in two text files in comma separated columns. The first Core_Sites_Details.txt contains core site location, collection dates, and naming information. The second file, Core_Section_Analyses.txt contains % organic carbon, % inorganic sediment, bulk density data for each 2-cm section of six peat cores collected in marshes and six sediment cores collected under patches of Brazilian waterweed. Additionally, the second file contains the radioisotope values (137Cs and 210Pb) for each of the...
