This laser ablation ICPMS U-Pb zircon data set supports stratigraphic, biostratigraphic and age interpretations of the of the fossil-plant-bearing El Gameño Formation of west-central Sonora, Mexico and the potentially age-correlative fossil-plant-bearing Santa Clara and Coyote formations of southeastern Sonora, Mexico. The zircon data provides minimum age constraints (maximum depositional ages) for Late Triassic to Jurassic sedimentary rocks that don’t have precisely known absolute ages.
This database contains a comprehensive inventory of geologic (coral, coral reef, limestone, and sediment) cores and samples collected, analyzed, published, and/or archived by, or in collaboration with, the U.S. Geological Survey St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center (USGS SPCMSC). From 2017-2019, framework metallogenic studies were completed in the eastern Yukon-Tanana upland in eastern Alaska. Numerous previously undated plutons known or suspected to contain components of porphyry, epithermal, and intrusion-related gold systems and associated deposit types were sampled for age and zircon trace element determinations between the Black Mountain area and the Yukon border, north of the Tanana River and south of the Yukon River. A collection of 54 samples were collected by Douglas Kreiner (USGS, Alaska Science Center). Zircon grains were separated from each sample. The samples were examined by U-Pb analysis by laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) in a USGS laboratory...

This report summarizes the age-dating results from two alluvial fan surfaces (map units Qyf2 and Qyf3) that are broken by strands of the Cucamonga Fault, in southern California, at Day Canyon and Etiwanda Canyon. Within this report are detailed the methodology used to collect samples of rock and sediment, determine concentrations of cosmogenic beryllium-10 in purified quartz isolated from the samples, and use those nuclide concentrations to calculate surface exposure ages. This report should be used as the supplementary materials for any publication(s) that uses the nuclide concentrations and/or ages reported herein. This version supersedes all previous age estimates and reports.
This dataset accompanies the proposed publication, 'Geochronology and geochemistry of igneous and metasedimentary rocks of northeast Afghanistan: A refinement of the timing and origin of crustal terranes', which focuses on refining the geochronology and geochemistry of these rocks during multiple time periods of accretion, regional metamorphism, and magmatic activity. The analyses were performed from September 2006 to August 2014.
This dataset accompanies planned publication titled "The Far-Field imprint of the LPIA, its demise, and the onset of a dust-house climate across the Eastern Shelf of the Permian Basin". Zircon ages presented in this dataset are from rocks collected across the eastern margin of the Permian Basin, Texas. The U-Pb zircon ages are used to investigate changes in provenance in this region as a result of a changing hydroclimate and tectonics. Samples were collected from this region by Neil Griffis and Neil Tabor between March 2019 and April 2021. The data were collected at the University of California, Davis and the University of Texas, Austin between April 2019 and August 2021.

Elemental compositions are reported for the fine fraction of surface sediments from Bellingham Bay (June 2017 and March 2019) and in the fine fraction of streambank sediment from the Nooksack River (September 2017, March 2019, September 2019), Squalicum Creek (March and September 2019), Whatcom Creek (March and September 2019), and Padden Creek (March and September 2019). Major oxide percentages are reported in Nooksack River fine sediment collected in September 2017. Ancillary data for sediment collected during 2017 and 2019 from Bellingham Bay, Nooksack River, and small creeks include: percent weights of gravel, sand, and fines; total organic carbon content (TOC); carbonate content (CaCO3); ratios of stable carbon...

This dataset accompanies planned publication 'Unmixing multiple metamorphic muscovite age populations with powder X-ray diffraction and 40Ar/39Ar analysis'. The 40Ar/39Ar and electron microprobe data are from samples adjacent to a lower greenschist facies shear zone in western New Hampshire. The geochronology coupled with the electron microprobe data provide a petrochronologic framework for the rocks studied in the manuscript. Sample collection was supervised by Ryan McAleer, Gregory Walsh, and Peter Valley of the USGS.

Coastal wetlands in Tampa Bay, Florida, are important ecosystems that deliver a variety of ecosystem services. Key to ecosystem functioning is wetland response to sea-level rise through accumulation of mineral and organic sediment. The organic sediment within coastal wetlands is composed of carbon sequestered over the time scale of the wetland’s existence. This study was conducted to provide information on soil accretion and carbon storage rates across a variety of coastal ecosystems that was utilized in the Tampa Bay Blue Carbon Assessment (ESA, 2017; linkage below). Ten sediment cores were collected from six Tampa Bay wetland sites in October 2015 (maximum core length 40 centimeters). Three main vegetation types...

The accretion history of fringing salt marshes in Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island, was reconstructed from sediment cores. Age models, based on excess lead-210 and cesium-137 radionuclide analysis, were constructed to evaluate how vertical accretion and carbon burial rates have changed during the past century. The Constant Rate of Supply (CRS) age model was used to date six cores collected from three salt marshes. Both vertical accretion rates and carbon burial increased from 1900 to 2016, the year the data were collected. Cores were up to 90 cm in length with dry bulk density ranging from 0.07 to 3.08 grams per cubic centimeter and carbon content 0.71 % to 33.58 %.

Zircon grains separated from altered ash beds were analyzed to better understand the ages of the beds. Isotopic analyses for U-Pb geochronology and trace element geochemistry were performed simultaneously by secondary ion mass spectrometry using the Stanford-USGS SHRIMP-RG ion microprobe housed at Stanford University, USA. Analyses followed the analytical protocol and data acquisition conditions described by Watts et al. (2016). These data are reported in this release.

This dataset accompanies planned publication 'Gondwanan inheritance on the building of the western Central Andes (Domeyko Range, Chile): Structural and thermochronological approach (U-Pb and 40Ar-39Ar)'. The Ar/Ar data is for samples that record the sedimentation of the area. The geochronology provides time constraints for the sedimentation studied in the manuscript. Samples were collected from the Domeyko Range by Mauricio Espinoza (University of Concepcion, Chile), who sent them to the USGS Denver Argon Geochronology Laboratory for Ar/Ar analysis.

This data release codifies and attributes explanatory factors that could potentially impact groundwater quality at 142 groundwater sites (wells or developed springs) used for domestic water supply and 310 groundwater sites used for public water supply in the northern Sierra Nevada foothills. Water quality from domestic groundwater sites was assessed as part of the California State Water Resources Control Board’s Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment (GAMA) program in 2015-2017. Domestic groundwater sites from two of the U.S. Geological Survey’s Priority Basin Project Shallow Aquifer Assessment study units are attributed here: The Yuba-Bear Watersheds (YBW) study unit (sampled in 2015-2016) and the American-Cosumnes-Mokelumne...
Fine-grained sediment was collected from the banks of Napa River, Sonoma Creek, and tributaries in March 2018 and from shallow nearshore areas of the northern reach of San Francisco Bay in April 2018. Bulk sediment was dated using activities of short-lived cosmogenic radionuclides (beryllium-7, cesium-137, and lead-210). Contents of potentially toxic metals and source-rock-indicative elements, including rare earth elements, were quantified in the fine fraction of sediment (particles less than 0.063 mm diameter). Ratios of stable carbon-13/carbon-12 isotopes and total carbon to total nitrogen were determined in sedimentary organic matter.
