The dataset consists of two csv files one for adult snakes and one for captive-reared juvenile snakes. The data contains start times (when snakes entered the study) and end times (when snakes died or were censored from the study) for survival analysis. The data also contains general information about the individual snakes (id, snout-vent length, treatment group, whether or not they were translocated), sex (juveniles only since adults were all female), surface activity (and data needed to calculate surface activity), and average distance moved between telemetry resighting. The above information was used as covariates in the survival models. These data support the following publication: Nguyen, A.M., Todd, B.D....

This dataset contains the results from 80 visual encounter surveys at two wetlands in Palmetto Island State Park, Vermillion Parish, Louisiana from August 2015 to April 2019. These surveys mainly targeted snakes but small turtles and anoles were also opportunistically captured. Captured animals were swabbed to determine the prevalence of Ophidiomyces ophiodiicola, the causative agent of Snake Fungal Disease. Physical measurements were taken on all captured individuals. This dataset also includes environmental data such as temperature, water level, and humidity at the study site.

These data represent the interaction between two male individuals of California Kingsnakes in Apache Junction, northern Pinal County, Arizona. The interaction was observed, recorded on video, and documented. The dataset is a time series description of the interaction and behaviors of two male California Kingsnakes (Lampropeltis californiae; the two individuals are labeled "B" and "D" for purposes of description) which was used to describe aspects of the interaction in the accompanying publication. Second-by second breakdown of the video sequence provided the "time-stamped" descriptions contained in the data table. These data support the journal article "Lampropeltis californiae (California Kingsnake) behavior, male...

These data were compiled to evaluate reproductive output of Agassiz's desert tortoises (Gopherus agassizzi) in relation to environmental and individual-level variables. We collected data from four study sites in the Sonoran Desert of California, including two separate populations within Joshua Tree National Park, one population located on the northern versant of the Orocopia Mountains, and one population located at the extreme western end of the Coachella Valley. These data represent eight reproductive seasons that spanned over 20 years (1997-2000, 2015-2018). These data were compiled and added to a larger database with additional records collected by other scientists from eight other study sites in order to detect...

There are two datasets included in this entry. The diurnal dataset contains 28 columns of data collected during transects surveys. The nocturnal dataset contains 52 columns. We randomly select 56 sites, each 50 m in length, from 37,968 m of transects spanning the island that were originally created for bird surveys in 1982 through the cooperative efforts of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Department of Natural Resources of CNMI, and the U.S. Forest Service. For diurnal surveys, 56 transects were surveyed twice per day for 1–3 consecutive days resulting in six survey occasions. For nocturnal surveys, we surveyed 51 of the 56 transects 4 times per night for 1–3 consecutive nights resulting in 12 survey occasions....

Tagging information, including migration and foraging behavioral data, for female reproductive loggerhead marine turtles (Caretta caretta) that were satellite tagged at nesting beaches at Gulf Shores (Alabama [AL]), Dry Tortugas National Park (DRTO, Florida [FL]), and Everglades National Park (ENP, FL) from 2011–2019. Variables include the tagging date, tagging site, the curved carapace length-notch (CCL-n, cm), the size category (≤ 87 cm CCL-n or > 87 cm CCL-n), and the first and last date of satellite tracking. Migration and foraging behavioral data include the first and last migration dates, the number (no) of days in migration mode, the length (distance) of the migration path distance (km), the mean depth along...

The files in this data release are the processed DNA consensus sequence alignment files for the chelonid herpesvirus 5 (ChHV-5) genome plus 66 open reading frames representing protien-coding genes. DNA was extracted from tumor biopsies from green sea turtles (Chelonias mydas) with fibropapillomatosis sampled from Florida and Hawaii coastal waters. We used high-throughput short-read sequencing (Illumina MiSeq and Ion Torrent Personal Genome Machine) of long-range PCR products amplified from tumor tissue using primers designed from the single available ChHV5 reference genome from a Hawaii green sea turtle. The raw sequence data is available at the NCBI Sequence Read Archive under bioproject number PRJNA360405, including...

Remote camera stations were set up between 2016 and 2019 to document the occurrence of mesocarnivores and other wildlife in five Klamath Monitoring Network Parks (Crater Lake National Park, Lassen Volcanic National Park, Lava Beds National Monument, Oregon Caves National Monument and Whiskeytown National Recreation Area). The primary goal was to document the distribution of three mesocarnivore species of conservation concern: the Pacific fisher (Pekania pennanti), Pacific marten (Martes caurina) and the Sierra Nevada red fox (Vulpes vulpes necator). Sixty species were identified across all the parks. Pacific fisher were detected in Oregon Caves National Monument and Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. Pacific...

Invasive Argentine Black and White Tegu lizards (Salvator merianae) are trapped with chicken eggs when populations are discovered in the United States. Unfortunately, non-targeted mammals are trapped in tegu lizard traps which reduces trap efficacy. We evaluated if non-target mammal captures could be reduced by coating the chicken eggs with a known irritant to mammals (capsaicin) while maintaining a highly desired bait for tegu lizards. The data set quantifies trap disturbance by non-targets species and efficacy of capsaicin coated eggs as bait in live traps set for Argentine Black and White Tegu lizards (Salvatore merianae). The dataset consists of three live trapping experiments to test if 1) trap disturbance...

Thermal data collected from iButton temperature loggers implanted into research animals (Argentine giant tegus) and in their surrounding environment. Tegus undergo winter dormancy (hibernation) to cope with colder temperatures, and we studied the thermal habits of wild tegus within their invaded range in southern Florida, USA. We used radiotelemetry and trail cameras to verify dates of above-ground behaviors (active, basking, non-hibernating) and used temperature dataloggers to monitor surface (2 sun-exposed [Te] and 1 shaded [Ts]), 3 ambient (Ta), 19 subsurface ground (Th), and 22 internal body (Tb) temperatures of a population of free-ranging tegus over several seasons (46 weeks from 2015-2016). We recorded tegu...
