This geodatabse set contains the attributes and indicators associated with aquatic EI were categorized by size, landscape context, and conditionset in the Northwestern Plains Ecoregion. The data for the Aquatic EI used information from the Aquatic Threat analysis performed by the Missouri River Assesment Program (MoRAP). The MoRAP aquatic threat analysis contains information about each threat analysis attribute, indicator and metric arbitrarily quantified (1,2,3) for the 6th level Hydrological Unit (HUC12). These attributes were calculated for the entire HUC 12, the streams within the HUC 12, or the riparian corridor within the HUC 12. For this analysis MoRAP used arbitrary values were assigned good =3, fair =2...

This dataset represents the location and class density of potential annual grass risk within the Central Great Basin and Mojave Basin Ecoregion for the 2010 time period. This model represent a composite of multiple inductive (Maximum Entropy) models of varying annual grass cover using non-spectral landscape variables. Input Variables: elevation, aspect, distance to fire, geology, distance to hydric soils, distance to intermitant streams, landform, ombrotype, distance to perrenial streams, soil pH, density of primary roads, density of secondary/local roads, percent sandy soil, slope, thermotype. Classification of Model 0-No/Low Risk 1- < 5% Cover Risk 2- 5%-15% Cover Risk 3 - 15%-25% Cover Risk 4 - 25%-45% Cover...

To support researchers and stakeholders from multiple disciplines, agencies, institutions, entities in the integration and archiving of data related to restoration of watersheds in southeast Arizona.
We developed habitat suitability models for occurrence of three invasive riparian woody plant taxa of concern to Department of Interior land management agencies, as well as for three dominant native riparian woody taxa. Study taxa were non-native tamarisk (saltcedar; Tamarix ramosissima, Tamarix chinensis), Russian olive (Elaeagnus angustifolia) and Siberian elm (Ulmus pumila) and native plains/Fremont cottonwood (Populus deltoides ssp. monilifera and ssp. wislizenii, Populus fremontii), narrowleaf cottonwood (Populus angustifolia), and black cottonwood (Populus balsamifera ssp. trichocarpa and ssp. balsamifera). We generally followed the modeling workflow developed in Young et al. 2020. We developed models using...

Northern Arizona University will study how forest treatment practices and climate change may impact water balance across the Kaibab Plateau and critical habitats in lower elevations of the Grand Canyon. The project will include use of a forest landscape simulation model to examine how fuel treatments and prescribed burning will affect the resilience of forest ecosystems. The project will also address whether those activities would benefit the conservation of downstream riparian habitat by mitigating anticipated changes in the stream flow and water quality. The model will assist managers in developing, adaptation strategies for the conservation of riparian habitats by testing a range of realistic fuel treatment and...

The rapidly increasing demands being placed on our deserts points to the urgent need for a connectivity assessment that spans multiple jurisdictional boundaries and promotes the partnerships needed to implement a regional conservation strategy for this diverse and striking landscape. The vast scale of renewable energy developments proposed in the California deserts are likely to impact habitat connectivity, alter essential ecosystem functions, and eliminate opportunities for species to shift their ranges in response to climate change. The potential impacts of energy development on our existing public lands, specifically to wildlife and their ability to move across the landscape, are enormous. The primary goal of...

Arizona's Comprehensive Wildlife Conservation Strategy, or CWCS, was accepted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's National Acceptance Advisory Team in 2006. It was the culmination of a 2-year effort during which the Arizona Game and Fish Department solicited input from numerous experts, resource professionals, federal and state agencies, sportsmen groups, conservation organizations, Native American tribes, recreational groups, local governments, and private citizens and integrated those ideas and concerns into a single, comprehensive vision for managing Arizona’s fish, wildlife, and wildlife habitats over the next ten years. In the intervening five years, Arizona and its’ wildlife have seen many changes. To...

As the third largest federal land manager in the United States (Keystone Center 1996a), the Department of Defense (DoD) mandates the conservation and wise management of the natural resources on military installations. To this end, DoD policy directs each Army installation to produce an Integrated Natural Resource Management Plan (INRMP), the purpose of which is to “ensure that natural resource conservation measures and Army activities on mission land are integrated and consistent with federal stewardship requirements” (Army Goals and Implementing Guidance for Natural Resource Planning Level Surveys and Integrated Natural Resource Management Plans, 21 March 1997). The basic goal of this INRMP is to support and sustain...

REAs synthesize the best available information about resource conditions and trends within an ecoregion. They highlight and map areas of high ecological value, including important wildlife habitats and corridors, and gauge their potential risks from climate change, wildfires, invasive species, energy development, and urban growth. REAs also map areas that have high energy development potential, and relatively low ecological value, which could be best-suited for siting future energy development. In addition, REAs establish landscape-scale baseline ecological data to gauge the effect and effectiveness of future management actions. The Mojave Basin and Range REA was initiated in July 2010. It has been completed and...

These heatmaps show a top 3 stressor or service, as ranked by participants, and the concentration of participants who reported as working in each municipality or county who also voted for that stressor or service across the landscape. This map shows the percentage of participants from each county and municipality who ranked Pollution of Streams from mining and energy development as a top 3 ecosystem stressor in the Riparian Habitat Fragmentation and Lossl category in their region. Symbology represents the percentage of participants with 0% = dark green, 0.0001 % - 24.99% = light green, 25% - 49.99% = yellow, 50% - 74.99% = orange, 75% - 100% = red. All counties and municipalities identified by participants as areas...
