Conservation Biology Institute selected closed USFS roads from the "Roads with Core Attributes" dataset based on the following criteria:Roaded areas for closed roads were determined based on the NFS definition:"ROUTE_STATUS" = 'EX - EXISTING' AND "JURISDICTION" = 'FS - FOREST SERVICE' AND "SYSTEM" = 'NFSR - NATIONAL FOREST SYSTEM ROAD' AND ("OPER_MAINT_LEVEL" = '1 - BASIC CUSTODIAL CARE (CLOSED)')Original metadata: A route feature stores the spatial locations (geography) of the road. These feature classes have an (M) value or measure on their vertices. A route system depicts all roads within or in close proximity to an administrative unit. A road is a motor vehicle travel way over 50 inches wide, unless classified...

This dataset depicts roads built on the Tongass National Forest prior to 1960. This dataset is part of a larger analysis of road building and timber harvest on the Tongass National Forest, compiled for the report Scientific Basis for Roadless Area Conservation (http://www.consbio.org/cbi/projects/show.php?page=roadless/roadless.htm), pp 70-73. Road segments from a US Forest Service roads layer were attributed to the most likely decade in which the road was built, as determined by an analysis of connectivity to clearcuts on the Tongass National Forest from that decade. It was assumed that following 1960, harvests required access to mills or extraction sites, and thus roads connecting to them were most likely built...

This dataset collects all of the public roads of Gabon. These data were digitized from a 1:200,000 topographic map. This is the work of the Forest and Environment Project (PFE 1999/2000) and the National Institute of Cartographie...

This dataset depicts inventoried and proposed areas on National Forests in Southern California. This dataset includes areas not represented in the USFS Inventoried Roadless Areas dataset for the US, due to pending judicial decisions regarding designatino of roadless areas. This dataset was developed during the 2005 Forest Planning Revision process. This is an update of the previous RARE II information, which now is considered a historical record for the affected forests.

Image of lenth of roads per 1 km-square pixel, derived from streets and roads layers of Census Bureau TIGER 98 files. Pixel values are sum lengths of streets and major roads (including interstate highways) in units of meters. For more information about the TIGER files see the following url: http://www.census.gov/geo/www/tiger/

Roads and freeways in San Diego County to be used for the San Diego Conservation project. These are a selection of roads that were relevant as landmarks for this projects and do NOT include all roads in San Diego County. These data were extracted from data downloaded from the SANDAG website.

This dataset contains all National Forest Inventoried Roadless Areas (IRAs) for the lower 48 states, including Puerto Rico. Alaska is maintained separately. The IRA data was originally submitted to GSTC by all national forests through their Regional Offices for the Forest Service's Roadless Area Conservation Initiative. The data was consolidated at the GSTC and used in the Draft Environment Impact Statement. Between the draft and final stages of the Environmental Impact Statement, the data was updated by the forests to reflect any corrections to Inventoried Roadless Areas that were based on existing forest plans and administrative record. The data was also supplemented to include Special Designated Area information...

Operable roads were buffered by 800ft by Conservation Biology Institute (CBI).Operable roads were selected by CBI from the "Roads with Core Attributes" dataset based on the following criteria:Roaded areas for operable roads were determined based on Sheila Spores’ definition: Route status = existing Jurisdiction = forest service System = NFSR Oper_Maint_Level of “2” and above, which excludes roads assigned “ 1 – Basic Custodial Care (Closed)”.Original metadata: A route feature stores the spatial locations (geography) of the road. These feature classes have an (M) value or measure on their vertices. A route system depicts all roads within or in close proximity to an administrative unit. A road is a motor...

This dataset represents the estimated number of road and stream crossings per watershed compiled by the Conservation Biology Institute for the report "A GIS-based model for assessing conservation focal areas for the redwood ecosystem." For more details, see the full report at http://consbio.org/products/reports/a-gis-based-model-for-assessing-conservation-focal-areas-for-the-redwood-ecoregion. We are certain that not all existing roads and streams were accounted for on the U.S. Geological Survey 7.5 minute quadrangle products we had access to (both electronic and paper form). Dates on these quadrangles covered approximately a 30year time span (late 1960s to late 1990s) and some were still in their provisional state....

This dataset depicts roads of Belize. According to Hipolito Contreras of the Belize Land Information Centre (personal communication 2005), the roads of Belize coverage is one of a few base layers developed by the U.K. Directorate of Overseas Surveys (DOS), based on the 1:50,000 OS topographic sheets and deposited directly at the Land Information Centre (LIC) at its inception in 1992. The version presented here - was made public through release of this dataset to the CCAD - the Central American Commission on Environment & Development.

The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. The All Roads Shapefile includes all features within the MTDB Super Class "Road/Path Features" distinguished where the MAF/TIGER Feature Classification Code (MTFCC) for the feature in MTDB that begins with "S". This includes...

This data set portrays the major roads in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The file was produced by joining the individual State roads layers from the 1:2,000,000-scale Digital Line Graph (DLG) data produced by the USGS. This is a revised version of the March 1999 data set.
