The glacial aquifer system of the United States encompasses all or parts of 25 states and is the most widely used supply of drinking water in the Nation (Maupin and Barber, 2005; Maupin and Arnold, 2010). A series of seven raster data sets were derived from a database of water-well drillers' records that was compiled in partial fulfillment of the goals of the U.S. Geological Survey’s Groundwater Availability and Use assessment program (U.S. Geological Survey, 2002). They contain hydrogeologic information for areas of the U.S. that are north of the southern limit of Pleistocene glaciation, including the total thickness of glacial deposits, thickness of coarse-grained sediment within the glacial deposits, specific-capacity...

The State of Alaska's Strategic and Critical Minerals (SCM) Assessment project, a State-funded Capital Improvement Project (CIP), is designed to evaluate Alaska's statewide potential for SCM resources. The SCM Assessment is being implemented by the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS), and involves obtaining new airborne-geophysical, geological, and geochemical data. For the geochemical part of the SCM Assessment, thousands of historical geochemical samples from DGGS, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and U.S. Bureau of Mines archives are being reanalyzed by DGGS using modern, quantitative, geochemical-analytical methods. The objective is to update the statewide geochemical database to more clearly...

This dataset depicts relative erosion rate derived for all land draining above the Mesoamerican reef. It is a function of slope, land cover type, precipitation and soil type. The indicators developed by the Reefs at Risk in the Caribbean project enable detailed comparative analyses of threats on many scales. The Reefs at Risk indicators are a simplification of human activities and complex natural processes. This data set was derived at the World Resources Institute for input to the sedimentation and pollution from watershed based sources threat analysis. Agriculture, though important to economic development and food security, is a source of increased sediment, nutrient, and pesticide runoff. Threats from sedimentation...

Using basins derived from a hydrologically-corrected 30m resolution DEM as a unit for summary statistics, we provide a series of indicators focused on land-based sources of threat within the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. This includes indicators of a) the relative vulnerability of the land to erosion (based on slope, precipitation and soil erodibility); b) the relative erosion potential (REP) of the land, based on the relative vulnerability of the land, coupled with the current land cover type; c) the sediment delivery rate for each basin (percentage of eroded which reaches the river mouth); d) estimated sediment delivery for the basin, given current land use;

This dataset contains geochemical data for unconsolidated sediments (stream sediments, lake sediments, etc.) collected by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) personnel and analyzed in the analytical laboratories of the Geologic Division of the USGS. These data represent analyses of sediment samples collected in support of various USGS programs. The data were originally entered into the in-house Rock Analysis Storage System (RASS) database which was used by the Geologic Division from the early-1970's through the late-1980's to archive geochemical data. An unpublished CD-ROM was developed in 1996 that contains the RASS data in GSSEARCH format. That CD was used to generate this data set.

This Benthic Invertebrate Community Analysis dataset, a conceptual subgroup of the Lake Erie Ecological Investigations (LEEI) dataset, focuses on the benthic invertebrates sampled at Areas of Concern (AOCs) on Lake Erie. Per the Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP), the invertebrate samples were taken from sediments remaining from the sediment analysis. Identification of the invertebrates was completed by the same invertebrate taxonomist for both the 1998-2000 evaluation and 1986-87 historical evaluation (Smith et al. 1994) for increased consistency. Oligochaetes were identified to species if possible, chironomids were identified to genus, as adult specimens are needed for specific identification, and other taxa...

This metadata record documents 11 comma delimited tables representing the amount of reported best management practice (BMP) implementation for the years from 1985 to 2014 at three geographic scales: county or land-river modeling segment, River Input Monitoring (RIM) station drainage areas, and the entire Chesapeake Bay Watershed (CBWS). Data originated from the Chesapeake Bay Watershed jurisdictions including Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Delaware, New York, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Data were reported to the Chesapeake Bay Program for an annual review of progress toward meeting nitrogen, phosphorus, and sediment reduction goals.

These data contain concentrations of major and trace elements in quality-assurance samples.These are the machine-readable versions of Tables 2–5 from the U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report, Distribution of Mining Related Trace Elements in Streambed and Floodplain Sediment along the Middle Big River and Tributaries in the Southeast Missouri Barite District, 2012-15 (Smith and Schumacher, 2018). Table_2 contains concentrations of major and trace elements in regular and replicate streambed-sediment samples in samples BR-02 and BR-04. Each sample was sieved and analyzed for concentrations within the less than 2-, less than 0.250-, and less than 0.063-mm size fraction. Averaged relative percent...

A vented conductivity, temperature and depth sensor (CTD, InSitu Aqua Troll) was installed at site NR1 (N 47° 04’ 16.1”/W 122° 42’ 15.5”) and continuously measured water temperature, water depth, specific conductance, and salinity at 15-minute intervals from February 11, 2016 to July 18, 2016 (159 days). The sensor was replaced with a vented water-level logger (InSitu Level Troll) on July 19, 2016 and deployed until March 19, 2018 (608 days). The site is tidally influenced and located approximately 4.1 km upstream from the mouth of the Nisqually River and within the tidal prism. The elevation (NAVD88) of the top of the deployment pipe was surveyed by RTN-GPS. Tape-down measurements from the top of the pipe to the...
