The Cache Creek Settling Basin (CCSB) is a 13.3 km2 levee-bounded sediment retention basin located at the modern terminus of Cache Creek near the eastern boundary of Yolo County, approximately two miles NE of Woodland, California. The Cache Creek Settling Basin was constructed in 1937 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to trap suspended sediment from the upper Cache Creek watershed during high-flow events, with the purpose of preserving the floodway capacity of the Yolo Bypass, a larger leveed floodway located downstream. This dataset includes subsamples from sediment cores and shallow streambank sediment collected from the Sacramento River watershed. Sediment cores were collected in the Cache Creek Settling Basin...

This metadata record documents 2 comma delimited tables that support the journal article "Bank-derived material dominates fluvial sediment in a suburban Chesapeake Bay watershed" by Cashman and others, in review. They consist of a source and target dataset.

Data include total nitrogen and carbon, carbon species, total metal, and particle-size analyses of soft streambed from the Black Creek basin, Allen County, Indiana that was collected in July 2019. These data will be used in a sediment-source mixing model in order to attribute the proportional contribution of individual sources to suspended sediment in the basin. Source samples were identified as one of five land-cover types: cropland (corn, soybean, hay, and wheat; sites included a mix of conventional and conservation tillage), active horse pasture, roads, preserved forest, and streambanks along agricultural and non-agricultural channels. Source data were collected in August 2017 (Williamson and others, 2020). Williamson,...

This data release includes geochemical and fallout radionuclide data for suspended sediments and potential sediment source types for the Loutsenhizer Arroyo and Sunflower Drain watersheds in western Colorado. Suspended sediments were collected by passive samplers deployed in the stream channel of the watershed outlets during four study periods between August 2018 and August 2019. Potential sediment source type samples were collected in the watersheds in duplicate using compositing techniques that targeted the top 5 centimeters of soil. The four potential sediment source-types were: agricultural fields, rangeland, arroyo walls, and streambanks. Source type samples were wet sieved to less than (<) 63 microns (µm)...

These data were compiled from sampling pre-dam flood terraces and sand bar deposits of the Colorado River in Glen Canyon between Glen Canyon Dam and the Paria River confluence. This includes sand deposits from the 2008, 2012, 2013 and 2014 high flow experiments (HFE) in Marble Canyon. Sand sources from these locations were sampled in September/October of 2013 and 2014. Also, samples of suspended sediment from a selection of Paria River flash floods that preceded the 2013 and 2014 high flow experiments were collected. The suspended sediment samples were wet sieved to separate the <63-micron fraction at the Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center. A Niton XL3-t 955 portable XRF was used to measure the elemental...
