A series of linear regression models were developed and calibrated for two Lower Minnesota River sites. The linear regression models were either calibrated using acoustic or streamflow data to estimate suspended-sediment or sand concentration data. Data were collected during calendar years 2012 through 2019. The estimates of suspended-sediment and concentrations from the linear regression were used to calculate loads. The calibrated models were used to improve understanding of sediment and sand transport processes and increase accuracy of estimating sediment and sand concentrations and loads for the Lower Minnesota River, as part of the associated report, U.S. Geological Survey Open File Report 2021–1005 (https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr20211005).

The 'Channel Width' shapefile data are measurements of the active channel width of the Green River at 1-km intervals in and near Canyonlands National Park, Utah. The active channel was defined as the area of the wetted, or inundated, channel as visible on aerial photographs plus the area of bare (free of vegetation) sand and gravel bars. The active channel for each aerial photograph series was hand digitized on a computer screen in ArcGIS version 9.2. The 'Mineral Bottom' csv data are river channel cross-sections for a 3-km study reach of the Green River upstream from Mineral Bottom, Utah. The study reach is near the mouth of Hell Roaring Canyon, 5 km upstream from the Mineral Bottom boat ramp, which is 85 km upstream...

This data release presents geologic map data for the bedrock geology of the Durango 1-degree by 2-degree quadrangle. Geologic mapping incorporates new interpretive contributions and compilation from published geologic map data sources primarily ranging from 1:24,000 to 1:50,000 scale. Much of the geology incorporated from published geologic maps is adjusted based on digital elevation model and natural-color image data sources to improve spatial resolution of the data. Spatial adjustments and new interpretations also eliminate mismatches at source map boundaries. This data set represents only the bedrock geology; deposits of unconsolidated, surficial materials that are typically, but not exclusively, Quaternary in...

The erosion and active transport of legacy mine tailings (called “stamp sands”) are impacting native fish species and aquatic habitats on a shallow water rocky reef complex along the Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan called Buffalo Reef. Stamp sands are spreading from an old mill site at the Town of Gay and settling on the reef. Multiple surveys have documented the underwater migration of toxic, metal-rich stamp sands and progressive burial of areas of hard/complex lakefloor, such as cobble fields. The finer-grained, muddy fraction of the mine tailings has been winnowed by waves and currents and transported to unknown locations in deeper waters offshore. High-resolution geophysical mapping of the bay in 2018 revealed...

In 2020, the Alaska Science Center and the Idaho Water Science Center conducted bathymetric surveys at three highway bridge structures. The bridge structures (NBI 331 and 1187) at Flag Point near Cordova, AK are located on Alaska State Route 10 (commonly referred to as the Copper River Highway). Bridge structure NBI 539 on the Knik River is located on the Old Glenn Hwy near Butte, AK. These bathymetry data generally include complete coverage for upstream and downstream channels, except for extreme shallow areas along banks, where structures limited boat access, or where data was removed during post-processing. Bridges 1187, 331, and 539 are scour-critical bridges, and 1187 and 539 are part of the Alaska Science...

To provide daily mean streamflow values at ungaged (partial-record) sites within the Yankee Fork Salmon River watershed, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, used discharge measurements at three partial-record sites and related those measurements to a nearby USGS real-time streamgage (index site). Daily mean streamflow was estimated by developing a regression relationship between each partial-record site and the index site for water years 2012-2019. These data are intended to provide daily mean streamflow estimates at partial-record sites as part of a larger study (Clark and others, 2021) to estimate sediment loading for each site.

The data herein were collected in support of a larger study in Gwinnett County, Georgia, on the potential impacts of on-site waste water treatment (septic systems) on Lake Lanier water quality. Until recently, a missing component in this assessment was the inclusion of historical sediment and associated nutrient accumulation data from the lake to place results in a broader context. To this end, the USGS collected sediment cores from ten locations that varied in water depth as well as proximity to residential areas with septic systems. Samples were collected using either a gravity corer or box corer depending on site conditions. Cores were sub-sampled and processed for laboratory analyses. Laboratory analyses were...
