Album caption. Toe of Fourth Glacier toward the southeast Whiskey Ridge, a truncated spur, exposing (Jurassic) Naknek formation. Stratified pumice in terrace remnant in center of photo appears to match high terrace behind camp. It is plastered against the glacier margin in such a manner as to indicate that there has been no movement of the margin since pumice deposition. Uppermost south-bank tributary of Knife Creek emanating from 3-foot-wide gorge through welded tuff. Note heavy mantle of pumice on the lying glacier. Katmai, Southwest Alaska. Photo taken: 7/6/53. 4 x 5 ¼.

The data consist of counts of sea urchins in quadrats from over 600 nearshore rocky bottom sites that were sampled by scuba between 1987 and 2021. The sites are from 38 locations on the north Pacific Rim ranging from Bering Island, along the Aleutian Island chain and the Alaska Peninsula to Southeast Alaska. At each site, divers counted and collected sea urchins from quadrats placed at random distances mostly along a 20-25-foot depth contour. At a subset of sites, 40-foot depths were targeted. Urchins were counted until either 20 quadrats were sampled or about 200 urchins were collected. Quadrat size is specified in the data table but was 0.25 m2 at almost all sites. At the same sites where urchins were counted,...

Between 1979 and 1982, the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) and the Geophysical Institute, University of Alaska Fairbanks, undertook an assessment of the states geothermal resources under a program jointly sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and the State of Alaska. During this period, reconnaissance investigations of more than 100 thermal spring sites and fumarole fields located in Alaska were conducted by DGGS.

The data table consists of a compilation of sea otter survey results from Bering Island, Russia and select Western Aleutian Islands conducted between 1959 and 2015. The counts were reduced to sea otters per kilometer of coastline for temporal comparability. A correction factor of 3.6 was applied to aerial survey totals to yield results comparable to skiff based surveys. The data table provides the island, year, mode (aerial, skiff, or ground), and shore length covered in each survey. Counts of independent otters and pups are provided if available. Total otters counted or calculated with the correction factor and the calculated linear density are also provided.

This geodatabase contains the official partnership boundaries of the National Fish Habitat Partnership (NFHP). Several boundaries were originally developed by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and were updated in 2013 to reflect revisions from the recognized Fish Habitat Partnerships (FHPs) of the National Fish Habitat Partnership. For the remaining FHPs, the boundaries were developed in 2013 to reflect the boundary as defined by the respective partnerships. The geodatabase contains two feature datasets. The 'Boundaries' feature dataset includes official partnership boundaries. The 'Subregions_States' feature dataset includes partnership boundaries along with state and/or subregion boundaries.

Between 1987 and 2021, over 600 nearshore rocky bottom sites were sampled by scuba at 38 locations on the north Pacific Rim ranging from Bering Island, along the Aleutian Island chain and the Alaska Peninsula to southeast Alaska. Sites were plotted at random from along the coasts of islands or areas designated. Hard substrate was targeted. Most sites were sampled more than once, years or decades apart. Many sites in the western Aleutians were resampled several times as sea otter populations densities changed there. Each site was sampled using 20 quadrats along 20-25-foot depth contour. At a subset of sites, 40-foot depths were sampled. Divers counted kelps but non-motile invertebrates, Desmarestia spp. (acid weed),...

The data consist of counts of kelps and estimated percent cover of fleshy red algae, other benthic algal cover, and non-motile invertebrates in quadrats from over 600 nearshore rocky bottom sites that were sampled by scuba between 1987 and 2021. The sites are from 38 locations on the north Pacific Rim ranging from Bering Island, along the Aleutian Island chain and the Alaska Peninsula to southeast Alaska. At each site, divers counted kelps and estimated percent cover of other algae and encrusting invertebrates in 20 quadrats along 20-25-foot depth contour. At a subset of sites, 40-foot depths were targeted. Quadrat size is specified in the data table but was 0.25 m2 at almost all sites. At the same sites where kelps...
The table presents summary data of sea otter skulls found on carcass searches conducted along stretches of shoreline at islands or locations along a longitudinal span encompassing the sea otter population decline. Numbers of skulls encountered, length of shoreline searched, population density calculated from survey data, as well as skulls per kilometer and per-capita recovery rate are presented. The data are arranged in west to east order from Bering Island to Prince William Sound.

The data consist of test diameters of sea urchins collected from quadrats from over 600 nearshore rocky bottom sites that were sampled by scuba between 1987 and 2021. Collected urchins were measured on the surface with plastic vernier calipers. Quadrat size is specified in...

This .zip file contains four products that will allow users to recreate the analyses and spatial data figures used in Sergeant et al. 2020, A classification of streamflow patterns across the coastal Gulf of Alaska: 1) Autoclass input and output files (provided as folders with multiple simple text files), 2) Classification data (.csv file) for individual watersheds, including Fundamental Daily Streamflow Statistics, landcover variables, and class membership, 3) Esri map package (.mpk file) that will allow users to recreate Figures 3 and 5 using ArcGIS and extract basic watershed-scale data such as watershed ID, drainage area, primary class assignment, and primary class membership probability (for users interested...
