These data consist of larval fish and water profile data collected with a nearshore to offshore transect approach at 9 transects throughout Lake Huron. Larval fish and their stomach contents were identified, enumerated, and measured (if possible) using a dissecting microscope. These data were used to calculate densities of potential fish prey items (what is available in the environment) and compare that to what the fishes ate for selectivity analysis. Larval fish age estimation based on daily growth rings from otoliths was also conducted. These data are in raw form. The water profile data were collected using a bathythermograph and bin-averaged at the 1 m level. Environmental prey data are available at the following...

This dataset includes benthic algae community composition data from three sites in the upper White River Basin, Colorado, in 2022. Benthic algae were identified as genus or species, and biomass and biovolume were provided for taxa.U.S. Geological Survey completed data collection in upper White River Basin in cooperation with the White River Conservation District. Data collection was funded by the U.S. Geological Survey Water Mission Area as part of the Next Generation Water Observing System Upper Colorado River project.

These are genetic data collected from replicated samples of 21 Enteroctopus (E. dofleini or a cryptic lineage) in Prince William Sound Alaska to evaluate tissue type, DNA extraction method, and time until analyses are completed on data reliability. Data collected from all samples include two microsatellites identified as possible lineage indicators, and nine microsatellite loci previously identified as polymorphic in both lineages. DNA sequence data from 528 bp of the octopine dehydrogenase (OCDE) gene were also collected.

This dataset includes benthic algae community composition data in the Colorado River near Cameo, Colorado, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) site number 09095500, from 2022 to 2023, and from three sites in the upper White River Basin, Colorado, in 2022. Taxonomic classification of algae species is not known well in theses rivers, and this study was conducted to record different algae species present in each river system. Benthic algae were typically identified as genus or species, and biomass and biovolume were provided for taxa. The U.S. Geological Survey completed data collection in upper White River Basin in cooperation with the White River Conservation District, and the Colorado River data collection was funded...

These data were collected by the Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center (GCMRC) to support riparian vegetation monitoring along the Colorado River between Glen Canyon Dam and the full pool level of Lake Mead. The objectives of the GCMRC riparian vegetation monitoring program are to annually measure and summarize the status (composition and cover) of native and non-native vascular plant species within the riparian zone of the Colorado River between Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Mead, assess change in the vegetation composition and cover in the riparian zone, as related to geomorphic setting and dam operations, particularly flow regime, and collect data in a manner that can be used by multiple stakeholders and is...

Data are time series of substrate grain size, vertical relief, and measures of abundance (e.g., density, percent cover) of the nearshore subtidal (5-16 m depth) benthic community (vegetation, invertebrates, and fish) collected before (2008-2011), during (2012-2014), and after dam removal (2015-2022).

The widespread distribution of Strophitus undulatus, as well as high intraspecific morphological variation, has led previous authors to doubt the taxon is representative of a single species. Here we provide detailed information for all the freshwater mussels and associated DNA sequence data utilized to test species boundaries in S. undulatus. These molecular data, in combination with morphological data and results from species distribution models, support the recognition of an undescribed freshwater mussel species endemic to streams along the Edwards Plateau in the Colorado River basin in Texas, USA.

The North American freshwater mussel tribe Quadrulini has a suite of life history adaptations, however, the evolution of life histories in this group has yet to be explored using comparative phylogenetic methods. Here we provide the AHE DNA sequence alignment representing 27 species from the subfamily Ambleminae that was used to estimate a phylogenomic reconstruction of Quadrulini. Additionally, we provide a compilation of host use information and larval length and height measurements utilized to trace the evolution of life history characteristics, such as larval morphology and host attraction strategy. Phylogenetic trees are presented representing phylogenetic inference performed under Maximum Likelihood, Maximum...

Fifty-one tidal marsh sites across five regions (sub-embayments) were surveyed in the Delta, Suisun Bay, San Pablo Bay, central San Francisco Bay, and South San Francisco Bay. Vegetation surveys spanned ten years, from July 2008 to January 2018. A total of 5,112 plots were surveyed. Plots were positioned on transects along an elevation gradient and evenly distributed across each site, where possible, to capture spatial variability along elevation and distance gradients. At each plot, percent cover of all plant species, bare ground, and litter as well as average height was visually assessed within a 0.25 m2 quadrat. Total plant cover in a plot could exceed 100 percent due to vegetation layering. Bare ground and litter...
