A vented conductivity, temperature and depth sensor (CTD, InSitu Aqua Troll) was installed at site NR1 (N 47° 04’ 16.1”/W 122° 42’ 15.5”) and continuously measured water temperature, water depth, specific conductance, and salinity at 15-minute intervals from February 11, 2016 to July 18, 2016 (159 days). The sensor was replaced with a vented water-level logger (InSitu Level Troll) on July 19, 2016 and deployed until March 19, 2018 (608 days). The site is tidally influenced and located approximately 4.1 km upstream from the mouth of the Nisqually River and within the tidal prism. From August 2018 to October 2019, the U.S. Geological Survey collected spatially high-resolution water quality data as part of five shoreline synoptic surveys around the perimeters of Owasco, Seneca, and Skaneateles Lakes within the Finger Lakes Region of New York. Water-quality data were collected just below water surface utilizing YSI EXO2 multiparameter sondes and portable nitrate sensors paired with real-time GPS data as part of a HABs monitoring program in the Finger Lakes. The datasets provided here are the input data used to run the Seasonal Kendall Trend (SKT) tests and Weighted Regressions on Time, Discharge, and Season (WRTDS) models. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the National Park Service (NPS) have collaborated on monitoring the chloride flux in the major rivers of Yellowstone National Park by periodically sampling the rivers and analyzing chloride concentrations in discrete water samples since the 1970's. However, restrictions of winter travel, great distances between sites, and sampling and analytical costs have limited collection to approximately 28 samples per site annually. This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release provides vertical water-quality profiles collected at Great Salt Lake, Utah monitoring sites during 1995–2000 and 2011–2022. Data were collected using an In-Situ Multi-Parameter TROLL 9500, In-Situ AquaTROLL 500, In-Situ AquaTROLL 600, or YSI EXO2 Multiparameter Sonde. Recorded parameters include water temperature, specific conductance, dissolved oxygen, pH, and reduction potential. Historic data, 1995–2000, includes hydrometer and refractometer readings.

Transects of near-surface continuous water-quality data and vertical profiles of the same parameters were collected over a 24-hour period from September 7 to September 8, 2023 in the Arthur Kill. The Arthur Kill is a tidal strait located between Staten Island, New York, and Union and Middlesex Counties, New Jersey, and connects Newark Bay to the north and Raritan Bay to the south. It is a major shipping channel for the Port of New York and New Jersey surrounded by industrial and highly developed land. A vented water-level logger was installed at site MC1 (N 47° 05’ 12.2”/W 122° 43’ 36.8”) and continuously measured water depth and temperature at 15-minute intervals from Nov 22, 2016 to Sept 6, 2017 (288 days). This site is tidally influenced and located 1.12 km from the mouth of McAllister Creek. Elevation (NAVD88) of the water surface above the sensor was surveyed by RTN-GPS. The offset to convert all water depth time-series data to water surface elevation (NAVD88) is -1.052 m. Water depth ranged from 0.69 to 4.88 m. Temperature ranged from 2.8 to 22.5 degrees C.

Water-quality monitors were used to measure water temperature, specific conductance, turbidity, pH, chlorophyll, phycocyanin, and dissolved oxygen at fifteen-minute intervals. This dataset includes all continuously measured data collected at two short-term, fixed-site locations as part of a study to evaluate the spatial variability of harmful algal blooms in Milford Lake, Kansas.

In 2016, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), drilled and constructed borehole USGS 144 (433021112552501) for stratigraphic framework analyses and water quality monitoring at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL), located in southeastern Idaho. Discharge and suspended sediment data were collected from October 2016 to Febuary 2017 at the NR0 site. Data was collected immediately down stream of Old Pacific Hwy SE bridge during a bridge measurement and approximately 100 meters below bridge for a boat measurement. Data collection from the bridge has been ongoing since 1968 but data collection from a boat was first attempted October 21, 2016 during this data collection series. Suspended sediment sample and discrete discharge data at this site are available at: https://waterdata.usgs.gov/wa/nwis/inventory/?site_no=12090240&agency_cd=USGS&.
