This data was collected by the US Fish and Wildlife Service to see if environmental DNA (eDNA) varied across pools and within pools in the Illinois River basin. The data was collected in 2015 from three different habitat types: shoreline, main channel, and bays. The resulting data were then analyzed using an occupancy model.
Restoration of the Florida Everglades, a substantial wetland ecosystem within the United States, is one of the largest ongoing restoration projects in the world. Decision-makers and managers within the Everglades ecosystem rely on ecological models forecasting indicator wildlife response to changes in the management of water flows within the system. One such indicator of ecosystem health, the presence of wading bird communities on the landscape, is currently assessed using three species distribution models that assume perfect detection and report output on different scales that are challenging to compare against one another. We sought to use current advancements in species distribution modeling to improve models...

Total Nitrogen (TN) rloadest models were developed to compute TN flux at School Branch at three USGS monitoring stations: School Branch at Maloney Road near Brownsburg, Indiana (03353415); School Branch at CR750N at Brownsburg, Indiana (03353420); and School Branch at Noble Drive at Brownsburg, Indiana (03353430). Frequently, TN models developed in rloadest regress discrete TN concentrations against concurrent daily mean streamflow values. However, due to the flashy nature of streamflows on School Branch, the developed TN models regressed discrete TN concentrations against the closest unit-value (15-minute) streamflows. Once TN flux models were calibrated, unit-value streamflows were used to estimate average TN...

The primary data set consists of continuous water-quality data (temperature, specific conductance, pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, nitrate plus nitrite, and streamflow) from in-situ equipment, and discrete water-quality samples (total nitrogen, total phosphorus, suspended sediment concentration, and suspended sediment sieve diameter) collected during site visits at the USGS streamgage Iroquois River near Foresman, Indiana, April 7, 2015 to July 19, 2018. These continuous and discrete measurements were used to develop a regression model which may be used to compute concentrations and loads of suspended sediment. The secondary data set consists of daily streamflow and daily turbidity values collected continuously...

This data release contains the calibration data set and R code used to create regression models for estimating daily loads of suspended sediment, total nitrogen, and total phosphorus at the Iroquois River near Foresman, Indiana streamgage (05524500). The USGS R software package, rloadest, was used to develop the regression models and estimate loads. The models were developed using discrete water-quality data and concurrent daily streamflow data measured/determined at the streamgage for the period April 2015 through July 2018. Also included in this data release is the input data set of daily streamflow data and the daily load output data sets that were produced by the regression models. Summary information for the...

This data release replicates the methods detailed in the 2017 publication titled "Improving predictions of hydrological low-flow indices in ungaged basins using machine learning" for a different data set. The original data set and the associated readme file for the model archive can be viewed here: https://doi.org/10.5066/F7CR5S4T. The original data set contained streamflow data for sites located in South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama. The data set used in this data release is for 6 states in the Southern Midwest U.S.A. The datafile contains the annual minimum seven-day mean streamflow with an annual exceedance probability of 90% (7Q10) for 173 basins in Arkansas (AR), Iowa (IA), Kansas (KS), Missouri (MO), Nebraska...

The Cape Sable Seaside Sparrow (CSSS; Ammospiza maritima mirabilis) is an endangered species that has experienced population declines of more than 60% since the 1990s. The CSSS is restricted in geographic extent to a relatively small area of remaining marl prairie in the southern Florida Everglades and remains in six subpopulation areas (named A-F). There has been over two decades of field research conducted on the CSSS across its six subpopulations, but a statistically robust analysis of the bird’s demographic parameters utilizing all data has yet to be completed. To address this gap, we conducted demographic analysis of the CSSS population using an integrated population model (IPM). The IPM provides a flexible...

This data release contains values of 29 streamflow statistics computed from modeled and observed daily streamflows from October 1, 1983, through September 30, 2016 at 1,257 streamgages in the 19 study regions defined by Falcone (2011) covering the conterminous United States. The streamflow statistics were computed at GAGES-II non-reference streamgages (Falcone, 2011), determined to be affected by only irrigation or regulation among anthropogenic influences. At each streamgage, statistics were computed from daily streamflow observations, from daily streamflow time series computed using the National Hydrologic Model-Precipitation Runoff Modeling System (NHM-PRMS) model (the “by headwater” and "by observation" calibrations...

Operational ecological forecasting is an emerging field that leverages ecological models in a new, cross-disciplinary way, using a real-time or nearly real-time climate forecast to project near-term ecosystem states. These applications give decision-makers lead time to anticipate and manage state changes that degrade ecosystem functions or directly impact humans. The Everglades Forecasting model (EverForecast) is an operational water stage forecast providing 6-month forecasts of daily projected, spatially continuous stage values across the Water Conservation Areas, Big Cypress National Preserve, Everglades National Park, Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation, and Miccosukee Federal Indian Reservation and Leased...

The PROSPER output rasters represent the estimates of probability of annual streamflow permanence produced by the PRObability of Streamflow PERmanence (PROSPER) model, for years 1989 through 2021, in the upper Missouri River basin and parts of the Great Basin, Upper Colorado River basin, and Pacific Northwest hydrographic regions of the United States. KiteNest is a spatially explicit model of Everglades snail kite (Rostrhamus sociabilis plumbeus) relative nest site selection that quantifies the relationships between a range of environmental factors and nest site selection specific to the southern portion of the species' range. Using hydrologic conditions such as mean 2-week water depth and water depth change rate, days since the last fire, distance to the nearest fire within the last year, and percent canopy cover, KiteNest provides biweekly probabilities of relative snail kite nest site selection on a 400 x 400 m grid. Here we provide the scripts to extract and calculate the model inputs, generate the model, validate the model, and produce predictions of snail...
