The San Juan basin is a significant physical and structural element in the southeastern part of the Colorado Plateau physiographic province. The San Juan basin is in New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, and Utah and has an area of about 21,600 square miles. The basin is about 140 miles wide and about 200 miles long. In the 1980’s and 1990’s, the U.S. Geological Survey's Evolution of Sedimentary Basins—San Juan basin study produced several reports on aspects of the stratigraphy and sedimentology of the basin. A report of the stratigraphy, structure, and paleogeography of Pennsylvanian and Permian rocks included 18 plates of contoured elevation and thickness data for various units (Huffman and Condon, 1993). This digital...

This file contains 18 gross isopach grids that represent true vertical thickness (TVT) values by calculating the difference between 19 stratigraphically adjacent horizons picked on borehole geophysical logs in the Southwestern Wyoming Province. In wells where adjacent horizons are missing, no TVT value is calculated. The TVT values are a measure of vertical thickness and do not account for the structural dip of units encountered in the wellbore. The 19 stratigraphic horizons include: top Almond Formation (base Lewis Shale), top lower Lewis Shale (base Asquith marker), top Asquith marker, top flooding surfaces F1-15, and top Fox Hills Sandstone. For more detailed stratigraphic information, please see the associated...

This file contains 15 net sand isopach grids that represent the summed true vertical thickness (TVT) of sand intervals between 15 stratigraphically adjacent horizons picked on borehole geophysical logs in the Southwestern Wyoming Province. In wells where adjacent horizons are missing, no TVT value is calculated. The TVT values are a measure of vertical thickness and do not account for the structural dip of units encountered in the wellbore. The 15 stratigraphic horizons are the tops of 15 regional flooding surfaces F1-15. Net Sand was determined by normalizing gamma ray logs and using a cut-off of 85 API units and then summing each interval. For more detailed stratigraphic information, please see the associated...

This data release supports the U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigation Map (SIM) by Clark and others (2020) by documenting the data used to create the geologic maps and describes the geologic framework and hydrostratigraphy of the Edwards and Trinity aquifers for a 442 square-mile area in northern Medina County in south Texas. The karstic Edwards and Trinity aquifers that are the subject of the SIM by Clark and others (2020) are classified as major sources of water in south-central Texas by the Texas Water Development Board (George and others, 2011). The geologic framework and hydrostratigraphy of the Edwards and Trinity aquifers largely control groundwater flow paths and storage in northern Medina County...

This data release contains a geospatial database related to a digital 3D geologic framework of the Rio San Jose watershed, New Mexico. The geospatial database contains two main data elements: (1) input data to the 3D framework model; (2) interpolated elevations and thicknesses of stratigraphic units as a cellular array. Input surface and subsurface data for 18 stratigraphic units have been condensed to points that define the elevation of the top of each stratigraphic unit; these point data sets serve as the digital input to the framework model. The point data are derived from geologic maps, cross sections, oil and gas wells, water wells, structure contour maps, and thickness maps. Additional input geologic features...

This digital dataset was created as part of a U.S. Geological Survey study, done in cooperation with the Monterey County Water Resource Agency, to conduct a hydrologic resource assessment and develop an integrated numerical hydrologic model of the hydrologic system of Salinas Valley, CA. As part of this larger study, the USGS developed this digital dataset of geologic data and three-dimensional hydrogeologic framework models, referred to here as the Salinas Valley Geological Framework (SVGF), that define the elevation, thickness, extent, and lithology-based texture variations of nine hydrogeologic units in Salinas Valley, CA. The digital dataset includes a geospatial database that contains two main elements as GIS...
This dataset consists of a raster and surficial shapefiles for the Neversink River watershed, NY, that were generated using ArcGIS Pro's deep learning functionality. The shapefiles contain polygons that show the locations of shallow-to-exposed bedrock and alluvium-filled valleys, while the raster provides estimated minimum sediment thicknesses in the areas between the shallow/exposed bedrock and alluvium-filled valleys. The deep learning model that generated shallow/exposed bedrock and alluvium polygons was trained on existing geologic maps of New York and Pennsylvania. Minimum sediment thicknesses were estimated by applying an inverse distance weighting interpolation to measurements of stream incision depth and...

The Upper Colorado River Basin has a drainage area of about 113,500 square miles in western Colorado, eastern Utah, southwestern Wyoming, northeastern Arizona, and northwestern New Mexico. In the 1980’s and 1990’s, the Upper Colorado River Basin was a study area under of the U.S. Geological Survey's Regional Aquifer-System Analysis (RASA) program (Sun and Johnston, 1994; Sun and Weeks, 1991). The objectives of the RASA program for the Upper Colorado River Basin were to provide regional assessments of major aquifer systems by providing quantitative assessments of the occurrence, movement, and availability of water stored in rock formations that underlie the basin/watershed. These assessments included: (1) the classification...
For use as part of a regional petroleum assessment, the USGS in the early 1990’s developed a dataset reporting elevation on the surface of the Precambrian basement of the central and southern Colorado Plateau and vicinity (Butler, 1991). This dataset was released as paper report that included a table of basement elevations at more than 3,700 control points, including outcrop data of Precambrian rock on the plateau periphery, plus borehole data, seismic data, and depth estimated from a variety of published maps and stratigraphic sections. A contoured map of these data was released as a figure in an interpretive report (Blank and others, 1998). This digital dataset contains spatial datasets corresponding to the elevation...
