This is a report of geochemical data from various media collected on Isle Royale, a large island in northeastern Lake Superior. Isle Royale became a national park in 1940 and was designated as a wilderness area in 1976.USGS sampling began in 1996 as part of a larger project on the Midcontinent Rift in the Lake Superior region. Data are given in nine Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. All the data are newly acquired by the USGS.
![]() New 1:24,000-scale geologic mapping in the Storm King Mountain7.5' quadrangle, in support of the USGS Western Colorado I-70Corridor Cooperative Geologic Mapping Project, provides new dataon the structure on the south margin of the White River upliftand the Grand Hogback and on the nature, history, anddistribution of surficial geologic units.Rocks ranging from Holocene to Proterozoic in age are shown onthe map. The Canyon Creek Conglomerate, a unit presently knownto only occur in this quadrangle, is interpreted to have beendeposited in a very steep sided local basin formed bydissolution of Pennsylvanian evaporite late in Tertiary time.At the top of the Late Cretaceous Williams Fork Formation is aunit of sandstone,...
This data set contains boundaries and tags for major geologic units in Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In addition to the polygons representing the areal extent of geologic units, it identifies major faults and continental glaciation in Alaska. The data depict the geology of the bedrock that lies at or near the land surface, but not the distribution of surficial materials such as soils, alluvium, and glacial deposits. This map complements the Generalized Geologic Map of the Conterminous United States by Reed and Bush. The data are generalized from a compilation prepared for use in the Geologic Map of North America, published as a paper map by the Geological Society of America and...

This report provides detailed (1:63,360-scale) mapping of the Tanana B-1 Quadrangle (250 square miles; equivalent to four 7.5 minute quadrangles). The area is part of the Manley Hot Springs-Tofty mining districts and adjacent to the Rampart mining district to the north of the Tanana A-1 and A-2 Quadrangles. This report includes a derivative map of geologic construction materials based on the resulting geologic maps, field investigations, and laboratory materials analyses.
This geospatially explicit vector-based polygon dataset identifies 85 terrestrial ecological subsection delineations present in Southeast Alaska and the Tongass National Forest. Within each subsection one can expect to find a relatively consistent occurence and distribution of vegetation types. Due to the hydrologically-influenced geomorphology of Southeast Alaska specific key indicators of physiography, lithology, and surface geology were employed to systematically distinguish terrestrial ecosystems.
This report provides detailed (1:63,360-scale) mapping of the Tanana A-1 and A-2 quadrangles (500 square miles; equivalent to eight 7.5-minute quadrangles). The area is part of the Manley Hot Springs-Tofty mining districts and adjacent to the Rampart mining district to the south of the Tanana B-1 Quadrangle. This report includes detailed bedrock, surficial, structural, and stratigraphic data. Based on the resulting geologic maps, field investigations, and laboratory materials analyses, the report also includes derivative maps of geologic construction materials and geologic hazards. The Tanana A-1 and A-2 Quadrangles and surrounding area comprise several isolated mountainous ridges in the western Yukon-Tanana Upland...

Kasatochi is a small, isolated island volcano in the center of the Aleutian Island chain. It consists of a roughly circular cone approximately 3 km in diameter with a lake-filled central crater that is 1.2 km in diameter and extends from the highest point on the island to sea level. The oldest unit recognized is a thick series of mid-Pleistocene glaciovolcanic deposits consisting of autobrecciated lava, lahars, and volumetrically minor lava masses that we believe to have been emplaced underneath a regional ice cap. This unit is unconformably overlain by several massive Holocene lavas, above which lies a thick sequence of latest-Holocene pyroclastic deposits likely deposited during the crater-forming eruption. The...
This surficial-geologic map shows the distribution of unconsolidated deposits and undifferentiated bedrock in the Faith Creek area in the Circle A-4, A-5, B-4, and B-5 quadrangles. This map was prepared principally by the interpretation of 1:63,360-scale, false-color, infrared aerial photographs taken in 1979 and 1981 and is locally verified by ground observations during field work in 2007.
This report provides detailed mapping (1:63,360-scale) in the Dalton Highway area, from Atigun Gorge to Slope Mountain, in the west-central Philip Smith Mountains quadrangle. The map area extends from the northern flank of the Endicott Mountains into the Arctic Foothills province.
Aerial photographs of the coastline from Teller to Nome were collected between August 26, 2015 - August 27, 2015. The photographs were processed using Structure-from-Motion (SfM) photogrammetric techniques. Global Positioning System (GPS) checkpoints were collected via a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) survey conducted between August 15 and September 14, 2015. For the purposes of open access to elevation and orthoimagery datasets in coastal regions of Alaska, this collection is being released as a Raw Data File with an open end-user license. Orthoimages contain 4-band, 8-bit, unsigned raster data (red/green/blue/no data; file format-GeoTIFF; source-Fairbanks Fodar) with 20 cm GSD. No-data values are found...
The State of Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) produced an orthorectified aerial optical image mosaic (orthoimage) and digital surface model over an area extending from milepost (MP) 17 to approximately MP 24.5 on the Alaska State Highway 7 (Haines Highway) north of Haines along the Chilkat River in southeast Alaska. The aerial photogrammetric survey targeted large debris fans and their alpine source areas on the west side of the Takshanuk Mountains in support of cryosphere hazards mapping and monitoring efforts. Aerial photographs and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) data were collected on May 26, 2014, and were processed using Structure-from-Motion (SfM) photogrammetric techniques...
GIS files for the 1:150,000-scale Geologic Map of Gunnison County included in Colorado Geological Survey RS-37 Geology and Mineral Resources of Gunnison County, Colorado.
![]() The geology of the Frederick 30 by 60 minute quadrangle, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia, was mapped on 1:24,000-scale base maps from 1989 to 1994. The geologic data were manually compiled at 1:100,000-scale in 1997 and were digitized and converted to Arc/Info GIS coverages from 1998 to 1999.
This report provides detailed (1:63,360-scale) surficial-geologic mapping in the Dalton Highway area, from the Sagavanirktok to the Itkillik Rivers, in the west-central Philip Smith Mountains quadrangle. The map area extends from the northern flank of the Endicott Mountains into the Arctic Foothills province.

The area is part of the Manley Hot Springs-Tofty mining districts and adjacent to the Rampart mining district to the north of the Tanana A-1 and A-2 Quadrangles. This report includes a derivative map of potential geologic hazards based on the resulting geologic maps, field investigations, and laboratory materials analyses.
Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) has conducted 1:63,360-scale geologic mapping of the Sagavanirktok B-1 Quadrangle (640 square kmequivalent to four 7.5 minute quadrangles). This mapping project reinterprets micropaleontologic correlations for 17 Sagavanirktok Quadrangle wells, and reprocesses data from the one publicly-available seismic line. Surface geologic mapping, subsurface-to-surface stratigraphic age control, and seismic framework are required to reliably decipher the complex geology of this key area of the Brooks Range. Outcrops within the Sagavanirktok B-1 Quadrangle are the closest surface expressions of Prudhoe Bay source and reservoir rocks. This study yields critical petroleum-related...
