New 1:24,000-scale geologic mapping in the Storm King Mountain7.5' quadrangle, in support of the USGS Western Colorado I-70Corridor Cooperative Geologic Mapping Project, provides new dataon the structure on the south margin of the White River upliftand the Grand Hogback and on the nature, history, anddistribution of surficial geologic units.Rocks ranging from Holocene to Proterozoic in age are shown onthe map. The Canyon Creek Conglomerate, a unit presently knownto only occur in this quadrangle, is interpreted to have beendeposited in a very steep sided local basin formed bydissolution of Pennsylvanian evaporite late in Tertiary time.At the top of the Late Cretaceous Williams Fork Formation is aunit of sandstone,...

The Washington DC Area geologic map database (DCDB) provides geologic map information of areas to the NW, W, and SW of Washington, DC to various professionals and private citizens who have uses for geologic data. Digital, geographically referenced, geologic data is more versatile than traditional hard copy maps, and facilitates the examination of relationships between numerous aspects of the geology and other types of data such as: land-use data, vegetation characteristics, surface water flow and chemistry, and various types of remotely sensed images. The DCDB was created by combining Arc/Info coverages, designing a Microsoft (MS) Access database, and populating this database. Proposed improvements to the DCDB include...

This data set maps and describes the geology of the San Bernardino Wash 7.5 minutequadrangle, Riverside County, southern California. The quadrangle, situated inJoshua Tree National Park in the eastern Transverse Ranges physiographic andstructural province, encompasses parts of the northwestern Eagle Mountains,east-central Pinto Basin, and eastern Pinto Mountains. The quadrangle is underlain by a basement terrane comprising metamorphosedProterozoic strata, Mesozoic plutonic rocks, and Jurassic and Mesozoic and (or)Cenozoic hypabyssal dikes. The basement terrane is capped by a widespread Tertiaryerosion surface preserved in remnants in the Pinto and Eagle Mountains and buriedbeneath Cenozoic deposits in Pinto Basin....

This Open-File report is a digital geologic map database. Thisdigital map database is compiled from previously published sourcescombined with some new mapping and modifications in nomenclature. The geologic map database delineates map units that are identifiedby general age and lithology following the stratigraphicnomenclature of the U. S. Geological Survey. For detaileddescriptions of the units, their stratigraphic relations, sourcesof geologic mapping, and data on exploratory wells consult Yerkes(1997), and Yerkes and Showalter (1990).

This digital map database, compiled from previously published and unpublished data, and new mapping by the authors, represents the general distribution of bedrock and surficial deposits in the mapped area. Together with the accompanying text file (cdbegeo.txt or cdbegeo.ps), it provides current information on the geologic structure and stratigraphy of the area covered. The database delineates map units that are identified by general age and lithology following the stratigraphic nomenclature of the U.S. Geological Survey. The scale of the source maps limits the spatial resolution (scale) of the database to 1:24,000 or smaller.

The Palisade 1:24,000 quadrangle is in Mesa County in westernColorado. Because the map area is dominated by various surficialdeposits, the map depicts 22 different Quaternary units. Twoprominent river terraces are present in the quadrangle containinggravels deposited by the Colorado River. The map area containsmany mass movement deposits. Extensive landslide deposits arepresent along the eastern part of the quadrangle. These massivelandslides originate on the flanks of Grand Mesa, in the GreenRiver and Wasatch Formations, and flow west onto the Palisadequadrangle. In addition, large areas of the eastern and southernparts of the map are covered by extensive pediment surfaces. These pediment surfaces are underlain...

The Mound Spring quadrangle, the southwestern-most 7.5'quadrangle of the area of the Las Vegas 1:100,000-scalequadrangle, is entirely within the Pahrump Valley, spanning theNevada/California State line. New geologic mapping of thepredominantly Quaternary materials is combined with new studiesof gravity and geochronology in this quadrangle. Elevenpredominantly fine-grained units are delineated, including playasediment, dune sand, and deposits associated with several cyclesof past groundwater discharge and distal fan sedimentation. These units are intercalated with 5 predominantly coarse-grainedalluvial-fan and wash gravel units mainly derived from the SpringMountains. The gravel units are distinguished on the basis...

This digital dataset, compiled from previously published andunpublished data sources, contains a personal geodatabase andraster data of features related to the repeated inundation of theWillamette Valley and Portland basin by Missoula Flood waters inLate Pleistocene time. The feature classes contained within theWill_Valley geodatabase are called 'erratics', representing thelocations of ice-rafted erratics; 'contours', representinginundation levels associated with stratigraphic evidence ofrepeated floodings; and 'geology', representing the generaldistribution of Missoula Flood deposits. A stand-alone tablewithin the geodatabase contains geologic unit descriptions forthe geology polygons contained in the 'geology'...
