We conducted a radio telemetry study of adult western spadefoots (Spea hammondii) at 2 sites in southern California to characterize their survival, behavior, and movements from breeding through aestivation to inform conservation and management for the species. These data support the following publication: Halstead, B.J., Baumberger, K.L., Backlin, A.R., Kleeman, P.M., Wong, M.N., Gallegos, E.A., Rose, J.P., and Fisher, R.N., 2021. Conservation implications of spatiotemporal variation in the terrestrial ecology of an ephemeral pool-breeding amphibian. The Journal of Wildlife Management.

Data presented are results of surveys in 2021 for San Diego Cactus Wren (Campylorhynchus brunneicapillus) in southern San Diego County. Surveys were conducted at 378 plots. Plots were surveyed twice in 2021 and the number, age (adult or juvenile), banding status (color banded or not), and breeding status (paired, unpaired, or unknown) of all wrens recorded. Habitat covariate data were collected including amount of dead and stressed cactus in the plot, percent cover of bare ground, and the dominant and percent cover of invasive species.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MNDNR) has been quantitatively sampling a mussel bed in West Newton Chute (a side channel in Navigation Pool 5 of the Upper Mississippi River, UMR) annually since 2008. Briefly, ~200 systematically-placed 0.25 m2 quads are sampled annually; divers excavate substrates to a depth of ~15 cm and place material into a 6 mm mesh bag. Mussels are identified to species, aged via external annuli, measured for shell length, and sexed. From 2008-2016, this mussel bed contained 12-16 live species, had densities that ranged from 4-10/m2, and juveniles (≤ 5 years old) comprised 3-18% of the assemblage. Because this assemblage was well characterized, it represented an excellent location...

These data were compiled as part of a larger study to evaluate post-stocking survival of hatchery-reared Roundtail Chub. We conducted a two year study (Dec. 2015 – Mar. 2017) in the upper Verde River at the Burnt Ranch stocking location near Paulden, Arizona. Young of year Roundtail Chub were acquired from the Arizona Research and Conservation Center in Cornville, Arizona. Passive integrated transponder (PIT) tags (BioMark, 12.5 mm 134.2 kHz FDX) were implanted into Roundtail Chub each year (n = 333, Year 1; n = 2177, Year 2) prior to stocking. Each year, fish were measured (total length, TL, mm) before release (reflected in Pre-Stocking data table). We used two methods to recapture stocked fish, one passive and...
Survival, behavior, reproduction, morphometric measurements, and tissue analyses of crayfish, mussels, and fish from acute toxicity tests with pyrethroid pesticides. Exposure and recovery water quality data are also included for quality assurance purposes.
Data were collected in association with the application of two physical barrier treatments, bentonite clay (a sealing agent) and expanding foam (an insulation sealant), in natural pond-burrows to suppress or kill the invasive red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkii). Data include burrow diameter and depth, crayfish sex and size, and determination of the treatment reaching the burrow chamber.
These data were compiled to examine rates of skipped migration in adult humpback chub that spawn in the Little Colorado River (LCR). These data include mark-recapture information from the lower 13.56 kilometers of the LCR and from the Colorado River, from river kilometer 105.5-145.7 downstream of Glen Canyon Dam. Data also include detections from a multiplexer array (MUX) that is located in the LCR and from submersible PIT tag antennas that are deployed in parts of the Colorado River. These data are capture histories that include both spring and fall sampling events that occurred between spring 2009 and spring 2019. Capture histories can include information about size (small adults being 200-249mm total length and...
These data represent capture mark recapture data from toads, and results of testing for Bd (Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis) the pathogen that causes amphibian chytridiomycosis on individuals. The data span from 2004-2016 at three sites in Montana where boreal toads were declining. The data also include temperature measurements at the sites and information on the egg counts and Bd prevalence from Columbia spotted frogs that are co-occurring at one of the sites.

This data set provides biological information from of a captive colony of common vampire bats (wild-caught and born in captivity) that were part of an experimental study on vaccination. It includes results obtained from different assays: RT-PCR, serum neutralization, Rabies direct-fluorescent antibody test, performed periodically during the study (Sep 2018 – May 2020).
These data were compiled to test hypotheses regarding drivers of movement of brown trout. Objectives of our study were to test whether the degree of movement varied in response to placement of a weir in Bright Angel Creek, fall timed flooding events, or simply seasonal changes. These data represent summarized capture histories of brown trout in terms of states based on physical locations, data on removal efforts in Bright Angel Creek, and summaries of effort in the mainstem Colorado River. These data were collected at several locations along the Colorado River in Glen and Grand Canyon, including Bright Angel Creek from 2011 to 2018. These data were collected by U.S. Geological Survey, National Park Service, and...
Physiological and molecular endpoints observed in juvenile largemouth bass in response to an estrogen (17α-ethinylestradiol) and subsequently a bacterial challenge (Edwardsiella piscicida) exposure under laboratory conditions. Also included are water quality and chemical concentration data.
Data presented are results of surveys and monitoring for Southwestern Willow Flycatcher (Empidonax traillii extimus) in San Diego County, California. These data were collected to assess Southwestern Willow Flycatcher abundance and distribution in San Diego County. Surveys were conducted in various years at 33 locations along 10 drainages in San Diego County, including portions of Agua Hedionda Creek, Cottonwood Creek, Escondido Creek, Los Penasquitos Creek, Otay River, San Diego River, San Dieguito River, San Luis Rey River, Sweetwater River, and Tijuana River. From 2016-19, Southwestern Willow Flycatcher territories were monitored at three locations along the upper San Luis Rey River (Cleveland National Forest,...
This data release includes video files and image-processing results used to conduct the analyses of hibernation patterns in groups of bats reported by Hayman et al. (2017), "Long-term video surveillance and automated analyses reveal arousal patterns in groups of hibernating bats.” Thermal-imaging surveillance video cameras were used to observe little brown bats (Myotis lucifugus) in a cave in Virginia and Indiana bats (M. sodalis) in a cave in Indiana during three winters between 2011 and 2014. There are 740 video files used for analysis (‘Analysis videos’), organized into 7 folders by state/site and winter. Total size of the video data set is 14.1 gigabytes. Each video file in this analysis set represents one...

These data represent capture mark recapture data along with associated disease status for boreal toads (Anaxyrus boreas) from Wyoming and Montana from 2004-2016 and four frog species (Rana draytonii, R. muscosa, R. pretiosa, R. sierrae) from 2001-2016.
This dataset describes features of 2941 duck nests that were found in the Prairie Pothole Region of North and South Dakota during 2002-2003. Nest features include estimated initiation date, incubation stage and status as active. The dataset accompanies a scientific journal article describing an evaluation of the density and success of duck nests in conservation fields in 36 study areas that were seeded with native or tame grasses. Field features in this dataset include seeding treatment, planted area, and area of grassland patch.
