These data were collected during a travel time and dissolved oxygen study along a 1-mile reach of the Blue River downstream from 58th Street in Kansas City, Missouri. The study was a cooperative effort between the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Urban Waters Federal Partnership program, and the Kansas City, Missouri, Water Services Department. This is part of a larger USGS effort supporting the Middle Blue River Basin Urban Waters Federal Partnership. This data release contains continuous water-quality measurements (Blue_River_CQWM.csv), rhodamine dye sensor data (Blue_River_dye_profiles.csv), analytical data from synoptic water-quality samples (Blue_River_QWDATA.csv), manual...

These data were collected in support of a multi-agency effort to evaluate the feasibility of using carbon dioxide to create a barrier and prevent upstream passage of invasive fish through navigational locks. The auxiliary lock at Lock and Dam 14 on the Mississippi River near Pleasant Valley, Iowa, was chosen for a field-scale trial of the carbon dioxide barrier to be conducted in 2018. In preparation for this trial, the mixing in the lock chamber during routine operations and the fate and transport of lock water released to the pool downstream was studied using a dye tracer. In June 2017, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) performed two injections of Rhodamine WT dye into the auxiliary lock chamber as the lock was...

A dye tracer study was completed on the lower Sandusky River between July 11-13, 2017, during a confirmed Grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) spawning event. The data contained in this data release include time series of dye concentration at fixed stations downstream of the injection site. Six submersible fluorometers (Turner Designs C3TM fluorometers) were deployed at predetermined stations between 1.19 and 16.05 river miles downstream of the injection point on July 10, 2017, approximately 24 hours prior to the injection. The fluorometers were mounted atop cinder blocks and deployed in approximately 3 to 4 feet of water with good circulation. The instruments were secured to shore using safety lines. The fluorometers...

To support research on dispersion in river channels, a tracer dye experiment was performed on the Kootenai River in northern Idaho, September 25-27, 2017. This data release provides access to hyperspectral image acquired during the experiment and the supporting field-based measurements of reflectance and dye concentration are available through related data releases. The hyperspectral image data were acquired by Quantum Spatial Inc. (QSI) using the ITRES CASI 1500H imaging system deployed from a Cessna Caravan manned aircraft from a flying height of 1000 m above ground level. Initial geometric and radiometric data processing was performed by ITRES and yielded images with 0.5 m pixels for each of 48 spectral bands...

Hyperspectral image data and field measurements of Rhodamine WT dye concentration were obtained during a tracer study conducted at the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology's River Experiment Center May 17-20, 2017, to support research on dispersion in river channels. The image data included in this data release were acquired using a Nano-Hyperspec (Headwall Photonics, Inc.) mounted on an Aerotestra ATNK09, a small multirotor unmanned aircraft system (UAS). The in situ concentration data were collected using electronic fluorometers (YSI 600-OMS sonde with 6130 Rhodamine WT sensor). Image time stamps were used to link concentration time series recorded by the sondes to specific pixels. The...

To support research on dispersion in river channels, a tracer dye experiment was performed on the Kootenai River in northern Idaho, September 25-27, 2017. This data release provides access to digital aerial photography acquired during the experiment and the supporting field-based measurements of reflectance and dye concentration are available through related data releases. The digital aerial photography was acquired by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service using a Phase One iXU180-R mapping camera deployed from a Partenavia manned aircraft from a flying height of approximately 600 m above ground level. The data product included in this release is an orthorectified mosaic in JPEG2000 (*.jp2) format produced from a...

This data set presents results from two groundwater tracing experiments conducted in the mudstone aquifer underlying the former Naval Air Warfare Center (NAWC), West Trenton, NJ. In each test, a bromide solution was introduced into a hydraulically isolated section of borehole 36BR (denoted as 36BR-A); the hydraulically isolated section of the borehole isolated specific bedding plane parting fractures intersecting the borehole 36BR. In the first test, initiated in July 2007, water samples were collected from borehole 15BR; borehole 15BR is outfitted with a submersible pump operating continuously as part of the pump-and-treat operation at the NAWC to prevent off-site migration of groundwater contaminants. In the second...

To support research on dispersion in river channels, a tracer dye experiment was performed on the Kootenai River in northern Idaho, September 25-27, 2017. This data release provides in situ field measurements of Rhodamine WT dye concentration acquired during the experiment. A pulse consisting of 72.57 kg (160 pounds) of KEYACID™ Rhodamine WT dye that was 20% Rhodamine by weight was introduced into the Kootenai River channel from a single release point at the Kootenai Tribal Fish Hatchery over a period of 90 seconds ending at 20:10:40 PDT on 9/26/2017, which is equivalent to 04:10:40 on 9/27/2017 UTC. Information on the timing and location of the dye release is available from the KootenaiDyeReleasePoints.kmz Google...
